Brother you are so right. It's like , hey it's a tornado let's get in the pick up and go chase it. Then you have 500 vehicles chase a storm all trying to get the best angle to film from. Son what do you want to be when you grow up? Dad I want to be a crazy storm chaser, so I can pee in my pants when I see a tornado and get a rush. Shalom

Another tip: if someone wearing a Halloween costume or a hockey mask with a machete is powerwalking behind you, stop looking back and actually pick up your feet when you run. This will help keep you from tripping over flat surfaces. No promises if you're running through the woods though. Or, and this is the preferable option: shoot them

Playing dead is a really bad idea, sharks tend to target defenseless prey to conserve energy so playing dead isn't really a good idea, espically if a shark wanted to attack you it won't give you a warning sign. Punching it's nose isn't much better they only gave that advice in navy seal training because they where strong enough but they recommend you to stand your ground first and show no fear.
@bomziezombiesoffcial5434

that is correct but hitting them in the nose does show you are not going down without a fight it does not need to be hard but hard enough to tell them oi fuck of i aint dying without a fight and anyway sharks hate the taste of human

Screaming underwater creates bubbles that will scare the shark away, flipping a shark over using the dorsal fin will put it in a paralysis of sorts and scratching its eyes could anger if or scare it away depending on the species.

Looking like you're not an easy meal is probably your safest if confrontation is impossible to avoid. Sharks aren't territorial and hate getting hurt while hunting. If it isn't starving, just looking like you're more trouble than you're worth is your safest option.

Uh, that Seizure one... Back in like... grade 3 or 4, we had to do presentations on... stuff, i forget, and some kid did it on Seizures, and his presentation included gems like "put something in their mouth so they don't swallow their tongue" and "Restrain them, hold them so they don't move". and as a Grade 4 Year Old, i knew those were bull, my mom was at the time in college to be a PSW, so she went over this stuff with me, for shits and giggles, i suppose. After the kids presentation i brought up that you SHOULDN'T do that, and just got in trouble from the teacher. And that always stuck with me, not because i was right, and the other person was wrong, but because what the other person was passing off as the truth was dangerous, and if at least ONE person believed him, it could result in someone dying because someone thought it was a good idea to put ANYTHING in a seizing persons mouth... I may have only been 10 or so years old, but i knew death was bad.

Sharks don't have hands. So they use their mouths to poke things they're curious about. Most shark 'attacks' are just a curious shark wondering what a person is, and they will usually bite once, & then swim off because people are boring.

only scavengers eat already dead prey, because most other predators assume that a corpse that's been left uneaten out in the wilderness died of a disease or poison and so isn't safe to eat.

That bullet removal one. So, so annoying. So, so pervasive. And in the movies, not only does bullet removal get the gunshot victim on the road to recovery... it blitzes them straight to recovery so that by the next scene everyone has forgotten about that bullet wound.
@TreyBattles
@TreyBattles 5 лет назад
Yeah that and when people instantly die in movies from a gunshot/stab in the stomach. There are no vital organs or major arteries in that area, you can survive for a couple of days. You can even survive for hours after being eviscerated (that’s when you have your entrails hanging out of your body)

Not to mention the bullet is always dropped in the same stupid metal pan...
@squalltheonly
@squalltheonly 5 лет назад
@@TreyBattles of course you can die from being shot in the belly area. If your stomach is ruptured, the stomach acid will poison you. Same with the liquid in your pancreas, kidneys, and any other organ in that region that houses liquids. Lets not forget that the bullet can travel to other areas of your body once inside, you could get shot in the belly and it hits your heart. Without medical attention, no way you survive 2 days.
@TreyBattles
@TreyBattles 5 лет назад
squalltheonly I didn’t say that you wouldn’t die, I just said you wouldn’t die instantaneously. It’s also pretty rare for a bullet to hit your abdomen and then your heart. It’s nothing but soft organs in that area, so bullets usually go right through. Knives or swords are just bullshit in movies, someone is stab and then die minutes later after some long drawn out death speech. That’s just not how it works.

