I hope you enjoyed this coaching session with Be. We always enjoy working with Be, and she's an incredible climbing coach - we always learn a lot from her sessions and we hope you do. Be sure to let us know if you enjoyed the video, we appreciate your feedback :)
Coach Be is my favourite HMB guest, and you guys have a STACKED guest list for your videos. Learn so much every time she’s on. Had several lightbulb moments with this one 💡 My feet have a tendency to tip inwards, I often need to think about not tilting my pelvis and I think I need to strengthen my traps to be able to activate my shoulders properly. Thank you for this video 🙏🏻 I hope Coach Be comes back for another video soon! 🤞🏻
Yayyyy! Be is a wonderful coach and human and she’s always so good at explaining concepts that seem super complicated in a way that doesn’t feel overwhelming. Really glad you like Be’s coaching sessions on the channel. ☺️💌
I'll second this sentiment - Be always gives me new information that helps to remind me to think intentionally about my climbing & training. What a wonderful coach & human, thank you for this content!
Be really is a wizard with her knowledge and control of the human body, it's like she uncovers some secret wisdom that shows you that your body can do far more than you thought if you use it in the right way
As a physio who's also obsessed with climbing its soo refreshing to see how greatly detailed and informative, but still very understandable and practical Bee's coaching is. Thank you Hannah for the consistent awsome quality content!! ❤ You are lovely!
This video is a winner. Be is such a great teacher, explains clearly, links the steps and more importantly a way we will remember. Feet, hips, shoulders, hands - genial. Everything makes so much sense. Thank you.
Hooray! Coach Be is so fantastic with her, easily understandable, step by step instructions. Straight away I was squatting right along with Nathan and Hannah. I am excited to take these cues to the gym and test myself. Thanks for the great video!
Thank you Coach Be! Vivobarefoot shoes are awesome! I can't recommend them enough. I wear them almost exclusively now and I have felt so much difference in my arches and ankle stability! No more pain!
I don’t think a week goes by when my best climbing buddy and I don’t mention something we learnt from our coached session with Be. She was so much fun and you’d be amazed what she can pick up on and help with so quickly. If you are looking to level up I can very much recommend 💪💪
omg this is so good. Be is just so knowledgeable at bringing everything together. I also thought the chat about vivo was better than a normal ad, it felt authentic.
Glad you thought so! We’re genuinely really excited to be working with Vivo this year and I’m stoked to see how wearing barefoot shoes impacts my climbing. I knew that Be has been a fan for ages and I’ve spoken to so many people who really rate them, so I’m looking forward to enjoying the benefits ☺️✌️
It's so interesting how much of a crossover I'm finding with some weightlifting or calisthenics content (esp squat university) in terms of mind-body connection. For instance: - pushing out the knees in squatting (banded exercises can help with reminding you to do this) - much of the glute/hip stuff reminds me of good deadlift technique - scap retraction before pulling movements is a must
5x right shoulder surgeries over here! So important to use your scraps and strengthen your shoulders. Thank you, Coach Be and Hannah for always pointing these things out and giving treat exercises to keep me climbing at 37 and broken.
When watching the video I was thinking of a specific climb I was struggling with and how to apply the advice from the video. Today I was able to send it!
This is honestly one of the most useful climbing video's I have ever watched! Thank you so much for making it! I'm gonna try out these tips and I'm sure it's gonna help me a lot. I think in certain positions if comes naturally to engage properly, but in others it just doesnt and I end up wondering why I'm so unstable and can't do those types of moves. Like, for me dropknees come naturally, but any dynamic move I just lose all engagement, mainly in the glutes I think 😅
I love this video. Coach B makes everything so clear and easy to understand. I’m so excited to have my lesson with her in May. It’s a 5hr journey from me but it’s amazing to have the opportunity to be coached by such a legend.
The only thing I don't like about this video is that I live in a different country and can't book a coaching session with Be (well, unless I happen to travel to England, but no plans so far!), but this video just highlights how great of a coach she is. Amazing advice that nails the holistic perspective without lacking detail or focus, and highlighting things that often get hidden behind "improving your technique" or similar vague terms. I came home from a long lead + bouldering session two hours ago, and now I just want to go back and run through some of these drills 😂 I really feel like I learned a bunch just from watching this.
Be: 'Where we put really focussed mindful practice is where we make the biggest gains'. Thanks for all the helpful explanations combined with on-the-wall examples.
I've been climbing for almost 8 years yet I still learned a lot by watching this video! This was very instructive and comprehensive coaching, thanks a lot for the video.
Great to hear it! I find I always learn something interesting with Be, and the cool thing about climbing generally is that it’s always teaching me stuff about movement! ☺️
Coach Be is so articulate and poised, Ill always click on her content! 1 year into climbing - sitting around V4-V5. Bought a hang board, but not sure where to start. Any suggestions for programs / people to check out?
Lovely to hear! That’s great progress in a year. We’ve done some beginner protocol for hangboard videos and Emil Abrahamsson / Lattice have some great hangboarding videos that you might find helpful ☺️
15:39 I started climbing 10 months ago, I'm now 50 years old and I've come farther than I ever thought possible. I have learned a lot from you and enjoy learning more. Thank you very much Hanna, Be and Nathan
Great content, thanks. Hannah and Be inspire me. And the outdoor season in the UK started. I must raise my technique to my physical potential. This channel is the right place!
i love when Be comes on the channel, always something new to learn and think about! does she have a bg in physio? because it seems like shes got a great knowledge of the human muscle system.
