Same here. Matt, I'm a 66 year old woman who was never taught about wood working or power tools. But during the past year, while watching your videos, I've started becoming comfortable using power tools for small projects of my own. I'm making a pallet wall for my kitchen, and then a wishing well to cover an unsightly old brown-shingled "doghouse" which is covering a cistern that by law can no longer be used. After that, who knows what I'll create. Lol.

Love the positivity in your vids, and enjoyed meeting you at WBC. One thing I will say about the Giant Jenga is that I was asked to build a set for someone, with a rolling case. While the material is not expensive at all and it is an easy build, I found that I needed to asked over $100. Actually a good bit more. The reason was it took a long time as there is a ton of sanding. I did run my 2x4's through my planer but I still had to sand all 6 sides of each block as well as chamfer all 12 edges of each block. Maybe I didn't think a good way to do it so for me I actually decided unless for a good friend I was retiring from the giant jenga market.

For those candle holders when doing the faces, I’d make some precut stiff foam shapes vs stencilling. Dab the foam in the paint, blip blap bloop… done! Faces painted in 3 seconds instead of 5 minutes of stencilling and painting.

One up your big jenga. Laser 9 different images on the top side of all the pieces. 9x6=54. Top side so you can’t see when stacked. Create an adult list or kids list of actions corresponding to each image. A fun rule is to reverse the order. Another great one is the person has to pick from the 5th row or lower their next turn. Be creative. Adds a ton of fun.

Love the stacking wall wooden game idea. We have the plastic version from Dollarama. Never thought of taking that idea and making out of wood. It would be easy to save time and cut costs by recycling old Jenga blocks or buying cheap ones at the dollar store, and just building the frame to hold them in place.

You can reuse the same block for the giant jenga than the wall, but adding to the jenga set some block 1/2 the lenght. I made a giant jenga...I could not wait to be done routing the edge and the sanding !!! then the finishing...56 blocks...112 ends to finish....a lot of sanding/finishing. I will add some 1/2 block to my set to be able to use as a jenga or wall.

The stacking wood game rminds me of that old "Don't Break the Ice" game with the little plastic people that you would stand on top from the 70s and 80s. This game could be called, "Breakout", also from the video game of the 80s.

The curved front cabinet could be painted black & white (one curve black and the other white) to make a Yin & Yang version. It goes with the curves. First rule of fight club, is don't talk about fight club..... One mod to the game would be to make a thin cover that could be locked down over the blocks in place for transport and storage, put a handle on the top to lift and carry, release the locks at the bottom and it's all there and ready. A 1/4" plywood with finger jointed edges would be perfect (especially if someone had a laser to cut the thin plywood).

How would one market stuff on FB? I've got what I want to sell, I have many pictures and a decent description with a reasonable price i think, I'd barely be making $10 off it. It's been sitting on the market for about 2 weeks and only 11 people have even seen it in a local group of 20-30k people. I would rather ship it so I don't have to wait for people to come around and it's a flat rate of $8 within about 100 miles but I'm thinking that's the issue. I'm new to this and I'm doing it on my own so I don't really have anyone's input. Sorry for the paragraph, just need someone's thoughts. Please and thank you.
@dian3145
@dian3145 Год назад
First, let’s talk about your price. Unless you made and photographed that in 1/2 hr, you are not charging enough! A super low price will make it look cheap. There are a lot of videos about pricing woodwork. The main issue for Etsy is that everyone tries to be the cheapest, and it makes it hard for everyone to make a good living ☺ Facebook is great, but you have to work what FB is all about. Have your friends share your posts. Join community groups that your product would appeal to, ie: local moms groups if you make toys, hiking groups if you make walking sticks. Best of luck on your journey!,