As someone who was an EMT for a time diaphibulator paddles are definitely NOT just for those with a still beating erratic heartbeat. And it's frankly irresponsible and dangerous to instruct people against using them in a CPR life or death situation. If you ever find yourself in a cardiac emergency type situation first call or have someone call 911 then proceed with proper CPR protical while someone else retrieves the diaphibulator (assuming you are some place that has one) then follow the instructions included and continue CPR until EMTs fire and or paramedics arrive.
@stephaniecollins4334
@stephaniecollins4334 7 лет назад
I think I get the point that they were trying to make, that defibrillation is for people who do still have a cardiac rhythm i.e. ventricular tachycardia or fibrillation as opposed to those who are in asystole/flatline with no electrical activity in the heart at all. However, I agree that this was not explained properly at all to the lay people who are the vast, vast majority who are viewing this, and who are most not past the idea of no pulse = no heart rhythm. Patients without a pulse are the only ones who (may) need defibrillation in the field like this, and people should never be discouraged from applying a defibrillator to them if available! Defibrillators available in public places are all automated and will not shock a patient who does not have a rhythm that could benefit from it. So folks, if someone hits the ground and there's an AED around, hook 'em the hell up and do what it tells you!
@valtteri1520

Wait isn't it cpr first and then ask someone to call 911 or call yourself? Earlier you start cpr the higher changes of survival right?
@stefanmakara373
@stefanmakara373 6 лет назад
The longer it passes before a person received first aid the less chance they have of surviving. I think it is one minute-ten percent stuff. But from what I heard, it is illegal in America, people can sue you if you, for an example, break their ribs during crp. Which is stupid because that is a pretty common thing to happen. But when you are doing cpr (heart massages, mouth to mouth breathing) and there is no one to call the ambulance for you, dial the number, hook your phone between your shoulder and ear or put it on speakerphone and set it aside and give cpr while you wait- cpr can go for a long while and sometimes it takes a bit until someone answers your call.
@wesleyking1738
@wesleyking1738 6 лет назад
I have heard that, and I believe it to be true. In Canada we have laws that protect people who are genuinely trying to help, even if they break a rib or cause other damage. Because some aid is better than no aid in the vast majority of situations. But ya, like stefan said, call first and if you're able do it while doing CPR. CPR usually won't save somebodies life on its own, they'll need that rescue team, so call first then work on CPR. If you do CPR first, you're just wasting time because no professional is on their way to actual revive the person.

All those ppl who don't know anything about seizures boggle my mind.. You still mustn't interact with a person who has a seizure. While the attack happens, put away sharp objects like tables or chairs. Take care that the person is not in danger getting on a road. Also call an ambulance WHILE he has a seizure. When the seizure ends its your time to take action. It is simply to dangerous interact with a person who has a seizure.

some kinda guy those were 2 different & separate bits of advice. One was that punching a sharks nose during an attack works. The 2nd, separate one is playing dead in an animal attack works. He wasn’t saying to play dead in a shark attack. That would never work because sharks can detect the electromagnetic field that everyone’s body generates & they use that to find their prey. So if you did play dead, the shark would know you were faking it.

A mu more reliable rule of thumb is that the sun always rises in the east and sets in the west. As long as the sun is visible and it's morning or afternoon, you're set.
@Slavir_Nabru
@Slavir_Nabru 7 лет назад
Except it's only truly accurate if you happen to be lost on one of two specific days of the year, it can vary by quite a large margin (there's a 90 degree difference between June and December!). Better off waiting for Orion's belt to rise (the first star of the belt over the horizon is always within 1 degree of east) though that means waiting until the stars are out when you may as well follow Polaris (from which you can also calculate your latitude so you know how much further north you need to go).
@danielgehring7437
@danielgehring7437 7 лет назад
Lord Cottington The best advice is stay where you are. Search parties, i. e. the guys who didn't get lost because of trees, have a much easier time finding a non-moving target. Building a fire, playing loud music (or singing, the more off-key the better), and generally turning your problem into an impromptu camping chill session is a surefire way to get saved. For bonus points, try to get caught skinny dipping when your found.
@NorybDrol82
@NorybDrol82 7 лет назад
Lord Cottington Generally sure. But I hope you & everyone else realizes the sun doesn't rise in the true east or set at true west. In fact where it rises on the horizon changes minutely every day. That's related to why we have seasons. Also at some times of the year depending on if you are far enough north or south it won't set or rise at all for months out of the year.

