0:00 - Intro
Musician & songwriter Ayla Tesler-Mabe shares her six favorite Hendrix chords in-depth, including different variations and root movements.
0:42 - E7#9
A classic Hendrix chord is found in songs like "Purple Haze."
2:33 - A Major
A new take on an otherwise known classic A major chord.
4:28 - G# m7
Ayla describes this chord as a chord that "defines the sound of the 60's". A beautiful chord that's in songs like "Angel."
7:12 - Asus2
This is a great chord to add more color and flavor to a regular open A major chord.
8:28 - A7sus2
A cool way to play a dominant 7 sus 2 chord where you can move it up and down the fretboard (almost) chromatically.
10:15 - A/C#
This last chord appears in songs like "Wait Until Tomorrow," specifically in the intro. The chord sounds great with hammer-ons and moved two frets down.
About Ayla Tesler-Mabe:
Ayla has been making waves in the world of guitar playing as a professional guitarist, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and composer, since the early age of 14. After only been playing for two years, her first RU-vid video (a rendition of John Mayall’s “Hideaway”) put her on the map and kickstarted her music career. She has since been featured in Rolling Stone magazine, become a member of the Ernie Ball and Fender family of artists, and earned various Berklee College of Music scholarships. Musically, Ayla finds great pleasure in exploring the numerous avenues available to her through various styles of music, as seen through her work with Calpurnia and Ludic.

I think about this all the time, he was a mad scientist in the guitar and music world. Jonny Greenwood, Dimebag Darrell, SRV, and EVH were and have been extremely groundbreaking and inventive to technique and sound, but nobody changed as much as Jimi, and that was without much in effects and recording technology. Jonny (and Radiohead in general) is the only one who really comes close.

@@davidclark625 Absolutely. Most of my favorites were influenced by him, what would they be without? And I think it's easy now for us to forget how much genius went into innovation back then, with no Internet. You essentially did need to think it up originally.

Hi amazing lesson. Those are some great chords. I wrote them all down. Your a great player of Hendrix. If he were here I think he might say, dial back the reverb. Just a bit. Dont saturate your beautiful playing with effects. Use them "conservatively." Thanx for the lesson!

Thanks . It's good to see young people acknowledge Jimi. I first heard of him on a bus to my tenth grade class. I picked up the guitar at that point and never took formal lessons. You are great on guitar. I think Hendrix would be honored that you have such an appreciation for his playing. I love what you are doing. I was in tenth grade in 1971.

Thank you for sharing these videos and no ads I appreciate it. I like to learn all different kinds of music and try to incorporate it into one of my songs somehow but I need to get with it again it's a giant stress reliever music can heal your soul. Personally the best musicians I know where I live they don't play this song exactly they always change something and they do it on purpose to give it a little of their own personality. I don't think anybody plays the song exactly the same every time do they? The best musicians where I live they have good days and bad days also but if you didn't know music you'd never noticed they missed a note or two or something they just keep going and that's really hard to do
