Even though it's touted as minecraft's least useful item time and time again, I believe it is one of the most underrated items. honestly yea, they could just copy the rails and cart linking system from railcraft that has it perfect, and its incredibly vanilla feeling, especialy the earlier versions then add a linesman villager and a special crafting block for minecarts and minecart accessories

You can make a “mob train” with minecarts placed on activator rails! Stoic Epich and GruvaGuy have great videos on how to build them! Movement speed of 40 blocks per second for you mob farms! I use the design on my fortress farm and gold farm.

Furnace minecarts would be so useful if they added functionality for chains where you could couple minecarts together and have the furnace minecart basically pull a train of loaded chestcarts back up to the surface

That would be so cool, people would talk about doing that back when they were added, but we were all so excited with stuff like technic that we forgot about it. I would love a vanilla+ beta mod that added this it would be very inline with the vision of Minecraft back in 2010

I never understood why they just didn't add a simple joining mechanism for minecarts. Guess ill just have to keep playing traincraft to get that experience...

Older versions of Minecraft they'd automatically "join" in that if they separated going downhill they'd keep going the same way and the furnace cart would catch up to the other and begin pushing it normally again. At some point they must have changed it because I tried doing it the old fashioned way when I didn't have redstone yet and it didn't work like it used to back in 2011. You could chain carts together and just had to increase the number of furnace carts in the back for more power.

Because Mojang are lazy and don't want to actually develop anything that would actually be useful and impact gameplay. They have to keep adding super rare mobs that drop super rare items that are useless.

Easy solution to their uselessness would be either just reverse the ride direction when fueling them (0:31) so that you can get yourself pushed while sitting in another one or add the chain connection functionality (2:44) and most importantly, make them refuellable with hoppers and dispensers.

Yeah. Chain connection would be huge imo. The ability to combine chest minecarts and move tons of cargo with it would increase it's usefulness a lot. Making the furnaces refuellable would make it way more convenient too. I think they should also make rails cheaper, powered ones especially, to actually make it affordable. Now if they could add a way to let them go way faster they could be pretty useful in some situations imo.

They should just make Furnace Minecarts made out of Blast Furnace by default instead. It fits better aesthetically, gives more use to Blast Furnace and makes sense for their new speed without having to have a redundant and slower Furnace Minecart.

Furnace minecarts are the backbone of my heavy freight transport systems on vanilla, tend to run one unpowered line for freight and one powered line for passenger. If you push the carts instead of pull them then you can have insanely long trains too

The first ever minecart track I built used furnace minecarts over powered rails because I found the idea of having a proper engine much more appealing and aesthetically pleasing than powered rails.

I loved the furnace minecart. Although somewhat useless I still liked using it to transport minecarts with chest as if it were one big freight train.

Would be amazing if they could: - Be connected - Refueled with hoppers - Load chunks. Doesnt make any sense to use minecarts in late game as you prob need a longer distance travel. Imagine Minecarts could Load single chunks they enter and unload them after like 5 seconds. Cant imagine the lag to be that bad. Especially since its a non player thing. Prob could load the chunk differently without textures for example idk - Reverse direction Just imagine the insane logistics people could come up with to supply all their bases

Would be nice if the furnace minecart had it's own GUI like the furnace, let's you stock up on the fuel reserves without needing to spam click the fuel on the minecart furnace just to fuel it up.

That's one of the reasons why I enjoy the create mod. It has some "upgrades" for Minecarts, one of them being minecart links for easily linking multiple carts together. It's a cheaper alternative for trains early game.

If they added the ability to manually connect minecarts in such a way that they don’t break, furnace minecarts would actually be really good for transporting mobs. The issue right now is that you need a completely straight, flat rail because they break on slopes and turns and the way you connect them by… walking into them… is very clunky

It's possible to make furnace minecart change direction horizontally without breaking other minecart chains behind it. it needs some space and blocks at specific spot to make it work. I can't explain it from here but need a small delay like 45* each twice instead of instant 90* turning, 2 blocks for each 45* turning, the rest are free space. Sadly, it doesn't work when minecart moving upward or downward, or at least that's all I got.

I totally understand what you mean - I didn't include it in the video because it's a deep rabbit hole and it wouldn't fit the theme of what I was going for, but there are so many wacky ways people have come up with to get around the turning & uphill/downhill issues. Like, complex redstone beyond my understanding haha. kind of funny we have to do things like that just to get a simple feature to work, and it's also kind of incredible that we're able to fix stuff using other features in the game.

