I did this in Uncharted 4, seeing as how in the previous 3 games there were mystical creatures/monsters. I was saving up all my powerful weapons to the point where I was only doing melee only.
In linear single player games - always trying to go in a direction that isn't the obvious direction to progress, in case there's a secret or collectable there... Then getting annoyed when you realise that this is the "right" way to go, and that the "obvious" way was a mislead, so you go back to an earlier save just to check it out in case there was something there...
And it's annoying when you come up to a fork in the road, with no obvious clue as to which path comes to a quick dead end with some collectibles and which one progresses through the level. You just stand there for about 5 minutes deliberating on which way to go.
When you pick up all healing/buffing items and never use them because you want to save for an emergency... and when that emergency comes, even when you're almost dying, you *still* don't use them, because you think you have to save them for an even harder part.
Meh i knew the cutscene so i just went and got a new drink and when i got back... cutscene done :P out of the 6 habbits they said i have like 5 of them :P the only one i dont have is skipping cutscenes. I can skip em if i have seen em before
I read them, too... I think I have spent many dozens of hours (at least) of my 200+ hours in Skyrim reading books. Kolb and the Dragon is my ultimate favourite. I loved choose-your-own-adventure books as a kid. XD
A compulsive habit I had in RPGs, primarily Fallout New Vegas and Skyrim, was hoarding healing items and buff items, and never using them because I was afraid of not having them whilst fighting a particularly difficult group of enemies. But when I DID come across a difficult group, I'd still save them in case it got harder later. And the cycle continued.
Oh that sucks. Ive had to come up with rules to avoid it. Use up the smaller ones first when near death, the large ones when Im down the max they will heal and if it boosts stats temporarily or is used on the enemy then I sell it. All but one for those just in case moments But only after Ive died once trying to do it without healing. "If I hit him and he misses then I can kill him next turn and go to a place to heal without using any items." Not a smart way to play, especially when relying on a crit. Not to mention that it must be a multiple of 10 unless I only have a couple of the item at a time and if I get like 50 of them and havent even touch them I may sell 20, 30 max, dont know when you may need those 20 useless items.
Abeth I wanna say the only game I actually used things in their entirety would be bloodborne. But there's a cap and you NEED them. Every other rpg I play I constantly have shit tons of potions and buffs that just sit. I don't sell them because I swear I'll need them, and when I think I need them, I probably forget and win the fight without using them, so I swear next time I'll use them. It's a never ending cycle of having a ridiculous amount of shit I'll never use. But, ya know, you never know.
man...... I've done this on rpgs as simple as mario and luigi. I keep like 20-30+ of each type of mushroom, syrup, and nut variants. I use them when I take less than 10 health damage after each fight. I've started to try and get into a habit of "if this type of healing item is too small for my current lv/health, then I will either sell off half my stock I collected from drops. That or make sure to have only 5-10 of a small heal item if I feel like they can be used for small bits of damage that can add up with larger types." Though to be fair, this scenario is basically filed with the "hoarding items" entry. The paranoia is real 🤓
+Renan de assis I was so glad they released the whole Nathan drake collection before uncharted 4, I was worried that I'd have to buy a ps3 and get all the games individually
I feel like that should be another entry on the list: Compulsive saving after doing almost anything. Especially on JRPGs, where you'll use every save file you're given, just in case you screwed up and only learned of the screw-up later, so you need to go back three saves just to do something different.
1. Maxing out equipment 2. Talking to every npc 3. Saving at every save point 3.5.creating multiple save files before a game defining moment 4. Having snacks ready for the long sessions 5. Well planned/timed bathroom breaks 6. Kill everything 7. Grind well beyond the minimum level to complete a task.
