This crossing took a lot longer than I expected when I was becalmed for the first few days and then had to claw my way upwind for the rest of the passage.

I think the boat you found interesting at 0:40 is a project from Brazilian sailor Amir Klink, who crossed the Atlantic Ocean in a rowboat in the 80s. His boat is called Paratii 2 (I don’t know why it doesn’t have it’s name on the hull)

I've been an armchair Sailer with your soothing yet not so smoorh travels on the SEA. Im so content that i can feel my " Viking " Norwegian Ancestors in my blood, So happy being on the OCEAN With you Sam. I always wanted to buy a sailboat. My Cousin's have them. My Dad being from Minnesota always owned a fishing boat. He moved to Calif. To be with the great Pacific. I was raised on it. Miss it since he passed. We rented a sail in Ixtapa, Mexico, two novice girls, and the waves were brutal. My butt was sore for the rest of the week at Club Med. But best memory tacking the sail and almost falling overboard. Now im back on it with you. The Ports of Call, Long Beach...and now the WORLD 🌎 GRATEFUL i found these videos. Fulfill an empty spot. May All your Travels be Blessed. ⛵

Been on a boat across the bay of Biscay. It was one rough passage in really big seas. It was an ocean liner and their were waves crashing over the bow. I was awed but I loved it being 11 years old. Went out onto a few of the higher decks. It was awesome. Not so sure I would like to be on a small boat in those conditions but experienced similar sailing between the North and Sould Islands of New Zealand on a ferry.

A trick i did with a leaking hatch was to put a heavy canvas cover with lead in the bottom seem that would roll out of the way when not in use , Iven put a clear port in it so i could see out as removing the hatch , Solid dodger was going to be a biggy , lasted for 7 years = Dry boats are nice boats , Glad you didn't run into those orcas , Got sunk in the Tasman sea from one many years ago on a little 36 ft. schooner - 'The Red McGregor" on a delivery trip to Sydney .

Just curious, how much would it cost, how many gallons of gas, to just motor from France to Spain? 😊
@stephenburnage7687
@stephenburnage7687 Год назад
Boats measure fuel economy in gallons (or litres) per hour. My small boat consumes 1/2 gallon per hour (if I don't push it hard). If Pickle Herring can travel at 5 kts, motoring, that would be 60 hours or 30 gallons to cover 300 miles. However, that doesn't work if you have a counter current (ie you can burn fuel standing syill) but the bigger question for a boat like this is fuel tank capacity, which might be less than 30 gallons Bigger boats have bigger fuel tanks but burn more fuel, so 300 to 500 miles is a typical maximum motoring range of a sailing boat, encouraging one to sail as much as possible.
