I`ve followed a previous Curbal tip! I show a link to a MS Form, and when a user post a request, a MS Flow (Power automate) sends me an e-mail AND create a card on the trello board, that I create for each Report to plan further development of the report.
btw, I enter the link to the form in a small table, set Data category=web and row format: URL icon. The link is thereby distret - but powerfull. High5 to Curbal :)
My entire PBI life changed ever since I first followed ur instructions on building the football report. I am extremely grateful. Honestly I do wish to share my work with you to show how I took the report to the next level
Very useful tips. Honestly I think that 5 and 6 are the most important. For me the best practice is: 7. Add instructional page in order to not clutter my normal pages with guides and information 8. Very counter-intuitive. Turn off visual headers and disable interactions unless you want them be turned on. Especially important - if users are accustomed to PPT and Excel.
H, Ruth. Thank your for the tips. As for #5, users might need to know that the PBI Service (only) uses UTC time. They'll need to pad the time (also adjust any Now(), etc., measures) to match the applicable time zone. On-premise deployments should be fine.
I recently started creating a dataset information tab that includes the last refresh time, a link to a user guide (when necessary) and a version history table visual which include version number, date, developer and comments.
Very useful, I do some of them and should do all of them. I often have the same report template for different territories in our business. The data imported differs as dictated by a couple of Parameters - Country and Currency. I always show their values in the report. I'm a big fan of flags too :)
Hello Ruth, interesting to see you venturing out into UX Design of Reports! Couple of points I'd like to run by you: 1) Summary page - I have tried this few times but feedback from users was to actually show data straightaway (but Im sure it depends from user to user). That said, isn't that what Dashboards were (kind of) designed for? Are you using dashboards a lot yourself? 2) Native Power BI functionality taking over - with the "author" or "contact" and refresh date > these are now available in the new look natively, would you still recommend to do it maunally on the report? 3) One thing that helps but is not easy to achieve is to have standardized look & feel and layout for reports, so that once user knows how to use 1 report, he can use all. What do you think? Thanks!
Hi, I love navigation pages because it is an opportunity to summarize and explain what the report is about, I do understand though that not everyone likes them. When it comes to date refreshed and author, I mention in the video that even though they are available in the service it is not so discoverable and therefore it is good to have it on and yes, Themes are great , so if you know how to create them go for it, but remember to change things a little to make the reports stand out from each other ;) /Ruth
That was good. I'm relatively new at Power BI so I'dd like to know how you create a button that resets the filters. I would like to know how you get the last refresh date. Thanks and keep up the good work.
This is a fantastic quick video... The exact ideas/practices I am trying to push in my company... I tried to find the PBIX file for this example in the downloads center but could not find it.. Is this available?
Tha is Ray, Yes it is available in the membership downloads. Here is a blog post with all the fifa tutorials: curbal.com/blog/follow-the-fifa-world-cup-2018-in-power-bi /Ruth
Title, description, data refresh date, user guide, feedback link, slicers on the left, content on the right, details table at the bottom, sync slicers, snap to grid.
Great . Hi I have a question here. My manager has asked me to integrate alexa or google assistant in power bi app in my phone. What they want is if they ask a question using Q&A from report result which I will get that should be in voice. Ex. If Ask over the phone “ what is my this month sales amount?” result should be in speech only. Can you help.
What i'm trying to understand is, how do you maintain those filters updated? I played a lot with buttons and my customers were satisfied with navigation (users were not using self-service)
Thanks curbal for useful tips I am facing a challenge to show last refreshed on the top of summary page in power bi service but it's not showing correct time. It's showing correct in power bi desktop.please guide me Thanks in advance
Hi Ruth, i experience problems with page size... ideally, you want to try to fit in everything neatly without increasing the size too much... what do you think should be the ideal page size of the report so that font size doesn't get reduced or non readable? btw... i really like that report at @0:11 -- it's really clean and stunning! i am also planning to migrate one of my big report into that sort of neat report..
Yes looking forward to it as well. Anybody knows an idea to vote for which bookmarks the position of current view as well. That would be a huge help to enable a scrollable modern website look alike. Also what‘s better actual size or fit to width?
@@CurbalEN Sorry for posting this question in Norwegian. This makes it difficult for other readers to follow. When I open a BI report on powerbi.com a page tab appears to the left of the report. After creating an index in my report, as you recommend here. This page bar gets a bit redundant. Is it possible to set it up, so that this page bar does not appear when a user's opens my report?
Why do you think it‘s old fashioned? Because MS provides now a better navigation with the new navigation experience in service? I use it on all pages, since it functions as title as well
