Their explanation likely doesn't apply to maps that old nor does the embellishment idea. The most likely explanation is that the island either collapsed and/or the marking of it on the map is incorrect as the video doesn't mention the fact that there is a smaller island around 100 miles away that wasn't listed on maps until around 100 years ago.

If you can't write a title without a superlative like "most", it gets to be pretty sensational. E.G. A canceled bridge project isn't mysterious or disturbing. In the end I do like the videos though, as they give a shoutout to other cool scary yt channels.

Travis Walton and his crew almost certainly made that story up. They had a tree clearing contract with the Forrest Service to clear an area of old growth and were behind schedule. Rather than be found "at fault" for failing to meet the contract deadline they fabricated the incident to get out of the contract. I think they used alien abduction because it can't be proven or disproven, unlike faking an accident or injury, so they couldn't be charged with fraud. If you listen to Walton talk about his story, he's very evasive about details and tries to steer interviews away from the incident. It's very suspicious.
