I took 2 gap years after I finished high school and now I'm 3rd year undergrad and I am soooooo glad I took those 2 gap years (even though I didn't plan to), because by the time I got into my dream college I was 100% certain I want to go to that school. Now I am thinking of taking another gap year after my undergrad to work and travel a little before maybe applying for graduate school, but I am still thinking about it. Anyway, if anyone is not 100% sure what they want to do with their life after high school is over, I definitely recommend taking a gap year. It helped me so much with getting to know myself :)
I want to do something in engineering but I just can’t because of so many deadline being passed lol so I’m taking a gap year. Since you’re in your 3rd year in undergrads, how old are you?
@@Yara_Al-Sabbagh well I was lucky enough that I could live with my family for the first year. I did some volunteer work and worked during summer for my family. I already knew I wanted to study Chinese, but before that I was a bit afraid to pursue that. 2nd year of gap period I went to China (I got a scholarship from Confucius Institute where I was taking Chinese language classes) do I spent few months there. For everyone it would be different, but try to do different things, if you can of course. Where I live it's much different than in the USA or other countries, so my experience might be totally different than yours. ♥️
okay i’m six months late ahh i’m sorry but if you haven’t done anything yet, tell them you wanna figure out what it is exactly you wanna go to college for so you don’t end up changing your mind in the middle of the school year
I took a gap year too and it really helped me to find out who I am and what I want in life. It also helped me figuring out what I want to do job-wise. I would recommend this to everyone! :)
as the year is ending, i realized that i should have took the option of taking a gap year . now i'm in a course that i do not enjoy at all since i was pressured ,,, shs gave me an intense burn out that i feel like the summer break was pointless because i still feel it.
I am a college freshman who had a terrible 3 years in highschool from Sophmore year to my Senior. I’m in my second semester and I’m thinking of taking a proper breather from school. I loved this video! This was a breathe of fresh air for me, thank you for making this.
I've taken a gap year after 5 years on college. Although sometimes I've felt a little lost I'm glad that I'm living it. Now I feel much more excited to study a master and I'm excited with the idea of an ERASMUS.
i 10000% support taking gap years! i’m also on a gap year right now and it was the best decision i’ve ever made because i really took my time to find out what i want to do in college without the pressure high schools give you. i’m belgian so i don’t have to stress over college applications either. i traveled to seoul in november, something i wouldn’t have been able to do if i went straight into college!
I'm 3 years into my 'Gap' year. Worked just most of the time and now that I saved enough and wanted to travel for a year straight with no work interruption, something came in the way. So I'll just apply for uni and see how everything evolves. I agree tho, traveling and being away from school made me genuinely excited for uni, and I miss learning, so I've been listening to online classes. Going into uni now I will be so much more motivated to smash it and not see it as a burden. Also what I have in mind to study now is different to what I thought. Would have had no real job opportunities.
Hi can I ask what scholarships you were eligible for once you were applying for college? I'm just getting out of my three-year gap year and looking to apply to college but a lot of external scholarships are only available for high school seniors or those enrolled in universities
@@paigecensale Hey! This is not a scholarship, but in my Country I get finacially supported from the government because my parents are low income. Its not much, but it helps to pay for rent and food. Then everyone up to 25 that is still in education gets around 200 Euros from the government(actually my parents get them, but this finacial aid is ment to help parents support their kids and since I am living on my own, my parents forward it to me). There are loads of scholarships I could technically apply for. Every political party has a scholarship programm, then independend organisations, some focus on grades, some on your social engagement, some on you situation(like refugee, hard up-bringing, illness/disability), some on what you study( MINT-Degrees are often supported, especially if you are a women in MINT). Then there is one that goes thru your own University, its half paid by government and half by local businesses and supports students at that University. I applied for this one now. But I am guessing you might be from the US? Thats a different story. I honestly would have either gone to a community college or not study at all and teach myself. It sucks, that you have to worry about finances so much when studying.
I want to take a gap year to improve on my physical and mental health. Though out high school and middle school I have battle against depression and low self esteem. I don’t believe am ready mentally to go to college directly after school. I want to take a year off to get some therapy to help me with my depression and lose some weigh too.