From a medical standpoint and education in combat medicine, we try to keep trauma patients awake to prevent them from going unconscious and succumbing to shock. It's also easier to measure their mental status and whether or not it deteriorates if you can keep them with it and talking to you as long as possible. Theres also a lot of extra factors you have to worry about if they do become unconscious like aspiration for example.

you fall at the same speed because you both have the same acceleration, basic physics man. the main hindrance to this is trying to lie down in time before it hits the ground. their point is still valid spread your mass over as much surface area as possible.
@Bigandrewm
@Bigandrewm 7 лет назад
The elevator will be braked somewhat by cables unwinding, hitting the walls, etc.
@Bigandrewm
@Bigandrewm 7 лет назад
Also: the surface area isn't the only thing that affects the damage on impact. Time taken to apply the force matters too. So, while lying flat the bone-crunching force will be applied directly to your skull sitting right on the floor, and if standing, some of that force is spread out over both time and to less vital parts of your body.
@wesleyking1738
@wesleyking1738 6 лет назад
Yup, and noone has ever died from massive shock like that of having half their body crushed because all of the force of the fall is concentrated on a single point. If your spread out its only the weight of your head hitting the ground since its a separate point on the body with no weight around it. They actually got that one right. And heck if you're trying to avoid the head damage, lay on your stomach with your arms covering your face to cushion it, but for god sake don't stand up.

Playing dead is even _worse_ . It'll still eat you, no matter what. It gives the predator an advantage so it can eat you easily without struggle. And, note that maybe you can just go into a shelter whenever lightning strikes, and not be out in the open..? Unless, of course, there is no shelter near. I'm writing this while watching, and I thing that why people put cloth or a towel in someone's mouth during a seizure is to keep them from possibly severing their tongue because of their teeth clenching down at such force. Actually, just don't touch them at all, please. It can hurt you and the person having a seizure.

Screaming underwater creates bubbles that will scare the shark away, flipping a shark over using the dorsal fin will put it in a paralysis of sorts and scratching its eyes could anger if or scare it away depending on the species.Great whites are extremely dangerous and it is best to either get somewhere safe or have some way to fight back like something sharp. Also remember they are extremely fast and are used to jumping out of the water to eat seals, so make sure to stand away from any edges after an encounter. If you are already in its grip, go for the eyes, not the nose. Sharks eyes get covered when the attack for protection and getting the eye will scare them and possibly blind and confuse them, giving you time to get away, or covering or clawing at their gills stops them or effects their breathing, whereas punching them in the nose do have an effect but its hardly enough to stun them like other sharks. There was a video I saw about it I will find it :) www.discovery.com/tv-shows/shark-week/videos/how-to-turn-a-shark-into-a-zombie I cant seem to find the great white clip but In the same show he trys to stimulate the nose by punching ina d rubbing it but it does not work.

No you don't put anything in their mouth. You keep them from falling or banging into anything that could hurt them, and ride it out. "Swallowing their tongue" is in reference to when a TBI has rendered a patient unconscious to the point their subconscious is unable to keep their tongue from blocking their throat. For this you would simply do a "head tilt chin lift" or if spinal injury is suspected, a "jaw thrust" is used.

Check your infos. Yes, tongue can't be really swallowed, BUT what people actually mean by that is that they can unvolontarely turn it backwards in their mouth and block the air passage. And that's why you SHOULD use a spoon to help them, but only if they do suffocate.

