Thank you from Perth Australia. Your videos are helping my children and I so much. My husband and their dad has been lying to us for 12 years about his alcoholism. He has had me believe I am crazy and irrational for all these years and I am completely broken and worn down. This channel has given me hope and made me feel like I am no longer alone. I read all the comments and no longer feel crazy. You have taught us so much about addiction from both sides. So grateful. Thank you. 🙏

Recognition - as the spouse of an alcoholic, I realize I’ve been asking for this for years. Every argument has been about me not feeling appreciated, loved or connected. When I ask for it, I’m told I have abandonment issues and am needy. It took me until August of this year to recognize the big picture because I started looking into abandonment and realized I’m codependent. I now know my requests for connection, affection and partnership were/are valid.

How do you respond when the addict stonewalls? Also, they blame that I'm the reason they do not respond. Every issues addressed is not responded to. Nothing changes. My anger is toward myself, but it comes out as criticism. I keep praying to keep my mouth shut. After so long with no one to talk with, I can't keep it in any longer and it comes out wrong!😝 Always grateful for you, Amber!

This is not really advice because I am not a professional. I'm just like you. My husband does the same. He has even said it is healthy to walk away and gather his thoughts. But he never revisits the issue. I just lived with it. Then I saw him do it to our teenage daughter. He also told her it was healthy. So I called him out and told him "it is not healthy. What you are actually doing is called stonewalling" He said he felt ganged up on and left. I know it's not always healthy to call someone out in front of the kids. But my daughter has been opening up to me. She wants me to leave her father because of the way he talks to her when I am not around. So yes, I stopped it while it was happening. He didn't get the message. He left feeling like the victim. So I started to do it to him. He has a habit of complaining of my parenting. Frequently wanting to drill me about the kids. So I started to tell him I was overwhelmed (which was true) and that I didn't want to talk about it anymore. He finally blew up and told me I couldn't just keep saying I was overwhelmed and avoid having these conversations. So I told him it was healthy for me to take a break. He finally got the message. He finally realized it wasn't healthy. But in all honesty, I'm going to keep doing it. It is nice to get out of being lectured and being told in passive aggressive ways that I am a bad mother.

@brittany7573 I'm sure it is very difficult raising a child, especially teenager in your situation. I grew up with alcoholic and have suffered my entire adult life because it really messes with your brain, emotions, self esteem, everything!

Trust. I do not trust him. He has lied, cheated, etc. Control. I have control issues . I took on the role of doing everything for my ah & kids. Recognition. Didnt get it so didnt give it. Just got much worse throughout the years & made me a miserable person. Im a work in progress. Love your videos ty 😊

Hello from the Gold Coast, Australia. I relate to every single one mentioned. Stonewalling is a big one. If I try speak in any way I get stonewalled. And I get told straight to my face that they don't want to talk about it. I can talk about the weather, the local news, work and normal every day things but anything else I get stonewalled. I am literally just stuck not knowing what to do because all I get is the silent treatment.

I'm guilty of all of these except being dishonest. I'm aware of this. I'm stuck in a negative cycle.

What if the dishonest person thinks they are protecting you (and obviously themselves and their addiction) by not disclosing the extent of their substance abuse?

Hi Amber, when I put up my question about my addicted loved one recently throwing in my face that I couldn’t have kids and he found it funny. U said he must have been mad at me. All I said to him was the woman he is with has a young daughter living where he is staying and they are using drugs. He then wrote on fb go and have a baby Sharon, oh that’s right u can’t haha.
