6 Space Saving Tips For Van Life: How To Make The Most Of Your Small Space
Van Life can differ from person to person, we all have different needs, builds and ways of achieving comfort in our small spaces. But something that bonds us all together is the need to maximize on the spaces we have within our vans to create the most comfortable living situation. Over time in my small space I have changed and rearranged many times in order to capitalized on all of the little hidden spaces within my small micro camper. My 2020 NV200 is perhaps one of the smallest vans you convert, however that has not stopped me from finding tips and tricks to make the most of it and allow myself everything from a shower and toilet to a kitchen set up which allows me to cool just about anything I could want. Check out some of the things I have found along the way that make life easier and save a lot of space along the way!!

Very helpful. I don't have a home base so some wouldn't work for me. What I also do is put clothes in pillowcases and use them as pillows.

I do that as well for my wintery clothes during summery seasons... also jackets and sweaters that I need to get to when I am traveling through multiple climates :)

In the case of the sauces and filling up, I have also found that some stores offer sauces by the ounce and you can fill up that way. Also with the 6 oz tubes they will fit a small bottle from dollar tree easily so you can get odd shape bottles like steak sauce, ketchup or mustard there and put them into more manageable bottles. Then my favorite is if I stop along one of my favorite fast food places with special sauces I ask for extra then filter them into the bottles and then I have them at an easier disposal for cooking.

Oh my God if I owned a company I would hire you to run it and be the face of it you present things so good and I don't know if it just comes natural to you or if it's a lot of hard work but you're editing and filming is so excellent but more than anything you just have great communication skills.... lol.. well all the things I presented in this video were all things I purchased myself through trial and error...lol.. so if a company would like to partner my budget would appreciate them...lol.... With that said... I try very hard when I film just to be myself and share anything that might be helpful. I always try to remember if it would help me make a decision it might help someone else so give the info and tell how it works so that it make sense. I have seen a lot of videos which suggest things but lack the explanation phase or follow up and that makes it a bit more tough to determine if it will be a long term product for me personally. So I try to fill in the gaps so people can then make those decisions on their own with all the info they need to do so.

@@BunnyPlaysHere i showed one to my daughter in law yesterday. It had a chic fila logo in it. They use them to deliver and cater of out. I just like the style of the NV. But my favorite line of vehicle are Fords but they get a bad review all the time.

@@rrhopewell I looked at all of them and each have their positives but also come with a set of interesting reviews... for me the NV made sense because of the 100K warranty which is amazing!!! The drive on them is very similar when it comes to actual drive but some of the other features differ when it comes to cost and upgrades.

@@BunnyPlaysHere this is so true. I live the style of the nissans. But i battle between Ford and Nissan but i do know that Nissan is a better mechanically built vehicle. I have one now that is a 1998 Altima. But it’s breaking down so im in the market right now to buy something. Just not looking forward to that bill. 😫😫😫. Pray for me lol

The magnets have been a life changer!!! they have been so good!!! When I started out and tried several different ones those solved so many of the ongoing issues of being able to hang my curtain and wall items. The process of finding all these little things is like finding small victories one by one!!!

We use many of these to keep our space organized with our kids. Packing cubes that are color coordinated are the best thing.

I love my colapsable measuring cups! They also have small bowls that collapse with lids. Colapsable tea kettle for the morning Java, (or those quick PTA baths) And for those days when you just need to wash your hair, they have a silicone sprinkler attachemt to any empty bottle (2 liter, 20 oz). It is a Kurgo Portable shower and it works wonders. Enjoying your bids, keep up the good work! p.s. Chrome is awsome!

No problem!! I am the same.. collapsible is the way to go when it comes to space saving, I never thought much of it until I started traveling in the van and realized how much every inch really does matter!! You will love the shirt folder, it truly has helped with maximizing my under bed storage!!

I try to find some unique things that work for me and then pass them on. I have found that in my super small space that it really does matter how I organize and unlike home where you can get up and function without maybe making the bed, I can't in my small van because it effects everything!!!

There are several different ways you can do this. Places like Winco have bulk item sales so you can sometimes, depending on the area get things here in the correct amount of ounces. If you like the 6 ounce containers Dollar Tree has smaller items which can be then put inside and create a more uniform space. And if you travel near friends you can always split things. All of which are great ways to keep up with things. For me also a fun hack for some things, like I really love the Wendy's chili sauce, I ask for extras if I ever stop in I can then filter them into the containers for using later. lol... it sounds silly but some of those signature sauces are worth the squeeze..lol

I started using these when I was tent camping and I would put all my shampoo/conditioner products in them. They transitioned into my flight bottles because they were so handy and much less likely to pop open then the rigid 3 oz bottles you get most places. Now they are coming in handy again with my new adventures!! LOVE THEM!!

