Nice to see the full interview but also sad. this was during the period in and around 1974 when Burton’s drinking and health were at its worst to date. It’s very easy to tell he’s a few bottles into his day by the time he gave this interview. It doesn’t change the fact, however, that Burton was one of the few if not the greatest actor of his generation. He could be a very complicated man and was driven by his demons but was also the greatest stage and film presence i’ve ever seen. He will always be the greatest actor in my book. RIP Rich. You’re coming up on your 100th birthday next year and a movie entitled ‘Mr Burton’ about his young days with Phillip Burton will be released next November 2025 to coincide with what would have been Burton’s 100th birthday. They just wrapped production last week (9/2024).

Thank you so much, this is very good news! 🥰 A small segment of this interview was edited out because it was blocked, but it is on YT (Richard Burton reciting "I am, You are...) - the video is called "The Greatest Poem in English Literature", I believe.

You're very welcome! Strangely enough, a short clip had to be edited out, because it was blocked worldwide.

Vittorio Di sico actually died that year in 1974 of lung cancer. Burton was most popular in war movies and period dramas. Later in 74 he played Winston Churchill in The Gathering Storm . The Robe was the number one movie at the USA box office in 1953. These Barry Norman Film xx episodes should be available on BBC iplayer in full or something like that . They are practically film historical documents of their time.

Yes, just like The David Frost Show (no episode of TDFS is available except 2 or 3 recorded by fans... but the eps exist).

Rich has on his Welsh red and a little boozy. So hot! You can tell he did indeed love language--he spoke several of them. His German on The Dick Cavitt Show was great, as is his Italian, apparently.