+Aaron Bullock The story of my gaming life right there... Talking to every NPC in Trails in the Sky (twice, to max out dialog), essentially reading ten novels.. Yea, I did that :/
seven is the story of my gaming life, my god let me tell you when you have grinded so much you can win an unwinnable battle you feel awesome at first but then realization hit me and I layed down and cried about what my life has come to where I can actually do what is supposedly impossible to do god my life is a waste of precious energy I could be working at the job I turned down right now designing and working with high level nuclear fusion reactors with my IQ being higher than Einstein's which was 163, mine is 197 yet I waste away my scientific talent playing games and watching RU-vid
I have the same problem as #4, I just, I *NEED* to watch all the cutscenes for a game that has a valid storyline. I once actually kicked my girlfriend out when I first got Skyrim cause she was talking through something, I don't even remember. Luckily she's a gamer as well, so she understood, so it only took a week of apologetic groveling to fix everything instead of two.
Good thing she groveled for a whole week, not sure why you forgave her before the second week but I am sure you had your reasons to be merciful towards her
Rule number 1: do all side quests before doing the main story mission. Why? ''Some'' games have side quests which automattically fail or dissapear if you do the main story before them... Rule number 2: listen to rule number 1
"Herbs don't go next to the shotgun shells, now do they Leon?" No. Herbs go next to the First-Aid Spray, which goes next to the Pistol, which goes above the Magnum, which goes next to the High-Power Scope and Eggs, but above the Shotgun, which is above the Rifle, which is next to the RPG, which is under the Shotgun shells, which are next to the Rifle Casings, which are under the Magnum Rounds, which are next to the Pistol Rounds, and the Frag, Flash, and Incindary Grenades go in the middle... Do I have a problem?
How about these.... 1. Having to kill every enemy in the level/area. 2. Having to kill every enemy in the level/area in a certain way. I.e. Like stealth kills. 3. Having to out level the enemies before moving on. For example jrpgs like Final fantasy. That way you dominate the enemies rather than just squeak by the next area. 4. Having to redo levels that provide rankings because you didnt get the top rank. 5. Having to get every companion character even of you dont like them or wont ever use them. Example...Mass Effect and Dragon Age.. 6. Using character created weapons or armor even when better options are given to you because...well...i made this...lol. 7. Caring about your looks. For example i could use this helm that has better stats, but i wont because it doesnt go with my outfit. Or having to dye and re-dye your armor for every new piece you get so it all matches. 8. Having to log into online games daily, even those you may no longer play, simply because they offer daily rewards. 9. Watching reviews on games that you already played, just to make sure people agree with you if they are good or bad. Then arguing with them when they don't. 10. Replaying sections or whole games in order to see every choice option played out. just some i can think of atm...lol
my 1st rule for enemy grinding in a more casual playthrough. Make the effort to kill every enemy in the area at least once. If you backtrack or retread old territory then I usually skip all enemies that I don't draw aggro from. Aside from grinding to help prepare for a high-level area, I hope that the designers made at least some effort to make sure that all the first encounters in an area are enough to get past that section. If I have to purposely grind through an area more than once, that's a big hindrance on my choice of a repeated playthroughs. Good thing new game plus is a thing for some games. As much as I enjoyed xenoblade chronicles, I don't think I'll be doing a lv1 restart for a long time. My first playthrough took up 150+ hrs alone and I haven't even grinded out all the party affinity links.
Number 10 takes from the enjoyment of your choices, my 10th is do the same choices every time you play the game unless you're playing with a different character alignment. All the others are almsot a depiction of myselk but I like to rally the companions.
Leave a few drawers unopened you say? So you can go behind me and get all the sweet sweet loot?!? Never! Its mine, mine, all mine. Get your own potion of minor health, tankard, leather bracers, 4 carrots and sweet roll.
I don't care if I'm wearing Diamond Bracers of Invulnerability, carrying 1000's of food items, and maxed full-heal potions... I will sell those leather bracers for 2 gold because I used my time to walk into that random house's bedroom, and I'm not gonna leave with nothing!!!😅
Skyla Gaming This is me in FFXIII. I MUST max all the roles for all 6 characters even if they are characters I never use or roles I never use for that character. Takes a helluva lot of grinding on Gran Pulse to achieve that.
