Someone told me to season my fire wood so I put salt and pepper on it. Seriously, though thanks.... was wondering why I couldn't get freshly cut wood to burn at all.

From all the research and videos I've come across it seems that it takes upward of 2 yrs to fully season Oak firewood...Down here in Houston Tx I usually burn my oak in my outdoor fire pit after a year of being split & stacked...it will have just under 20% moisture content in the wood.

Honestly it really depends on how wet the wood is when you split it and where you a drying it. The best combination for drying wood is a nice sunny spot that gets wind. My rule is 1 year for softwoods and 2 years for hardwood.

Some good points.

Good job Josh. BUTT never completely cover a stack as you show. It will lead to mold or mildew. Top cover only to allow air/sun to dry the splits. We use 6-8 cords /year for heat self harvested on our woodlot. No matter how small oaks ( red, white, black, pin ) are split, they need at least 2 years to be ready for safe burns. JMNSHO

@@tjhughes7740 If you did split your Oak into smaller pieces and you stack them in a single or double row in the full sun/wind plus have that pile covered with a tarp or sheet metal it will definitely be dry enough to burn properly by next November first. The 'green' will be gone from that wood by that time.

The wood dries much quicker if you remove the bark while the log is still green.

Stack the wood So the rows Are going north and south cover the top with black plastic morning sun hits the east side noon sun hits the top afternoon Sun hits the west side of the pile what’s the fastest way

Nice video I have a cover for my wood should I keep the sides of the cover up so the wood can get air, I always leave the sides/flaps down thanks

currently building a didgeridoo from a freshly cut tree. the wood is almost impossible to sand properly cause it rips in small fibers rather than turning into dust. i could never imagine how extremely difficult it would be to find a log of decent size to make a didgeridoo so i had to do it from fresh wood

Must be dry. And proper quality Balsa wood produces excellent quality sound but must be cared for store in padded yet breathable bag. Light coating of linseed oil to protect the wood Certainly can use other wood. Bamboos is easy but died not give the traditional appearance. Bamboo must occasionally be giving a water treatment on occasion, depending on environmental conditions; not soaked but run water inside and out and stand it in up so extra water drains. Areas of high humidity won’t dry it out as much over time.

2:43 lololol that guy never dresses like that. In fact The only people who dress like that are actors who are told to dress by stylists who have no idea what they're talking about lol. To add to that, it's pretty obvious that this guy has never touched wood before and he doesn't look very happy lol. But regardless this was still a very helpful video. Well done!

At the 3:40 mark it shows a cover over the firewood. That is not a good way to dry it at all and I would not do that even after dried.
