36 years riding sportbikes and my best advice is to constantly scan. Make sure you know as much as possible about your surroundings, what's coming up in front of you, behind you, look for drivers turning their heads cuz that probably means a lane change and assume nobody sees you. Ride smart!
Little late to the party on this one, but my tip after over a decade of riding, NEVER lose respect for the machine you're riding; understand that it is PERFECTLY capable of ending you at any time.
I started riding since birth. Always on dirtbikes though. Then 6 years ago I got into street and my first street bike was a KTM RC390. Dirt and street are different beasts. Rode the 390 for about 5 years and then upgraded to Aprilia RSV4. People did make fun of me for the 390, but it did not bother me lol. But to new riders, I recommend definitely start out smaller and understand fundamentals before getting a bigger bike.
Around every tax season there's alot of new riders that just want to jump on and go fast.. preach it brother 🙌 I can't stress that enough to new ryders "ride your own ride" a new rider will run with a group and push there selves more than there skill level. Take the time to learn. 💯 I have a wife and 2 kids to make it home to after every ride. The fact that you can just make it home is a blessing 🙌 #fastlanegang
Completely agree. I actually bought my first bike this year. It’s not my first time riding them but I’ve never owned one. Used to race 4-wheelers and whatnot. My stepdad called me up and asked if I wanted to buy his 2012 Honda cb1000r. Only has 1600miles. It was a family dispute for a bit because we lost my uncle in a bike accident 5 years ago from a semi turning in front of him. Driver said he didn’t even see him. I ride by myself and just cruise the speed limit. Lots of people want to go fast and such but really for me it’s the enjoyment of the ride and watching my boys get excited when I pull in the driveway. Just have to ride smart.
I agree…over the years I’ve seen SO many people get hurt just trying to hold a group pace that they’re not comfortable with. Getting home safe to your loved ones is always the ultimate goal. Good video brother covering a lot of things. I started my riding journey 37 years ago and it was on a Honda CR80, then moved up to a CR125 and then to a 1986 Kawasaki Ninja 600. For some reason when we get to a street bike, we feel like kings/queens that are untouchable. Tragedy struck some of my nearest friends in those days and it begins to make you think more. I ended up getting my motorcycle license through a 4 day national safety course. Best thing I ever did and still talk about it today. SO my advice to any NEW RIDER is to take a safety course first! Us "veteran" riders establish bad habits through the years, so maybe admittedly we are not the best teachers in all situations. BUT most of all, I want to WISH all riders safety and to keep the rubber down and the shiny side up! God Bless you all from a fellow brother and rider from Massachusetts!
I took the 2 day course through Bartels Harley Davidson. Super Professional and learned a ton of stuff. Its good even taking those classes even after you have you liscence every year or so to freshen uo on Your saftey and Riding Technique 🤙🏼💪🏼👍🏼

No doubt on the chain part though. My first bike was a 2004 CBR 600 F4i, HEAVILY used. I think it had 24,000 on it when I bought it, and it was used as a stunt bike. Don't get me wrong I still loved that thing though. Anyways, I was about 100 miles from my house at 7pm, headed home, and my damn chain snapped. I was stuck in a city I barely knew (I was passing through) with no cash and nobody I knew. I tried to get to the parts store but missed them by about 5 minutes. I ended up buying a D.I.D chain and have never trusted a chain that was already on a bike again.
Ride humble man especially in group rides. I’ve only been riding for about 6 months and just recently went from a 400 to 600 but still acknowledge my level of riding when it comes to what I’m comfortable with and what I’m not. I’ve experienced first hand scary moments when I’ve tried to “keep up” with others and just keep in mind that things will literally go from 0-100 real quick, real bad but don’t let it discourage you from riding and having fun. Just be careful and ride safe. This video was epic bro. You played a big role in inspiring me to ride and in my knowledge over riding overall so thanks for this type of content. Keep it up !!👍🏼

I've been riding almost 50 years. If I had this bike when I was 16 I don't think I would have seen 17. I'm lucky as it is considering the way I rode. That H2 sounds awesome.
I’ve been riding for years and really like the high speed on your highway rides. But to new riders it takes years of experience to ride like that. The ride that you just took is a great way to learn and gain experience. Enjoy your ride,then return home safe that is the most important part of riding.