What about the leveling system? Any game that has experience points and level-ups, I HAVE to make sure ALL my characters/equipment/whatever are at MAXIMUM level before the final area, if not sooner!
Vgamer311 No, I said I was having a bad time, also, I get as far as is possible, no more (but if getting to level 544 takes 6 games plus...well...maybe....one day...)
+ApexCactus well op went out of his way to specify max level before reaching the final area. Six Ng cycles to level up to max isn't all that unusual, farming for days or even weeks on end to max out a character before the end of the game is.
Lt. Basil sorry you are a completionist. Welcome to the club and please stay after the meeting for cookies. The cookies will be made by whoever actually finishes Witcher 3 with all side quests and DLC.
about cutscenes, there was one time i read the subtitle but forgot it instantly and i had to go to youtube and watch walktrough to see what those stupid three words were...
6:58 Me: "I don't want to skip" 7:06 Me: "Still not skipping" 7:27 Me: "No matter how much you tell me to skip, I'm not skipping" 7:35 Me: "Because it makes me feel good!" 7:54 Me: "Don't care, I'm not stopping" 8:40 Me: "It's okay"
I compulsively always use the lowest tier of ammunition I have so that I am always full on the high tier ammunition... I finish most games never having used any weapon except my pistol.
Rian Cox This is me in Skyrim with my arrows. Except for a few exceptionally hard mobs or mini bosses I'm trying to sneak skill I rarely progress beyond iron and forsworn arrows. I use the weak ones because what if I need all my several hundred daedric arrows for something?
There's a sane part of me that tells me, when I pick up a new game, to just stumble through the main story first and see if I actually like it enough to dedicate myself to hammering away at all of its secrets. That part of me dozes off when I pause two minutes into the game to read all the non-hidden trophy descriptions.
so this habit is not really about completion but I also CAN'T be rude to characters in RPG's especially in bioware games ...I wanna do jerk playthroughs but I just can't do it, it breaks my heart and I've got almost all of the habits you mentioned except for not being able to skip cutscenes. I like replaying games and I just don't wanna watch long cutscenes that aren't THAT interesting
I do the same.. It's sooo hard for me to do. I mean I can do a few renegade responses in mass effect 2 because they're badass.. but I can't be a real jerk
Same here. I've never managed an evil playthrough , it's just not for me. Especially those quests given out by orphans, beggars, children etc these are always the first quests I do.
I wanted to try playing as a vampire in Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, but the first time I was supposed to take an immoral action, I realized that I just wasted an hour building my character because I just... couldn't... DO it!
You say nothing happens, but then reward us with such fantastic content such as, "WHY ARE YOU STILL WATCHING THIS"... This is our reward for going along with the spirit of the video.
+Talon Marshall I know it's not the same thing, but Alduin in Skyrim. It even says you can search him but can you? No. Every playthrough of Skyrim I try to loot Alduin, just out of some habit of searching *everything* and I relive this over and over.
my obsession in open world games like fallout and the elder scrolls is having to have a certain drawer or chest for different items. it saps hours of my life making sure that ever support item is in one chest alphabetically catorgorized of course and weapons in another armor somewhere else etc. and when Skye in allowed you to build your own house(s) my eye starting twitching with how long it'd take me to build every house, every upgrade and figure out a way to separate all my items amongst every house evenly and with purpose.
+Ted Mitchell I still feel the same about Virtua Quest for Gamecube. I did every mission, went to every location, and no matter what I still can't obtain this one model to get 100%.
+Ted Mitchell Why is that? Did the developers pulled a jerk move and only allowed a 97% completion ratio, or is the game victim of some sort of game breaking bug that prevents players to achieve a 100% completion rate?
