As a medical student who loves watching lots of med ed videos on RU-vid, I found this video very insightful! It's been 4 years since my med school interviews but I still found this video really helpful, especially now that I'm starting clinical placements. Your channel deserves much more attention! I've been recommending it to students I'm helping with their application to medical school as the value you provide is immense. Thank you so much!
And after you get a place Hot Topics include: - nhs racism - the truth about the GMC - why whistleblowers are silenced - the buyout of the nhs by the US - what is burnout - how will the nhs look after me, or make me sick? - whu junior doctors are leaving
thank you so much for this video! i love how concisely you explain all of these hot topics, as well as what the NHS and govt are currently implementing to aide these crises, it all really lends itself to an amazing interview answer! will definitely be recommending to all of my friends as we all have interviews coming up! thank you :)
thank you Doctor Ollie for the very in depth explanations on each o the topics and i found this video to be super helpful ! would love to see similar content in the near future from you as i have a few interviews coming up :)
Thank you doctor , please keep updating these hot topics as my interview is next year but I am watching these video right now and will wait for your new videos .
Very nice video and clear explanation and disclaimer within the video that this is not a hit piece, but I think potentially a less incendiary title might sound a little better.
Thank you so much for your videos! I have an interview coming up and I am basically binge watching your videos currently. Also how on earth do you have only 3.2k subscribers?! Your content quality is amazing!
Me too, prep for interview brought this up my feed. This guy is very knowledgeable, articulate and a good storyteller. Thanks very much. Will subscribe
thats why the philippines is able to at least get by! quality nurses are trained for very cheap in the Philippines and exported to the US and Europe, allowing us to get a lot of money returns!
Thank you so much for these videos they're so helpful for upcoming interviews! Are they likely to ask us questions directly about the last 4 topics or is it more for us to drop in our answers?
Although they're not as recent as the first two, I do think they could come up. Especially something like the Francis Report considering how wide its impact was. But I think I'd agree with you that you'd be unlikely to get a direct question on one of them out of the blue but would be great to sprinkle into your answers.
@@drollieThank you :) Quick question....in the mmi (specifically Leicester) is it just a singular question/scenario/task for the one station that you have to talk about for 5 or 6 minutes or are there several questions like a follow up so your answers should only be 1-2 mins long?
@@maiyasandhu6979 oh hey! (also applying to leic.!) generally there is two to four follow up questions! Best advice I've heard was be as concise as possible while getting as much detail in - don't cut your answer short on purpose but try not to ramble and you can always go back to questions if you have time at the end! best of luck :D
When was this film made?! Harold Shipman (arrested 1998!) but no mention of Letby?! Weak conclusions e.g, reference to Francis Report but omitted to mention that it brought about Duty of Candour legislation. Ethics cases can be highly complex and contentious as shown in the Charlie Gard case (and many others - see for example Ashya King) Better to refer applicants to 'GMC in Action: GMC Guidance Brought to Life' which features worked examples of ethical cases. Also 'BMA Core Ethics Guidance' is being updated and is due to be published next month (Feb.2024)
Great resources signposted above, thank you. Haha yes, Harold Shipman is hardly a 'recent' topic but I do think it's such a landmark case that medicine applicants should be aware of the details. Lucy Letby is of course another tragic, more recent example.
What about the 'experiment'? Or are we not allowed to talk about that particular 'hot topic'?? Heart attacks at their highest for over a decade! We'll just ignore that shall we?!