The best advice I can give to new riders is ride ur ride meaning stay within ur skill set don’t try to do what u see a more experience rider doing there are levels to this shit 💯🎯
I only just got my first bike in July 2022 and I took my MSF course April of 2022. As someone who had never operated a motorcycle before I'm so glad I did. The information was amazing. I chose a Ninja 650 as my first bike and I adore it. I don't really have a desire for speed so I typically find myself hovering around 55-60. She's my baby and her name is Celeste. I can see the potential in getting a supersport possibly later but for now I'm highly content with my 650. I love watching you all have fun even though I could never keep up. But this video made me feel a lot better about my inexperience with riding, especially from all the experienced riders in the video and the comments. You all make us new riders feel welcome and make us feel like we can ask questions if we don't know something and we won't get judged. I started following your content when I was researching different bikes before I made my decision and seeing yall have fun is always fun to watch. Keep up the good work!
I know this is a late reply but... As a person who's been riding almost a decade on the streets myself, I would never ridicule someone trying to learn. In my opinion, the WORST type of rider is the one who thinks they know it all, and won't have an open mind when it comes to hearing advice. Now, I'm not saying that I'm anywhere near the best rider, and I'm not saying all advice is good advice, but hearing different opinions on different things and taking them all into consideration is the best thing you can do. What FastLane D said in this video is completely true though. Don't outride yourself if you're not comfortable. I still remember before I started riding and I would ask different guys with bikes about riding and what it's like and there were definitely some a-holes that thought they were better than everyone else. It's just not cool. There's nothing cooler than being welcoming to newcomers who want to share the passion that us riders have for riding. And there's definitely a lot to learn about riding, different styles, and how to ride in a way that makes you or someone else comfortable. We are not all the same, and thus not everything applies to each of us. Anyways, welcome to the rider community, hope you're enjoying the freedom you feel from riding, and wishing you the best of luck in the future. Keep the rubber side down!
Side note I wanted to add real quick, when I first started riding, having delt with the types of people I did before I started (see other comment) I was scared to ask questions and ask for help. I dropped my first bike 5 times before I totaled it, and then dropped my second bike in the first week. It was after that that I had started asking the questions about riding that I was too afraid to ask in the beginning.
Towns may have no chase policy's, but in most states the state troopers do not have such restrictions. State troopers are just a phone call away, are board and have NO chill.
@@mikerotch1249 my message was for more new riders. The best way I can put it is they train and practice catching speeders and to them it is a "day at the office". Even though riders have done pulls to 160+, alot of them have never kept it there for 20 to 30 min to get away.
Agree with the "don't run from the cops!" It's really NEVER worth it, just stay within the law or within the "grey" areas of the law, so you don't lose your license, done. :)
Tripple the speed limit, is fa felony. Even double is very bad. If you commit, you better commit. There is no such thing as "DONE" in life except Death, and the bomb squad's failures. You said greay area, then instantly jumped to black and white. I have stopped, and I have ditched. It depends on the conditions for me. You know, that greay area you glossed over.
Some guy tried this exact thing the other night at bike week in Daytona Beach. He flipped off a motor officer and then he ran. So he runs to a red light and it gets nailed by a truck. He gets up and then all of a sudden he gets nailed again by three officers, jumping on him. I vote for not running and adding extra charges.
As a new rider i believe im always leaning more on the defensive driving style since i drive a truck and trailer for a living so it puts me in that mind set. I know what to look out for and understand every scenario where i can try to speed or cruise
That sixth tip is great, started my bike up the other day to warm it up, turned around to put my helmet on then turned back around to hop on and noticed all this fuel dumping out from the fuel pump. Always always always check the bike while it’s running/warming up
Have to say love the "ride your own ride" comment. I'm newish to riding and where I live when you first get your license you have to ride a lower power bike that is learner approved. Some of the people I ride with have been riding for years and are on some pretty quick bikes and I'm really happy to get left behind, ride within my confidence and turn up. Much prefer that to trying to keep up and not making the meeting place
In my 20s I wore anything to ride in and luckily i never went down. I'd also run with out second thought. In my 30s personally probably not gonna run. But if you're gonna run and your first instinct is anything other than wrenching the throttle just pull over. If you have to think about its probably because you're unsure about something, increasing your odds of serious injury. Always fill up as soon as you leave the house. With warmer weather approaching check your tire pressures. They most likely dropped unless your bike sat in a climate controlled environment.( tire pressure should always be checked before riding as the heat generator from braking and tire friction will increase the pressure potentially leaving your pressure low at cold start) Dress for the slide not for the ride. Don't be a dick and wear a 1300-1700 pista and put your passenger in a cheap $150 helmet. Your protection is no more valuable than theirs, most passengers don't know the difference in gear and they are trusting you have their best intrest in mind. As well as their life.