Remember using the furnace minecart once in my entire Minecraft life, when I was building my nether ice highway I needed a makeshift way of transportation while it wasn't done, and that was the furnace minecarts

I don’t know what i’m doing wrong, but after having created all the necessary components for a Furnace Cart, my crafting table Will Not Display the option to craft it in survival mode. I can make all the other cart options: Chest cart, Hopper cart, or TNT cart… but not the furnace cart. Why?🙁 Edit: Made this comment while the video was playing. Got my answer at the End of the video, after submitting comment. No reply necessary 😅 Very Bummed out. I’m a new player and i wanted to created a world for another friend, came up with idea to use the makeshift-train to lead them to a new house i built for them, and then i discover this inconvenience.

When I tested out furnace minecarts, mine was able to travel over 1500 blocks on a single piece of coal (I then got bored and didn't check how much farther it could go). I also found that right clicking the furnace minecart while it's stopped, but still producing smoke, allows it to start moving again in the direction you clicked.

5:53 funny thing about this, I'm pretty sure there is a real thing in some trainyards called a "hump" that is literally used for sorting cars like this.

i used them, in combination with chest minecarts to transport stuff to my base. before there were powered rails, furnance minecarts were the only way to get minecarts uphill.

If you could link them with chains they'd become very useful items. Full 30 carrage minecarts with chest for freight trains between your base and mineing/storage hubs or having mass transit for your freinds to travel around. Very useful

I used them when I was short on gold/redstone and still wanted to build long railway. For this one reason I think they should stay - cheap but inconvenient way to power minecarts.

Although I don't use furnace minecarts I've never thought they were useless sure their not useful for many things but for specific designs or looks they have their niche and that's honestly all it needs. Hey your friend needs resources but is in a mineshaft and you don't wanna go down there place a minecart chest and a furnace in the back. She'll keep it going until stopped and when it isn't needed anymore just send it back up.

in modded minecraft furnace minecarts are made very relevant even into the late game because with Railcraft you can link them and with Create you can link them and build tunnel boring machines with them. The fact that Mojang hasn't let you link minecarts at all is really short sighted and it makes me wonder how they use minecarts if at all.

They weren't useless when the were first added, because they were added before powered rails. Without sprint, a furnace minecart was the fastest way around.

there's a mod called rail craft, that basically is a mine cart and rails update if you leave out the factory component to the mod, it feels incredibly vanilla (I would actually go looking for a rail type only to forget that it was a mod feature, not a vanilla one) Probably because it's been in development for over a decade now seriously beautiful mod, with a lot of love and work put into it over the years

Another way I could see it being useful is; in One-Chunk Challenges, if you want to bring Mobs up the Chunk, make a 3x3 Railing system then use a Furnace Minecraft at the bottom, you won't have to bother relocating your Villagers in such an annoying fashion anymore.

Here is my opinion a running furnace Minecart should chunk load a 3*3 area of chunks with that stoping when it runs out of fuel. Also have different fuels effect both time snd speed of the cart

What if you had a furnace minecart with a hopper minecart filled with coal at the back or front of the furnace minecart? Will it transfer the coal into the furnace minecart?

I'm intending to build some mining railways in my world. My intention is to put filled shulker boxes into a chest cart and send it to a shulker unloader, where it just drops the shulkers into a chest and returns, allowing me to get back to mining. I may had to rig up a system where a chest cart full of empty shulker boxes will come to my location whenever one goes to the unloader. That's going to require some means of filtering empty boxes back to a chest cart, though. If anyone knows of a way to automatically sort the boxes back to a chest cart, let me know.

Cammies minecart tweaks improves furnace minecarts by allowing you to use chains as coupling and allowing for more fuels some making minecarts way faster and this mod is server side

you can put a number of chest minecarts infront of a furnace minecart and while its not pretty, it can move all the chests at maybe just below or at walking speed after accounting for the jank collisions. this sounds bad unless you play versions without shulkers or have enough chests or enough lined up in a row that the speed isnt the issue, its the throughput. modern mc makes them (pretty much) useless older or legacy versions they have very limited but good uses

I love them for sending packages without requiring vast amounts of powered rails. They weren’t added to Bedrock which has me upset.

I am low key upset that they got rid of the furnace cart. I remember when they got rid of it in bedrock. I actually used them. I wish it would come back, in a better version. Not to mention they SLOWED the minecarts when converting Xbox one to bedrock. I have a huge rail transportation system. I hate how they removed an item 1% of the player base use. I want a rail update.

This is a seriously underrated block. You can use it for a survival train glitch that allows for massive railways without a huge gold ingot outlay. Good for linking distant outposts in your world (maybe you have a badlands biome at x = 156,000 like me and want to get your terracotta back in one journey. 😊

They are not useless at all… with an iron farm and Bambo rails are free and with stacked mine carts you can go indefinitely and the furnace will bump start you and goes for awhile for a second bump if you become unconnected