+rcollpc I watched knowing that it would be pointless but with just the tiniest doubt that there would some small thing in it to make it worth while (like a picture of a hamster holding a flower or something).
Alexander Robertson Those loyality missions in Mass Effect 2 are side missions, you don't need to do then to complete the game. I guess they aren't important at all. Probably equally not important in Mass Effect 3. And I wouldn't consider doing any side quests in Borderlands or any Elder Scrolls game because, as we know, you can totally beat the game doing nothing but the main quest and not getting cool weapons or anything like that. Probably should avoid any mission that involves getting any weapon unless it's in the main quest. And those side missions in Fallout 3 and New Vegas? Pointless. I don't know why the game even has ending slides that mention them. They're totally irrelevant. Also I was being sarcastic because I like completing all the side quests I can before moving on in the main plot. I know sarcasm can be hard to read in text but maybe not everyone is being serious when they type.
+JackieGoOutside This is why we really need a sarcasm font, we have to make do with a (!) at the end of something that's supposed to be sarcastic, which is why I always assume they're being serious if that's not after it. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Scrolling through one's entire inventory to remove every "New" icon from your items even if it takes you an hour and you immediately sell the vast majority of said items
+Tenace Fleur Dark Souls 2 has the Curved Nil Greatsword thats scale the damage based on the number of playthroughs completed, the max scale bonus is on NG+9... CHALLENGE ACCEPTED
+Diego Lopes getting platinum achievements in DS1 means you have to go to NG++, same goes for DS2 if you can only play offline... well if that's what it takes, I WILL do it!
The "no cutscene skip" thing happens every tie I start a new file on a game. Like if I've just died and have just seen the cutscene I'll skip it, but if it's a new playthrough? Nope, gotta watch it through at least the first time again. Dangit, me. This is why you will never speedrun.
I was just thinking about that because I do the same thing, and considering that I restart games I've already played with great frequency...... it happens alot
I left a dragon corpse in Skyrim because the loot of those lizards is too damn heavy. I felt betrayed when I couldn't find the damn dragon corpse again. Yes, I shouldn't have looted random clothing and equipment that, at best, will sell for a bit of silver, but can you blame me? I HAD to loot everything.
You can make your companion pick up things you can't carry! She has unlimited strength, and can carry everything, unless it was patched. You just have to drop them and tell that bitch to pick them up!!!
Companions don't have infinite carry capacity either... ._. My hoarding knows no bounds. I'm also the kind of person who needs a house full of chests to store everything. It probably takes longer to sort everything than it would to search for stuff if I ever do take something out of them again. =^-^=
+PlayStation Access He means the cast & crew, where you are the cast and the crew is the hundreds of people doing the work behind camera. Poor old sod doesn't understand that there is no crew.
***** was just kidding. lots of channels will do "face reveals" once they hit a certain milestone, but obviously we already know what you look like. :)
I have all these problems, (and therefore a serious backlog) but I could never skip a cutscene. I know ppl who skip them the 1st time round, and to me that's absolutely insane!
I do number 6 ALL THE TIME in Borderlands. After defeating a boss with tons of stuff on the floor, or finding chests (which will most likely contain ammo) i loot every single one. I will check every single weapon those bosses drop to see if theyre useful. God, its an awful habit really
+GenericRU-vidNameHD In Skyrim I have the same problem. What's worse is that when you mouse over a chest, urn, or whatever, it tells you if it is empty or not. I will still open it even if it says empty. You know, because maybe this time it won't Really be empty. It gets really bad in large treasure rooms, because you don't remember what boxes have already been checked and had only junk, and which is that mystical box I somehow missed. (I know I didn't miss that box. I clear rooms in a compulsively ordered manner specifically to avoid this. Doesn't matter though, I don't remember what junk was still there.)
Welp, I'm glad I am not the only one. But here's another that's exclusive to Dynasty Warrior-like game: anyone else needs to defeat every officer, capture EVERY camp, and annihilate every speck of red dot BEFORE finishing one match?
