Here's my advice as someone that's studied what works very extensively and applied this as well. Be sure to show appreciation for what they do for you. For example, it could just be an occasional hug, gift or thank you. If they do the same for you it will create a nice virtuous cycle. Never blame your partner for a problem. For example, if they seem lazy don't see them as the problem but rather what's causing them to be lazy as the problem. They could be depressed, burnt out, or even sick. Talk to them about it. Things like that are partly why communication is so important. Remember you chose this person go through the journey of life with you; treat them like the most important person in the world because that's what they are. If they do the same for you then I think you'll be pretty happy.