Hiii! I totally recommend you to take a gap year bc I have been through the same things, I’m currently in my gap year and even tho I can’t travel I’ve been focusing on my mental health and it’s my priority rn so good luck always ✨
omg it's like I wrote this comment. I don't plan travelling but i want to focus on self-esteem and want to lose weight for my health. Also learn some languages, doing volunteering etc. but everyone says its possible to do these while going to uni too so i'm seriously so confused and worried about losing a year or losing interest to study uni or feeling more depressed bc of mostly being in home
@@morphenatemis9132 i relate to you 100% i also want to lose weight and focus on mental health but i feel like college is another factor we’ll have to worry about while simultaneously trying to get ourselves together
Honestly I'm glad you made this video because I'm graduating this year and I have no idea what I want to do, and I'm also interested in photography. This year I'm graduating from my high school and from a trade school. I'm going to become a certified photographer and I'm soo excited but I feel like I'm not sure if that's the only thing I want to do. Thank you so much for this video!! I'm going to look into this
i just found your channel and i am currently planning a gap year after i'm finished with university this fall. your videos are very helpful and aestcially pleasing :)
The most valuable thing I ever did was learn to cope alone abroad. I'm almost 10 years older than you but feel very much in the same headspace as you - I'm taking a career break to have a gap year at 28. You have your entire life to study and work, so if you're able to, taking time from those things to study yourself instead is so important. You are wise beyond your years! I only found your videos the other day but have binged on them so hard, keep creating!
Just found your channel, very nice. I did NOT take a gap year, despite wanting to. I also did NOT graduate from university, and think I would have if I would have listened to my heart. Best wishes
I have been wanting to take a GAP year for over a year now. However, my parents and adults I confide in do not agree. Due to that I will be (hopefully) starting college in the fall! I’m excited to start, but some part of me will always wish to have had a chance to travel at 18. I suppose it’ll be postponed a bit so better late than never! (:
omg! i graduated at 16 and took 2 years off school, now im 18 and heading back to school in January and i felt so slow and behind even though i worked and saved the whole time. thank you for posting!
I’m taking a gap year because of COVID. I made a channel about my experience. It’s super weird and I’d love to connect with other students who are feeling weird rn
I'm your age and I want to tell you that it's not too late at all 💚✨ There must be a place that you really want to visit or an activity that you would like to try, so go for it! (Also, hi fellow ARMY ☺️)
That sounds really disappointing, I'm sorry to hear that 😓 I know you'll find the right path for you and maybe this will just turn out to be a detour leading you to what's right for you 💕
Hello there! I'm 23 years old, turning 24 on December. Even though I think it's kind of late for me to be looking what to do with my life, I'm definitely looking forward for my future. I recently found out all this abroad and gap year amazing stuff. I just finished my first two years (AA degree) in college. And I'm currently got accepted for Spring 2021. I'm excited to do a GAP YEAR. But honestly, I don't know where to start. I am looking for scholarships. But Google doesn't help.
I and my family don't have money to travel as well as go to University somewere else... my illnes does put a somewhat stop for me as well. I will not by going to university in USA FOR SURE cuz to treat 1 type diabetes cost SO MUCH there...! I guess its to soon to worry just because i m 14 . 😅 but i cried alot already😪
This video is JUST what I needed. I had a whole plan to attend Portland State University this fall (my local school) and major in graphic design which is something I’m very passionate about! BUT due to the Big ‘Rona, that plan is VERY up in the air and most likely won’t happen. I’m really considering taking a gap year and working on starting an Etsy shop for my art while saving money to attend a school that’s farther away (Oregon State University) and has a better design program. It’s difficult to get excited about stuff these days, but this is something that I’m super excited for and it gives me a purpose!
So refreshing to see your video! I'm considering taking a gap year after I graduate college this month (given the current circumstances). Happy to see the positive discourse in the comments as well. 😊 Funny thing is I was in Porto early January too! Crazy how fast things change.
im graduating college this month too! any idea on how to finance a gap year or what you'll be doing in the gap year? im kinda lost haha ( maybe we can travel together!:0)
that's true but you don't have to comment that, she is talking about HER gap year, not yours. there's a lot of other options if you don't want/can't afford traveling. you clicked on this video for advice and she is just using examples about her traveling.
HoldingCa i get what you’re saying but if you plan in advance and work hard you can achieve it. Ik people who spent only 15,000 or less and they worked throughout high school to achieve most of that money.
i have a question, where do people get the money to take a gap year and travel from? ive been considering taking one just because i don't know what i wanna do in life and also my parents can't comfortably afford college. i was thinking of traveling abroad to do some volunteer work or do one of those host family experiences while also earning money to pay for college but how do you even afford being able to do one of those volunteer programmes or go abroad?
@@lovelydolltime8006 they wont be disappointed! They love you and will accept any decision that you make. You are still going to college eventually, so it's okay!😁
Omg my summer youth program made us watch this and I didnt realize it was you! I was watching your care package video earlier and I found out your an army!! So cool
i think so. i got accepted into a 4 year college and there’s a form to fill out for those that want to take a gap year. it’s different for each person so just do some research :)
I really want to take a gap year and watching this video is all my main reasons why i want to take a gap year! However, my parents dont allowed me to so maybe i'll take gap year later ;)
