It could have been much worse. The containment held up in spite of the winds. There was no way to save those old structures. They are basically big piles of kindling.
@BenjaminEsposti
@BenjaminEsposti 5 лет назад
Yeah especially not having fire breaks in those old buildings, and with a common attic space, they go up in quick succession once the fire gets inside the structure voids (walls, ceilings, etc).

Gather round boys we're going to have a party. We were after 1 but got two, but then we got three, but then we got four but then we got five and then we got six. How many fire companies, how many firemen, how many dispatchers giving instructions. If the homes had been yours I bet they would have been saved. I've never seen so many firemen standing around doing nothing - perhaps they were not being given direction from their commands? One of the comments said the houses were so old they were like tinderboxes and would burn like kindling - I contradict that comment because the fire departments were not quick enough to respond with multiple alarms and then the men had no direction. Pity the poor people who lost everything not the firemen standing around.

Why is it that a pass alarm is sounding yet nobody reacts?? Every pass alarm should be addressed immediately we can’t let ourselves become deaf to such a vital part of a firefighters life line. Otherwise good job for what you had to deal with

Here where I live they tore down the old post WW2 duplex public housing & put up east coast style row houses on the same footprint. Good idea until 1 of them catches on fire. 3x more people & cars on same footprint making access hard . One fire started in a living room occupied by former Mung tribesmen who had turned it into a common area open flame cooking pit.

It's row housing, sometimes called townhouses. It's cheaper to build because there is less siding and roof covering each unit and it uses less land.

I could be wrong but that fire looks like it started from a Natural Gas explosion which could be either caused by a gas leak or surge or over pressurization in the Gas Line pipeline or there was a similar incident in Massachusetts a couple months ago stuff like this terrifies me and my wife be cause we have Natural Gas in our apt building in Brewer, Maine

Title of this video, "6 Homes destroyed in massive fire" is totally misleading. Yes, the original room fire did become a massive fire which eventually consummed 6 residences. But the real title should have read, "6 Homes Lost In Fire Due To the Confused, Unprofessional and Poorly Trained Volunteer Firefighters," who responded to the emergency call, Period !!! This fire cannot be blamed nor should its destruction be used as an excuse for the non professionalism of its local FD's officers and firefighters, when in reality, the fire only did what fires are allowed to do by firefighters who are not professional at their job. The video was well filmed as to the fire's confligration , unfortunately, it exposed the fallacy of proper firefighting knowledge and compentcy supposedly held by the local Volunteer Fire Department's membership. Inasmuch, requesting additional mutual aid apparatus and manpower is only helpful if the responding officers and firefighters are competently and sufficiently trained in the actual profession of firefighting. The above is the direct, logical and sane reason why there should be absolutely {NO} VFD's in the United States, (i.e.) Firefighting is a "Profession" the same as a doctor, lawyer, pilot etc. etc. etc. it is not simply a partime job on a volunteer basis that can be properly performed by any Tom, Dick, Harry nor Jane who thinks that being a volunteer may bring some excitement in their lives. Firefighting is a "Profession" which requires the abnormal mental and physical ability to do that which 99.9% of average people cannot proficiently do.
@Blitz350
@Blitz350 5 лет назад
This fire was well advanced and blowing into the street before anyone called 911. The FD arrived on scene to find 4 homes fully involved auto-exposing to the adjacent properties and stopped the fire from progressing beyond the 6 already involved addresses. Delayed reporting by the public does not constitute a poor response on the part of the fire department.

Apparently there was an inadequate water supply, and it was windy, but your comments are true for many volly dept's in PA. Dispatch was saying 14:52 which is a busy time and no one noticed the fire until it was massive? A chief on the roof with a pike pole? That's common too no real command structure. I don't know if it's lack of training, or nobody really cares b/c they are volunteer. When I was a volly on Long Island, NY in a small town we emulated FDNY. We trained our butts off. Fire school 1 & 2, EMT training. It was a second job. But we were proud, professional volunteers. Any volly dep't anywhere can find a dep't to learn from, and look up to. - If they want to.