Because dragon bones are pretty rare and useful, if you know how to use them. You say "Well, I don't need this now... But I COULD need this one day!" And before you know it you're over-encumbered with 800 pounds of dragon remains. =)
Having stupidly annoying forced Multiplayer Trophies in Games where they shut down the Servers or nobody plays anymore..or where they're a huge grindfest. not allowing me to get Platin.. uugh. Am i the only one?
I think that has defined some game purchases for me, like TOMB RAIDER DEFINITIVE EDITION, which I really want to play -_- it's what my guest profile is for ;)
Kit411230 If you think that's bad.. then just look at the "Dosvidania Petrovic" Trophy/Achievment.. this is literally impossible. Or these.. 20k Kills in Resistance. I hate developers for that so much..
+Kitty Cat 1,000 TIMES THIS!!! Multiplayer trophies SHOULD NOT be required to get Platinum. In fact, they should be separated from the single player trophies. I'll never be able to Platinum AC Brotherhood!
number 6 is me on dragons dogma. i cant leave a battle with the same 4 goblins without picking up every scrap of iron, goblin horn and woodworm sap despite being level 70 and not even once having to use goblin horns.
It's a curse. I will never stop taking everything and searching everywhere. I will never skip cutscenes. Considering how big the map of FFXV is going to be, I'm going to be playing that for a LONG time.
I was quite pleasantly surprised to see Dark Chronicle here. And yes, I do relate to filling up the maps on that game, even though those places are usually randomly generated.
I don't have the habit, NORMALLY, with restarting if it's not perfect. Until i get to Fire Emblem. I will spend hours on a level and then someone dies and i'm seriously staring there debating on do i restart? do i go on? do i just give up and cry on the floor?
That's kinda like me when it comes to leveling up my characters in either of the etrian odyssey untold games, that's why I always play on picnic.. judge me all you want but if I finish a battle and just ONE of my characters are dead.. (mainly with bosses) I almost HAVE to restart,no way am I going to continue and have 1,2,3 maybe even 4 characters one level below the 5th... however in the cases I can't avoid it, I'll spend time purposely leveling up my underleveled characters with the overleveled ones dead just so I can equal out their experience....
... Or rather that's what I want to do... I end up just sucking it up and dealing with it haha Though.. I do it in a way at the start of both etrian odyssey untold games, making absolutely certain that my first character(s) are level 4 before fighting a certain boss monster, that way when the rest of the characters join the party(they join at lvl 5 after the battle, well in EOU1 anyway.. in EO2U they join at the start of the battle so I make sure the original characters are lvl 5 instead) the experience matches up so everyone's the same level. Sorry,That was a pretty long reply....
Yes all 6! But I can go one further, I MUST have the subtitles on, I can't let it past me if I miss some detail because of volume issues, or maybe radio chatter being converted to text so clearly for me... must have!
In my defense - the "doing all sidequests" thing came from certain sidequests vanishing after you progress with the story and damaging your endgame. "oh, you wanted the best end? Should have saved that little girl in a sidequest that only showed before main quest phase 3" "The best weapon? oh, sorry you needed an item that only appeared in a alternate map during sidequest X that you can't do anymore"
I like compulsively click on the analog sticks over and over lol. It's like I do it once and it's not right for some reason. So then I have to click them in over and over lol. What's wrong with me?
+Crimson Gamer I have stuff like that, too. Not just in gaming, but in other aspects of my life. Like, winking or blinking my eyes, or drumming my fingers.
+Crimson Gamer i know its bad for the controller but you know how the ps2/ps3 controller joysticks can be pulled out a bit? yeah i keep pulling them out and clicking them back in
I didn't understand why he was saying its a chore to sit through that scene. That's hands down one of my favorite cutscenes that doesn't include Raiden. The sheer awe I felt when I realized how fucked and powerless I was to stop Liquid-Ocelot was just perfect.