I started on a ninja 400 a year ago. I'm still having an absolute blast on it! specially in the twisties. I just hate when I'm at a light and someone with an R1 or something pulls up and makes my bike feel so small lmao.
Can't be self conscious about the size of the bike man, just get good on what you got. Doesn't matter what biggest and best new r1 or zx10 you got, there's always some little Italian kid out there somewhere on a 250 that's faster than you, that's the way I think about it.

My very first bike was a 2004 Honda CBR F4I, I bought it with a dented gas tank and bad fuel pump for $2500. Fixed it up myself and even repainted it myself best bike I ever had, lost it in a divorce and to this day have still tried to find another one. Currently have a cbr 650 and still missing the f4i.
My happy place is riding the rolling hills and curves of western Kentucky. My 23 KRT 6R currently has 114 miles on it and she is getting broken in gentle. My advice to new riders is scan ahead and use peripheral vision also visually scan ever changing road surfaces...especially after thunderstorms. Expect and anticipate cagers making abrupt and road rage like behaviors. Definitely observe for handicap tags hanging on rear view mirrors. Some of those folks are sometimes heavily medicated and lost/confused. Wildlife is also a biggie in the bluegrass. Deer every flipping where. If one crosses in front of you 2 or 3 more will follow. Be aware and arrive alive so keep your feet on the pegs and wheels on the ground with your peepers as sharp as an eagle...always leave yourself an escape route wherever you ride. Do not cross that thin adrenaline line or you will be rolling in a chair, bedridden or rolling slap through deaths doorway. It is all about choices!
Can't someone make like a flip up switch for the plate so that you still have it on at the gas station? Or would this just get em caught with camera's?

But if a cop suspects its you and comes over and pushes ur plate and it flips, thats a fine and whatever for that ( here its 3/12 points on ur license in the uk. Same as speeding.) And if theres any evidence of u flipping it back they can just check videos to see what the plate is so.. its good if u wanna blaze it sometimes casual ride others. But u gotta get outta heat before flipping or it could backfire 😂
Excellent tips, and videos don't have to be new to still be relevant. Thanks to all long term riders who provided tips on this channel. I just went over 1,000 miles on my Ninja 400 and I'll use all the tips, tricks and advice you're willing to offer.
I'm just starting to learn how to ride again for the first time in 22 years lol. A lot of people tend to jump into the fast bikes, but I'm taking the time to get comfortable with a 250cc before I make the jump to a bigger bike. I have a wife and 3 kids I need to make it home to.
Riding is just a different level of enjoyment. When youre riding you just forget about anything else and you focus on the road and everything around you. you focus on your lines you focus on every other vehicle on the road making sure they dont make a stupid move. It forces you to forget all your troubles and just focus on the ride. especially at the track. making your lines better and better each time. to see every millisecond of improvement. Some advice for the new riders out there. Never be in a hurry or a rush. those extra few minutes getting home early are NOT worth your life. take your time and enjoy the ride just like youve been doing all day. so what if its on the way home. take your fucking time. learn from the mistake i made on a brand new 2015 r6 trying to rush home almost getting run over by a semi truck. because i wanted to take a chance at going around it. and another thing, dont try and keep up with other riders that are faster than you. a true rider will wait for your around the corner. take your time and learn the bike.
