I'm going month 4 on my FT6 Pro's and love them. Only getting better. Been playing with the STEP Blacksteel, Bladetech DLC, and Flare Blades. Flare by far favourite but love the other two as well. All different feels!

I appreciate the insight but want to hear comparisons between customs, not comparing the custom to the stock. How does the different manufacturing hold up compared to True’s hand-made process? What happened to your Trues Tommy? The CCMs are more expensive but are they worth the extra money or is it just the name? Can’t wait for Chris’ video!

Can tell you myself how good the quality of the ccm custom plus is, fit like fluffy socks so many options to pick from, like boot height, cut, stiffness, liner, foam, added padding, 11 tongues if I remember right plus more. For the extra money they blow true out the water. First time in years I’ve not had foot pain coming off the ice from random sticky out bones etc

I'd love to see a custom vs custom. Seems like that would probably be True vs CCM. I haven't seen you guys talk about custom Bauer skates... but maybe I missed that. I have an older pair True Customs, and when I put those on the first time it was mind blowing how well they fit compared to my ancient Graf's. But since then they've softened up a bit.. I just don't know when it's worth the ridiculous price tag.

I couldn’t agree with Tommy more, I’m skating atleast 12 hours a week on top of playing high level hockey been playing 13 years. was changing skates at start of every season due to soft boot, got my ccm custom plus skates about a month ago and omg the best purchase I’ve made! the fit it unreal, first time in 5 years I’ve not had any foot pain coming off the ice, they fit like fluffy socks no issues whatsoever. I also got stiffened forefoot and eyelets and you can defo tell the difference to retail it’s great

Hello, this video and a lot of your other videos mention baking skates for a better fit. Can you please do a video (or at least comment here) with your recommended process to bake skates at home? I know that True Hockey did a video on how to do this at home but I cannot find anything related to CCM or Bauer skates. I think the process for non-carbon fiber skates must be different. Thank you. Tom

Pretty normal for players on the ice 4/5 times a week doing training and games every weekend. You should see how quickly some NHL players go through retail skates. It’s not exactly something manufacturers want to share all the time

Completely unrelated question, for anyone who wants to pipe in: I just got a pair of Vapor X4s, long time inline roller hockey player, first time in ice skates in years. I've skated them once, public session at my local rink. They fit just absolutely perfectly, my foot didn't move a fraction of an inch in an hour of skating, but circulation was fine, no hotspots, etc. I weigh 190 to 200 lbs, so I thought a slightly less aggressive sharpen would be good, so I went 5/8". The runners they came with are have a 10' radius - which I believe is pretty aggressive. Will I likely need a grippier sharpen to compensate for the relatively small area of contact with the ice? I'm going to put in a good few hours before I change anything up, but any thoughts on the situation? Thanks in advance.

The best sharpen for you depends on your weight, your skating style (speed, agility, stopping etc) and your skating ability. Heavier weight, shallower sharpen. Better edge control, shallower hollow. I have very good edge control, I weigh under 12 stones, and I can handle a shallow hollow. I’m on a 1”. As you are new to ice, and not light, I would have thought 5/8” would be fine. Hockey stops are harder on a deeper hollow, and skating is more tiring as the blades dig in deeper to the ice. That’s why I go shallow.

@@StillAliveAndKicking_ That's about 165 lbs, right? Wow. Skate shops would probably give you 1/2" by default, right?Thanks for the input. I have 2 sets of blades, so I'm going to experiment with one and leave the other as is.
@joeschmo2693
@joeschmo2693 7 месяцев назад
@@StillAliveAndKicking_ You mention edge control. That's my biggest issue coming from inline. On inline, most of your control is just body english, so to speak. That's the biggest difference - ice skates are crazy sensitive to foot position and weight distribution. I've been doing edge drills, or trying, and I do fine with inside edge work, but outside edges are harder. What you're saying is that you can handle the 1" sharpen because of your skill and experience, right? In other words, a 1/2" sharpen might make it easier for me to find my outside edges, but also make it harder to learn to stop.
@StillAliveAndKicking_
@StillAliveAndKicking_ 7 месяцев назад
@@joeschmo2693 Yes, about 165 pounds, fairly light. Yup, 1/2” was on my new skates when I bought them. I tried 5/8”, 3/4” and 1” and preferred 1”. I have a Sparx so it’s easy for me to change hollow.
@StillAliveAndKicking_
@StillAliveAndKicking_ 7 месяцев назад
@@joeschmo2693 Exactly, I have very good edge control, and 1” is great. Yes, you might need 1/2” or 5/8” but it will be harder to learn to hockey stop on a deeper hollow. Inline and ice are very similar but stopping is easier on ice. Yes outside edges are harder to learn, but if you’re a decent inline skater, it won’t be so hard. Best use skateboard pads in general skating sessions when practicing.

Donut foam around the ankle bones - interesting! I have several "donut footsies" made marketed by Powerslide for inline skating - they help me to skate a few kilometers more without pain. Comfy, snug fit, better power transfer. 😃🤩

I wish the ft6 pro skate was just blacked out at retail…the red just doesn’t go good with a lot of uni’s out there. If that red was blacked out I would have copped a pair, but I went with Machs instead. Also when I tried the ft6 pro’s on I could feel where the toe cap connects with the rest of the boot, like I could feel it almost pinching on the outside of my big toe and pinky toe.

I’ve moved from the FT4 Pro and FT1 to then AS-V Pro the the same reason Tommy was saying, about skates going soft. He’s right about how the boot likes to cave in on those more explosive moves… I like the stiffness of the ASV pro, which is retained

I went through all the reviews on RU-vid about this skates and they looked perfect, so I bought them (luckily for 1/3 of the full price). Yesterday I've took them to hockey training for first time and I felt really terrible. They are heavy as hell, at least my feelings was like that. Training before I was in my Grafs PK7900P and I've felt as bird. And I was not even able to do turns properly - skates was just sharpened, not profiled (my friend forgot on me), maybe that's why, but my non-profiled Bauers are pretty OK. I would like to hear if someone of you guys had same feeling as me. Let see after blade profiling. By the way, here are weights of all my skates w/o blades (Bauer Supreme M4 size 10 Fit 2 - 750g, Graf PeakSpeed 7900P size 10,5 R - 714g, CCM JetSpeed FT6 Pro size 10 R - 895g).

I had Bauer customs, they cost me most of a grand. Then I moved to True TF9 at a fraction of the price and the improvement in my edgework was night and day. A grand for a pair of skates is a huge sum of money, and customs don’t have a 30 day return warranty. Plus not many shops in the UK do CCM. Puckstop are now Bauer only, HockeyStation have limited stock, The Ice Barn are True only.
