In this video I test out the Echo CS-490 limbing trees vertically in comparison to a Stihl MS-250 or 251.

Spending time outdoors doing projects with various machines and tools - anything from cutting trees, firewood, clearing brush, milling wood, plowing snow, reviewing, repairing & fabricating equipment. Doing landscaping and maintenance on my forested property using my Kubota tractor.
And its not all work!! Gotta take time to play - after turning my pond into a skating rink, and a whole bunch more of outdoor activities.

Hold a Stihl 661 in your hands and try saying that
@lugtugsawmill4725

. The things you don't like about the Echo could be fixed with a MS261 at about twice the price. If your dealer can get one at all.

You're right on that one! I think part of my dislike is influenced by the lack of experience with this particular saw in comparison to others. I did take the saw apart and it is very well made for the price.

For the verticle work you should have went with a 3510 which is aa 35cc entry pro saw from ECHO. Would be much less fatiquing, I think it's over 2 lbs less than the 490. Cheers.
@JelenOutDoors
@JelenOutDoors 2 года назад
I agree that a lighter saw like the 3510 is less tiring to use. I had been using a Stihl MS 250 for vertical work and the saw needed to be replaced. There were no Stihl saws available (any model) so I purchased the Echo 490 based on the price and specs that I would have spent on the Stihl 250. Here is a link to that video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vSx9X2wHzu4.html I don’t find the saw too heavy since I cut a lot but someone who does vertical work occasionally would be better off to go with the 3510 as you suggested. Thanks for watching!

@@JelenOutDoors I was going to suggest going even smaller and getting the rearhandle 2511 for that sort of work.
@JelenOutDoors
@JelenOutDoors 2 года назад
@@modarkthemauler Just looked online at the 2511P, it definitely looks like a very maneuverable limbing saw. It does have a pretty hefty price tag here in Canada. I think that using it when up in a tree it would be ideal but using it from the ground on larger jobs, limbing many trees the lack of power would be an issue.

Stihl koolaider making up excuses to hate a echo
@JelenOutDoors
@JelenOutDoors 2 года назад
No excuses, it is what it is. There is no perfect saw, no perfect brand. All saws have an application that they are best suited for. Cutting for over 40 years using all kinds of brands, all types of power variations of home user and pro saws. I can't believe that after 40 plus years this is the 1st Echo saw that I have tried.

Nice, but you didn't provide any comments on the saw's performance or what you do like about the saw.
@JelenOutDoors

Philip, I did a follow up video providing my initial thoughts after a very short term test. Here is the link ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0h6W10GHqT0.html Note, for the purpose that I bought the saw I was expecting better performance primarily with regards to maneuverability in comparison to the Stihl MS250. Now that I have had the saw for a much more considerable amount of time I have found the saw decent for felling small and mid size trees. Also, horizontal limbing, once the tree is laying on the ground opposed to vertical limbing when the tree is standing, handling the saw is much better. Overall I am happy with the saw. Thanks for watching, it is very much appreciated!

You should just stay with the plastic clamshell Stihl you saw.
@JelenOutDoors
@JelenOutDoors 2 года назад
Clamshell designed saws get a bad rap far more than they should. They are designed for a specific user and for a specific use. I have had some that have been amazing some not so much. Regular maintenance can make any saw last for a long time. Some of the servicing on Clamshells is easier, some harder. Mods are easier on Pros.

You really need 50cc for that?
@JelenOutDoors

A 30cc to 40cc would work fine but with the 50cc production is quicker and if I need to actually cut a tree down then a little more power helps. Thanks for watching and have a great day.

@@sundial6919 the Echo 590 is a great saw. I bought one a few years ago, and have put probably more than 30 tanks through it so far. Great saw, great price, and it isn’t far off from my Stihl. You can buy an Echo, get a better warranty than most, and save a couple hundred dollars. They are great.

The hard has two holes because it’s made to fit several different bars it’s not made to use both holes you use one or the other depending on what bar you are installing the tip gard
@JelenOutDoors
@JelenOutDoors Год назад
That makes sense Jay. I am not comfortable with the one hole concept because it's too easy to come loose and fly off or contact the chain. I think the idea is good but it is difficult to cut limbs with it on. Bucking or blocking would be more practical to use it.
@Dirtydigger
@Dirtydigger Год назад
@@JelenOutDoors oh no doubt I don’t think that little indent is enough to rely on considering as much as chainsaw vibration and the tip isn’t the part that gets you but if I did decide to install one I would drill another hole in the bar and use locknuts it’s not going to compromise the bar and the tip guard isn’t going anywhere with two bolts

I got the the Echo CS l-4910is not for your everyday human cause the clutch cover chainsaw bar glide is plastic and has to tighten your bolts 1 at a time it's light but my Style Ms 290 is really good the Styhl MS 250is okay I know using the chainsaw everyday that Styhl Is Better for residential and commercial the ECHO "16 CS3510 orange smaller chainsaw is the best a Echo small saw, and a Styhl Ms250 is not the best saw the Ms-290 if your comparing a 50 cc motor to a 48ccchainsaw but This years model Timberwolf is better than last year hard to find parts or chain for the Cs-490 is hard to find a chain for mine going on eBay tomorrow for 250$ on eBay!!