It's the shorts and tee shirt that get me. There's 2 types of riders" ones that have been down and the ones that will go down". I had 2 buddy's crash last week one died on a zx1k and my other buddy on a hatley streetglide he pulled through but his passenger didn't make it. In both accidents a car pulled out infront of them. Stay safe and most definitely ride your own ride don't push past your skill level 💯. Stay safe and just enjoy the ride the main goal is to always make it home. #fastlanegang
If you are going to have your girl ride with you on the back, make sure that you are giving her good gear. Guy at 4:36 on the R1 has a whole jacket but his girl just has a sweatshirt.
ye... pre-flight check. high rpm's is vibration, vibration is enemy of fasteners, oil cap, oil filters-- which r supposed to be hand tight to begin with right?. ALLLLways air pressure b4 every ride. always. cold weather decreases the air pressure on what was a properly inflated tire. stop for gas? bite to eat?. walk-around inspection, again. fairing fasteners I find loose every couple rides. last time I found brake res cap screws loose!!. not alot, maybe a 1/4 turn but coming loose. checked 2nd bike-- yup, also loose!. should scare u to find sh*t loose an make u be a diligent from then on checker cos its ur ass out there at 160 man. preach it D!
My first "street legal" bike was a Honda vf 750 I rebuilt from the grave. Second was kawi zx9r. I learned on the first block that bike was different when I got to 70 and had to stop. After that it was slow on slow stop. 2015 kawi Zx10 was my latest and I rode it seamless. Very fast but I was expecting it.
my favorite piece of advice that EVERY new rider should hear is : master the basics before you start challenging yourself. be 1000% sure you can do things perfectly like smooth gear changes, throttle control, good steering before you go popping wheelies and stuff. don't get cocky and respect that you're on a machine that can kill you.
44 years on road and 10 years dirt bikes before that. New riders are at another level today! we never dared try this stuff. Bursts of 100 mph were common but I mean for like 1/4 mile
You have GREAT advice. I never ride without gear protecting every part of me. I often tell riders: all or nothing. If you crash, you either want to survive with a few injuries or die quick.

So im actually a new rider and ive learned alot watching your videos. P.S. i wish i knew the difference between a parallel twin and an inline-4, cc's dont mean anything
Parallel twin is 2 cylinders next to each other. An in-line 4 or IL4 is 4 cylinders in a row. Essentially 2x the twin. Say a 2 cylinder 1000cc is two 500cc cylinders. An IL4 1000cc is four 250cc cylinders. Typically lower the cylinder count = more low end and weak top end and bassier sound. IL4 = weak low end and strong top end and higher pitch sound. Hence the use of IL4 in racing since you’re typically in high rpm range. Then you have V4 and CP4 engines. Which are 4 cylinder engines in different orientations. Have a bassier sound and more bottom end power than tradition IL4. people say V4 handle better than IL4 or CP4. CP4 is IL4 but a different crankshaft for better performance. V4 is like a vtwin but doubled in parallel. And CC’s is size of cylinders. Higher CC’s = more hp. But a 1000cc twin has less hp typically than a 600cc IL4. Unless you bring in a superduke. Any more questions feel free to ask
Ride like nobody can see you! Meaning, just assume cagers don’t see you or know you’re there. Don’t ride in peoples blind spots, don’t ride right next to cars, don’t follow too close and watch when they come up from behind when stopping and never outride your own skill set. I got a turbo’d Daytona 675r at 16 and been riding street bikes till this day (28) but started riding dirt bikes at 4 and consistently racing from 6 till I was 18 (still race at least at one series a year even now) and that’s always the list of advice I give to new riders at group rides.

As also someone who isn't riding yet, I've done a bunch of research because I want to start this year. Top picks for new bikes are: Yamaha R3, Kawasaki Ninja 400, KTM Duke 390, Honda CBR 300R are the big competitors for the beginner sportbike class. The Yamaha R3 also has the MT-03 as it's cousin, they have the same engine buy the MT-03 is a naked bike.
My first bike was a Grom knock off, and I got it new. Never dropped it once, however it was a major P.o.S and broke down constantly. My second bike is a kawasaki ninja 400, and I'm just waiting for the dealership to deliver it. I think it matters how you ride depends on if you get a new bike or not. Drive crazy, and let others influence your actions, and you'll destroy a bike. Drive careful and controlled, and you may never lay your bike down.