It's great to see you are working with Vivo! These shoes dosed my feet after I damaged them by wearing climbing shoes much too small. I developed bunions and couldn't walk without pain. Making the switch to barefoot shoes (and wearing toe spreaders) reversed the damage. I don't think this is discussed enough in the climbibg community
That’s so interesting, thanks for sharing. Glad to hear they’ve been helpful for you. It just made sense for us to switch to barefoot shoes considering how much time we spend in tight performance shoes. We’re really psyched to be working with Vivo in 2024 and the ideas for projects we have will make for some fun videos. They’ve definitly a lovely brand to work with so far. 💌🦶
I've seen a lot of Tipps & Tricks or climbing advice videos in RU-vid but this is by far the best one! I'd love to have her as a trainer here in Germany
new things to look at during the climbing sessions 🙃🙂 i'm also wearing vivo barefoot shoes for five years now. it started when i heard about them in the swimrun community :)
Brilliant video. Coach Be is so good at explaining what she means, along with practically showing the results. I'll be trying feet, hips, shoulders, hands on my next visit to the gym. Strangely enough at the other Substation gym. Thanks, Hannah Nathan and Be.
Super informative video as usual thank you! And I love the collab, as I credit wearing only barefoot shoes for my being able to survive all day long multipitch climbs in my fav soft veloce shoes with only minimal foot fatigue.
This looks like it was filmed at the Nottingham Climbing Centre which used to be a swimming pool. Am I right? I've been there once and it's an excellent gym with loads of variety. I must try top roping there next time.
Brilliant. I am new to climbing (literally been to the climbing wall once, partly inspired by this channel to be fair... its your fault Hannah ;) ) and am sure all these great tips are gonna help me train good movement patterns from the start. I have also been wearing barefoot shoes for a while now. So, I have a question about climbing shoes. Does the climbing industry need to catch up to the idea of more functional climbing shoes, or are we all doomed to squish toes (especially my big toe inwards) into climbing shoes built for the climb rather than the feet. Feels counter intuitive to push our feet into a weakened position when, as Be says, the feet are our foundation. I am tempt to try out the Eliot - Barefoot climbing shoes, but fear the dreaded mocking of the noob from those in the know and that at the end of the day, squished feet are in my future. Perhaps a follow up from your rental shoe video, barefoot climbing shoes versus traditional climbing shoes. ;)
I think Nathan would get much lower on the squat if not all the way down if he just took a wider stance and pointed his toes out like Hannah did (but even wider because he’s tall) you can’t maintain balance in narrow pointed forward squat as you eventually hit a hip restriction.
Do you all recommend using Vivo or any barefoot shoe for climbing specifically or everyday walking? I'm new to climbing - I mostly wear Vivos everywhere but I have climbing shoes for climbing.
I use them for everyday wear, and I wear my Mad Rock Drones for climbing! I don’t think there’s many barefoot climbing shoe options, and I find I still need / prefer a traditional climbing shoe for climbing performance. For me the idea with switching to Vivo’s for everyday is to build better strength and mobility in my feet / legs off the wall, which I can then make use of on the wall in regular climbing shoes.
I started wearing barefoot shoes over a year ago. My toes are stronger, my back feels better, my posture is better. The one thing that annoys me is when I go climbing I have cram my toes into the exact opposite of a barefoot shoe and now it is starting to get really painful to go from a wide natural toe splay into tight pointed climbing shoes. Are there any options that bridge this gap?
Not that I know of, unless you purposefully wore your shoes too big, but that’s not ideal! I’ve been seeing barefoot shoes as offsetting performance shoes, and getting those training gains in for my feet when I’m not on the wall! 🦵
I've been wearing barefoot shoes for years but I'm not really convinced by people climbing in those five finger shoes (though I've seen it done). Looking for climbing shoes with a wide toebox helps though - I really enjoy the scarpa veloce! Maybe having a pair of soft wide shoes and another tighter pair for (certain types of) performance? The veloce are great for indoor bouldering especially with volumes, but occasionally I do think I'd go with something else if it's like... An outside edge on a tiny hold. But otherwise I guess there's a bit of a compromise to make.
Hey! We asked Vivo, and I’m afraid the code should work internationally except for Switzerland, Austria and Czech Republic - because these websites are not centrally managed. However - Austria may be changing soon so the discount may be able to work in the near future :)
hate it when physios and coaches shame ppl for having a bad squat when so much of it comes down to your anatomy. Basic biomechanics could tell you that that guy would have a harder time squatting than Hannah just based on his femur length alone..same with ankle mobility. For some ppl no amount of stretching will ever improve ankle mobility.
Looks like the highballer from Rugné. If it is those, they're great, pretty stretchy and soft. A little warm for indoors use for me, at least now that winter is over and things are warming up. 😊
Thank you for this inspiring post! I wonder if giraffe neck and pelvic tilt also describes the optimal posture for optimally loading the footholds and being close to the wall in the overhang BEFORE the climbing move is initiated?
Awesome tutorial, thanks a lot! Is there a reason, why there's no link to her channel in the description? Ah ok, she doesn't really upload a whole lot.. Would be awesome though 🙏 www.youtube.com/@beclimbing-befuller33
Another amazing video with BE thank you so much for this content . As a climber just starting out it definitely feels less daunting trying to figure out how to progress.