I agree with point 4 here. IT BUGS ME TO HELL when anyone I game with skips the story scenes and then wonders where they're supposed to go, when 97.19% of the time they'll TELL YOU in the cutscene where to go next!
I’m currently playing Kingdom Hearts 3 and I can’t help but to swing my keyblade at every barrel, box, plant to get the money or whatever item they have; or pick up every damn ingredient on the way even though I can simply buy them from the moogle.
you mean they must be rotated upright? when I first read your comment I pictured people placing games in the cases backwards and thought "who would do that" I think I know what you mean now I never had a Playstation but my cousin had one till it broke then he replaced it and when the replacement broke he finally got a PS1. his consoles always had shorter lives because he does not take care of his things whenever I was visiting I would go through his entertainment center putting all games back into their cases because I couldn't stand to watch them get stepped on, or even see them in the wrong case.
I can definitely relate with needing to complete the maps in games. Completing the maps in Star Ocean was a pet peeve of mine. I'd skirt the edge of the map and wander back and forth across the open spaces to get every little pixel of that map and then figure out I was missing 0.1% somewhere and start all over again.
My one is to just 100% absolutely everything but I have to collect everything before the final mission so I collect them in sequential order so if there's 160 collectibles and 17 missions, that's 16 collectibles every mission excluding the final mission. It gets confusing when the collectibles are not very divisible, it turns out like 5 collectibles every mission until mission 46, then 6 collectibles onwards or some bullshit like that. I do it for GTA, it's difficult to get the formula for every single collectible or side mission together, but it'll be worth it when it's all done.
I also have to play all the first games in the franchise before the new one. Will I ever play Fallout 4? No, I haven't played 1, 2, 3, and New Vegas yet
+TheJudefam Wow dude, that's so ME :D Worse is I actually have to REPLAY the prequels when a new one comes, just to make sure I have a fresh memory about everything the franchise can offer, so I won't miss even the slightest reference.
+Josh Null Since when do you have to play Any FF game to be able to play another FF game lol? It's not a branching storyline dude it's just the name of the franchise :P
#1....I do this. Damn you Star Ocean for rewarding my compulsive need to complete maps... You're making my problem worse.... #2....I do this too. And I buy houses in Oblivion just to stash my extra useless rubbish. Because I can't carry everything. I am also a real-life pack-rat. So this is just an extension of my real life compulsion really.... #3...Yep. This is me. Sidequest hell sucks me in like a quagmire.... #4 ....This is also true of me.To the point that it always bothers the hell out of me when I watch other people play games and they skip cutscenes... I'M MISSING PARTS OF THE STORY DON'T YOU DARE SKIP GOD DAMN YOU!!!! #5 ...Oh god, do I do this.... Yes, this is me. This is so me. #6 ....Yep. Definite yep. I do this. Conclusion....I am a completionist. Oddly enough, this does not interfere with my enjoyment of gaming. Doing all of these things makes me happy. That's why I do them. If they did not make me happy I would not do them. That is my logic.
When you said the thing about having the discs the right way up in the case, I do exactly the same thing, yes I have OCD! :) And I'm with you on the cutscene one as well.
i relate a LOT to number 5 as a DMC player i NEED these SSS ranks. especially in Hell and Hell mode "oh you did take one single hit and died because of it? well screw you, here is your C rank. now go and play on human little nooby" NO i WONT do that D:< *sigh* ooook i will just restart the whole level in the end i got them but JESUS i hatet myself for it
What about not using healing items or stuff like that because "They might be more useful later on" , and then end up finishing the game without using any at all.. Lol
+AxelTheHBK _I am not alone!!!_ I'm in a Fallout 3 playthrough right now with over 400 stimpaks on me. If I get hurt in combat I will warp home and hit my med table, or find a mattress to crash on nearby.