You can certainly "interact" with them, just don't fight against their spasms or go anywhere near their mouth. If you need to, move them to safety like Stefan said, but otherwise just stick a pillow under their neck if their thrashing their head around a lot and wait for it to ride out. Also, you only really need to call an ambulance if its their first time having a seizure(if thats unknown assume it is), if it last longer than a few minutes, or if they have more than 1 seizure in a short span. Many people live day to day having an occasional seizure and then going back to their normal routine. Oh, and after the seizure, they're going to be really tired so expect that and don't be afraid to let them rest.(unless the seizure was brought on by some sort of brain trauma.... because they should have been in the hospital twenty minutes ago if thats the case)

You forgot to add that if you are in the crouching position is that you NEED to put your feet together. If you don't you will be shocked by the Lightning being sent through your heart and back down into the ground. Most shoes are made with some rubber pads on the bottom and they can help you while your heart will NOT be shocked by a lightning bolt.

In an earthquake, a doorway actually is a very safe spot to be, but only if it is in a load bearing wall. Not an interior dividing wall. So, a door to the outside, which is on one of the outer walls of the building, is a good choice.

No. Putting ANYTHING in the mouth of someone having a seizure is very dangerous because it could make them choke. You can ask any doctor, talk to an epilepsy awareness program they will all tell you that you should not put anything in their mouth.
@wesleyking1738
@wesleyking1738 6 лет назад
Do. fucking. not. touch a persons mouth during a seizure. You can straight up break or dislocate a persons jaw by doing that, a persons tongue can heal if they bite it and they're very unlikely to bite it clean off or anything crazy like that. And on top of that, where do you get off telling an epileptic how seizure support works? lol.

I've been an epileptic for 9 years and when ever someone claims you can bite your tongue off they can go fuck themselves because they know nothing about epilepsy. All because you've watched a few bullshit movie doesn't make you a specialist in epilepsy. What the true danger of having a seizure is your brain hitting the floor causing brain damage. If you see someone having a seizure you place him/her on the side and lift his head up and call 911.

Putting something between someones mouth while seizing is not to keep them from swallowing their tongue but to keep them from biting their tongue, as someone seizing can bite through their tongue, and in cases bite the tip off, which leads to severe bloodloss and if not dealt with quickly, death

I found a good way to figure out which direction is North, South, etc. is to face the direction of the sun. If you know what time it is, or at least if it's AM or PM, then just turn to your left or right to find the right direction. If the sun is rising in the East, then North will always be to your left. If the sun is setting in the West, then North is to your right.

THE RIGHT WAY TO HANDLE A SEIZURE! First, It’s impossible to swallow your tongue it’s anchored to your mouth it can slide back after the seizure blocking the airway. Put something soft under the patients head and if possible move items that the patient can hurt themselves on like furniture and call for an ambulance check the time when the seizure starts and ends; the amount of time the patient is down is important. Wait for the seizure to end that’s all most people can do. After the seizure roll the patient onto their side. Right side is preferred. If a woman is pregnant roll her onto her left side to avoid restricting blood flow to the baby. Wait with the patient until the medics show up. That’s how to manage a seizure.

Interesting perspectives and good to know! Although I am not certain about playing dead in the water when a shark arrives; through the ampullae of Lorenzini sharks are able to detect the electrical fields from the conduction system of the heart. Therefore, playing dead is maybe to no avail in a situation like that.

Most of these are pretty interesting and make sense based on physics. However I think punching a shark that is after you might still be a good idea! Also, if lightning may be about to strike, you have to admit that lying down is better than standing up, especially if you are lying on your side to reduce the exposed surface area. Electricity doesn't really spread out, it just finds the easiest path or paths to ground.

Crouching (as opposed to prone) raises one's profile in an electrical storm, making one's body a better direct route for the bolt seeking the path of least resistance. A direct hit vs getting shocked is likely the difference between life and death. I think you fail to understand why lightning strikes where it does, and just spewed out something you read on the internet. Bad move.