The collapsible have really won me over. I was hesitant at first but the more I have used them the more I have really found how much value they add to my space when used. The bucket was perhaps my most hesitation because I couldn't fathom it holding enough water for a shower, but when you start to really think in terms of water saving it makes sense that you won't use near as much and the bucket was perfect!!!

I tried those and the lids are a thin plastic and over the first couple uses started to seep spices out eeeekkkkk.... I also noticed the magnetic surface is not a strong so those don't stay on the walls as well when the temps are more extreme

I use my collapsible sink for my shower "pump". I heat water and add it to cold. I saw Chrome with the folding board and purchased one immediately.

Excellent tips! Ty so much! Am considering the T shirt device, thinking that fold prior to roll would wk for me. So much fun wkg out all the things and running a tight ship! Side note: Woke up to an unexpected 90% chance of 🌧️ at the campsite, had invited a friend so had set a tent w an air mattress for her, and we realized the eminent threat so hustled to break camp ,( nothing worse than taking down a tent in a cloud burst in the mud!!!) So I threw everything into the Van no time to carefully pack, and it was a huge huge mess that took up every square inch of space in my Voyager! Then the dark clouds blew over laughing, 'gotcha!' and I pulled everything back out and re organized everything to it's place and once again had a spacious living area to sit and wk in....perfect illustration of what u just posted! Love u girl, hope to see ya down the road!!

Lots of great ideas! I fold my tops like you, without the board then fold them in half and stand them up, folded side up, in my drawer so I can see what it is. If fits nicely, same height as the drawer.

Nice!!! I have found that if I do them with the board it allows me to squeeze in almost 3 more shirts than I could previously, that might not seem like much but that is 3 more days without having to find a laundromat on the road..lol

Great tips, I've got collapsible items on my wish list for when I get a van. I like the tshirt folder as I own a silly amount of tshirts and that's what I will be wearing when I live in my van.

Same!! I wear t-shirts so often when I am traveling because they are comfortable and breathable so they just make sense.... I usually pack a couple of nice looking outfits just in case I need to be "fancy" lol... otherwise it is leggings and t-shirts

The refill bottles are excellent! It makes it so much easier to be able to keep up with what you need and buy a cheaper price and then just use the things that you have so that you don’t have to buy more and more waste

YESSSSS!!! That is sooo similar to me.. when I was tent camping I would keep socks/underwear etc in packing cubes to make them easier to get to .. when I fly I do the same!!! the tubes are amazing and sooo durable!!!

I have a set of the fold down food storage sets. They are smaller than yours and up to the casserole size. We got them at the Kansas State Fair a few years ago. I got one of the sauce (squeeze bottles) too. I use them for when I go places for shampoo and other hair care stuff. They are great. I think the foldable sink and bucket I'll be getting when I go nomadic. We also have the shirt folders, too. I even have small and large ones. I think the packing cubes would be great!

I really have enjoyed mine for some time. There are two different types I use the compression bags and standard bags. I like the standard bags for regular things (those are the grey ones) and the compression are nice because you can zip them and then compress with a second zipper which allows a more snug fit.

You read my mind I swear. I am looking at a small van like yours not sure which one yet still working on that. Good gas mileage matters but with that comes creative use of space. This video is so helpful!

Awesome. I watch your videos when I just want to be cheered up -- thanks for being you. :) I find the tubes a bit hard to clean, so I use stackable baby food containers for the condiments.

the grey are standard packing cubes they have 2 styles one with mesh vents and one without... the teal are compression style cubes which allow you to cinch in things to keep them more secure.

I have actually found that in those cases some grocery stores like Winco have items which you can purchase in a more bulk food items sales manner. With these they have some of the sauces you use that you can then purchase by the ounce at a cheaper rate that suits your needs vs having the overage. Great way to stock up and keep things more minimal at the same time.

Just that u now, contentments ketchup, oil, sauces, mustard etc do not have to be in the frige at all!

I have been very satisfied with the Nissan thus far!!! Space wise I have enough room to do things that I need and the fuel economy allows me to go a lot of miles without it costing an arm and a leg. It drives well, is comfortable and has some features which make adventuring enjoyable. So if I had to purchase again, I would say yes!
