Serena had no problems beating Maria because all Maria did was hit hard and flat. Serena had the decades of practice with Venus who did the same thing basically, but Maria’s serve was worse and movement was way worse than Venus’s, so that plus Serena’s dislike for Maria gave her no chance. 😂

@@kofipokuantwi-boateng5446 honestly, and i'm being REALLY nit-picky, but even though it was 6-0, 6-1, i thought maria played kind of bad that match. the difference between the olympics and the aussie final is that she was effectively in good form in the aussie final and was just outplayed, especially since queen was still fat at that point.

If anything, Graf should have been humiliated as a 17 y/o Serena took her to task. Graf said it herself. She saw Serena had great potential. Graf also knew Serena was young, and the choosing of the correct shots or her strengths were not yet fully developed. So what if she was eleven years older, Graf was still in her twenties. It's not like when Serena was 40 and beating 18 yr Olds. Big difference. If you put it that way, Graf was 12 yrs younger than Navratilova, and Navratilova beat her at times, too. The difference is Navratilova was in her 30s.

People tend to disrespect Sharapova because of how Serena dominated her. She was a very good player. In fact she was a nightmare for some top players. Serena was just a horrible match up for her. Serena wanted to prove to the world she was still the queen. The media was so quick to try to install Maria as the new queen in 2004.

Sharapova was a baseline basher and most could not hang in there. Aga defeated her in Miami being a pusher and with drops and angles. Sharapova could not handle the soft game, could not switch gears.

These were ALL bona file beatdowns; just small examples of why Serena Williams is, was and will always be regarded as the GOAT of women's tennis. They'll never be another like her, not in the smallest way, and the game has never been the same since her retirement. Thanks for all the great memories, Serena "The GOAT" Williams! Some people are easier to play. Maria has met Serena in semis more than once. Maria could beat some others to get to semis, quarters, and finals. She just seemed to have a hard time with Serena.

It was a terrible matchup for Sharapova. She tried to play a very similar game to Serena, minus the movement and defense. It was always going to be tough for her to hang in rallies with Serena. Especially with the massive difference in serve.

That’s when Maria became a rising star in tennis and I don’t think Serena liked that and she made it her mission to never lose a Slam to her again. Not only didn’t she lose to her she completely destroyed Sharapova in the majority of their matches.

@@lindasolomon1688 Not many people know that Sharapova had a serious shoulder injury and had an operation and doctors said she should never play tennis again.. But she did .came back but had to learn a new service motion to avoid futher complications.. Her service speed was much lower and at the same time she was making up 20 double faults in the match.... No matter what you can not beat Serena with this kind of game or other top 10 players.. Still I belive Serena was much better player..

Maybe you forgot that she beat Justine Henin in the 2010 Australian Final. Plus Justine cheated while they were playing once at Roland Garros, when she raise her hand up when Serena was about to serve and it threw the serve off and Justine fail to acknowledge what she did, when the ref didn’t see it. Since then I was never a fan of hers. I don’t like cheaters

I've seen Serena in person play twice: first was at the 2002 WTA Year-End Championships final against Kim Clijsters (she lost) in Los Angeles when by chance we were on a US vacation and staying at LA and Orange counties; the second was at the Philippine leg of the International Premier Tennis League in 2014. I didn't get the impression that her build wasn't inherent and enhanced with an intense gym routine.

@@RavinRay there is an opinion that Sharapova is a cheater (although the meldonium she took is used to maintain the heart muscle and is used in Eastern European countries among pensioners) However, the Williams sisters spent their best athletic years playing with therapeutic improvements, since they suffered from serious illnesses and the drugs they took were far from harmless meldonium ). There was a podcast by a former WADA employee in which he said that no one will ever touch the golden cows of world sports as long as they bring in billions and among the suspicious people he pointed out tennis players sisters and Nadal
