Narrowboat Cruising & Lifestyle . . . Must be nice to get away from the hectic and demanding world we have to live and work in and be at one with nature, the waterways and above all a better and slower pace of life. @@markrutter5996 Thanks Mark, we can all do it. Unfortunately a lot of people trap themselves in their minds, and how they have been programmed to think from a child! I started to think outside the box a while back! It has taken me a while to get here! And living like this wont be everyone's cup of tea, but it sure beats what I was doing for nearly fifty years before!
@markrutter5996

Narrowboat Cruising & Lifestyle . . . Yes it seems like we are all pre- programmed to run run along a set of tracks which is supposed to be the normal for all of us but it is a huge move to switch off that program and change direction after 50 years especially. At my age of 56 I am starting to think about how quick life in general passes by and leaving things too late to change but after watching lots of vlogs and especially yours it certainly inspires you to re-think your direction and travelling at 4 mph on the waterways is something that is starting to grab my attention.It seems you are adapting to your new direction very well.

Back in the day my elder brother built 12 karts for John Bloom Rolls Washing Machine Co. The salesmen had a kart club and would hire Rye House every other Sunday, one of the artic trailers had been turned into a garage and club house, it was brothers job to keep them racing. The salesmen drove Austin vans and sold the washers straight out of the van, cold calling at peoples front door.

Did the mechanic tell you where the water in diesel comes from. One it's from running with low fuel level in the tank, condensation forms in the empty part of the tank, this is compounded by warm diesel being returned to the tank from the injection pump. The surface between diesel and water a bug grows, now on gentle cruises this is not a problem, but get some rough water and it stirs up into a goo that blocks filters and can ruin the injector pump. lots of boats find out about this when the enter the Thames at Lime House and encounter the trips boats etc. and the wakes etc. Yes I talk with experience. The other cause is boat yard have the same problem with there tanks, but selling the contaminated diesel onto you to sort out. I fitted an extra filter system with a pump and two truck size filters, I would circulate the diesel from the tank outlet and drop it back into the tank at the top, this stirs the goo up and the filters removed it, all done on the mooring. Having twin tanks to pump from one to another cleaning it on the way is the best way. There is a fluid you can add to the tank, but the best prevention is to keep the tanks as full as possible all the time. Especially on extended moorings, get a couple of 5 gal containers for this.
@NarrowboatCruisingLifestyle
@NarrowboatCruisingLifestyle 4 года назад
You certainly know what you're talking about! The tank was two thirds full before I filled it up, this must have stirred it up as I had the engine running whilst they was doing it. I think this must have been when the water got into the engine. As it conked out about 400 yards away from where I filled up! Also Aitch was on an extended mooring when I bought him a couple of months ago!
@NarrowboatCruisingLifestyle
@NarrowboatCruisingLifestyle 4 года назад
I will certainly take your advice on the 5 gallon containers, great idea!
@metalsnapper6728
@metalsnapper6728 4 года назад
Narrowboat Cruising & Lifestyle, Hi ya. Also worth getting some diesel biocide like Fuelset or Marine 16. Add this to your diesel as this will prevent the dreaded diesel bug from the condensation which could potentially build up in the winter months. This along with keeping the tank topped right up will prevent condensation and diesel bug. You really, really don’t want diesel bug....that is just a whole world of hurt.
