1. They start the day right. 2. They control time. 3. They build in buffer time. 4. They deal with procrastination. 5. They get stuff off their plate. 6. They work less to achieve more. It feels like many of the habits here deal with how to use your time much more than how to actually go about and do things. This goes to show how important and valuable time is!

I'm a big believer that the way you start your day, is how you finish it. If you want to be productive the whole day, do productive stuff in the morning.

Batching work and morning routines have been my two biggest productivity hacks. Thanks for the advice! I talk about a lot of this stuff on my channel too
@dannyboycinco

So true. I used to batch entire days to try and write music, but I never got anything done, I felt uninspired and my anxiety would creep in and overwhelm me. I started to do a daily 2hr mandatory music making time in the morning and no more, and now my creativity has skyrocketed and I'm always surprised at what I come up with in that short amount of time. It also gets me excited for the next day to do it all over again because I only have 2 hrs to do it!

@@victoriabarclay3556 I still do it and I'm still getting great results! I've also recently read DEEP WORK by Cal Newport and this also confirms this theory of batching short chunks of time with deep focus

I build in buffer time between every task I do. And, I do "nothing" proactively during those "margins" -- or, as I call them, layers of Bubble Wrap! (I mean, who doesn't love bubble wrap, right?) The purpose of the buffers are to close up one thing, and give yourself the time to get your mind into the proper place for the next thing. Using them to accomplish anything else destroys them. If you do a task during a buffer, you turn that time from buffer to another task, with no buffer before or after. If I have a bid appointment to give a yardwork quote at 10am, I will leave my house at 9am, giving myself time to get stuck in traffic, or be detoured by an accident. I can get to almost any bid in 15 minutes, but that gives me time to, in a relaxed manner, drive around the neighborhood to get an idea of its economic potential. Then, I will find a place to park and wait. I look around at the sky, the trees, I listen to the sounds of nature. I just maintain a very calm, very focused perspective on the task ahead. This is the purpose of the Bubble Wrap. My theories allow me to build a business in a relaxed atmosphere without any risk at all. Risk Free Stress Free Business!

Why is sleeping in considered lazy but going to bed early not? What if I go to bed at 2am but I am highly productive between the hours of 8PM and 1AM?
@Nighthawk5015
@Nighthawk5015 Год назад
Because your don't fit in with what society expects. Lazy bum at night is for sleeping not doing things. Just kidding if it's not obvious, but yes it's all about societal norms.

One of my tasks has been to put this channel as a weekly "to-do" for motivation & positivity in tough times. (I'm a business owner whose industry has tanked for now). I was happy to see I do some of these things, but have epic fail in others- so it helps to have your road map. During the pandemic, I've needed more "escape" time than usual, but I know I can pare that back. I started timing my tasks without even knowing that's a thing! Love this episode, really helpful.

What does "batch tasks" mean please?
@rebeccasperring1747
@rebeccasperring1747 4 года назад
It means grouping similar tasks together, like if you have 3 phone calls to make, you can group them together and this will take less time because you're not running from say, shopping, a meeting or distracting yourself while trying to do something complex like a report. You can also group other tasks together, like spending 2 hours in town to get all your errands done for the week rather than making several trips. Hope this helps!

Then again Elon Musk and Steve Jobs are known for making unrealistic goal dates for release of products or development. That isn’t “buffer time” or accounting for the unexpected. And before someone replies with “well they set those dates as goals and anticipate they’ll never actually meet that” both Apple and Tesla have almost went bankrupt, cutting product release dates close to deadlines.

Work for yourself. Don't keep a job longer than you absolutely need. Don't go into debt for that bright shiny object, new car, new house, 4 wheelers, snowmobiles, or general credit card debt. If you have to have debt you probably don't need it. This includes overpriced but useless education, high maintenance spouse or fiance, or fancy clothes. If she arrives with debt that means she will always believe in debt and you will be shackled to that job you hate just to make her happy. Better wait until you are settled, in your own business, to get married.