@@can_with_beans I started last year on the CB300R (naked version of the CBR300R) and I can mostly recommend it. It's light, easily maneuverable, not too powerful so it's really forgiving, but it will feel powerful to a new rider. My only problem with it is, that it doesn't have enough torque to ride in 1st gear without throttle, so practicing slow speed stuff is more difficult. I did my riding course (EU equivalent of the MSF) on the MT-07 and I absolutely love the 700cc Yamaha engines, but I'll stick to the Honda for another season or two.
Definitely always wear gear , most accident happen less then mile from home . So even if your going up street something could happen animals , people , other drivers . Be safe y’all ❤

Yup one of my best friends father just passed away cruising on his Harley at night miles from home, lost control some how and drove into the grass dip off the highway, flew off and died from the impact with gear... RIP Ricky we miss you man. dude was like a father to me
the oil on new tires is to help it release from the mold. so it doesnt stick. but just do a quick burnout or about 25-50 miles scrub them good back and forth
If you go out alone let someone know where you are going and around what time you with be there or be back. That way someone knows if something is wrong.
People just don’t get how freaking fast these bikes are… it’s really indescribable. I’ve been riding 40+ years and my CBR 1000rr scares the shit out of me. With 175 race tuned horses it’s like a fire breathing dragon ready to take flight… My advice gear up, straight up.
That R1 sounds nice. I have a weak spot for the deeper toned sport bikes. I don't want a choppy cougher like a Harley, or a screamer like a GSX. I want a growler.
Just bought a new one after riding 125Cc, and again i bought a 125Cc but no scooter anymore. When I'm finished remodeling our house i hope to get my self the Versys 650. Love your videos, ride safe out there. (Yes i know 125Cc is like a lawnmower, but hey.. gets me to work and back safe, and i enjoy the outdoors with my bikermates with the bigger cc's.
About to start my second season still have my first bike gsxr 600 bought it for $3500 with 22k miles put 3000 miles my first season. Never rode before this bike, definitely agree buy what you’re comfortable with don’t buy bigger just cause it’s what the “cool kids” ride. Get what you can ride!
Biggest thing for me is if you just got your bike endorsement. Don’t jump on litre bike. Don’t even jump on a 600. Start on a 250-400 type of bike. I don’t care how much experience you had on your uncles 250 dirt bike cause it’s unforgiving out here. Learn how to ride a slow bike fast. Hit some twisties and take your time. It’s a lot more fun on a 250 when your giving it balls around the corners rather than soiling your self cause your litre bike wants to stand up in 3rd gear when you wind the throttle back a little too fast.
Sometimes it's hard, but don't ride beyond YOUR ability. Let others do them, you do you. If you're in a wreck, you suffer. No one else. Feelings of sympathy from the bros doesn't fix your bike, pay your bills or drive you to physical therapy. Every time you climb on your bike, you are literally playing with your life. That being said, I love my ZX14R and ride every chance I get. Zooming the twisties, is one of the best of times.
"You are going to drop your bike!" Yep 1980 or 1990 something Suzuki 750 maybe. Who knows i so dont remember. It had like 4 carbs i used to play with. But i remember what happened when i push the front breaks super hard over a panic! I stood up and no breath , walked home told my friend where the bike was at. We picked it up and i never rode again. Until my Uncle put me on his Hyabusa. I was so scared from my teenage years now in my mid 20's. I never ever drive that thing past 75mph. My uncle on his Harley mad , trying to get me to go faster. Nope never did , one time i hit 100 mph and let go. Im so not kidding when i say, only one time. Now im 43 years old and buying an old Ducati 2007 yellow super bike thingy. I drive Big Rigs and i been racing cars since i was 8 years old. Who says you need to start small? What can go wrong? I got this, now which pedal is the other break again? B3cause that front break is a doosy. 😉
Never forget cars can brake/slow down way faster than a bike can. So if there's a car in front of you keep your distance. alot of fatal bike accidents happen when the car in front has to break immediately, leaving the rider with little to no time to react.

Some guys I ride with in the summer, won’t wear all the gear because they complain that it’s too hot. As a professional roofer for my entire life, I can deal with sweating and being hot. I always tell them the way I look at it as you have a choice you can either sweat or bleed…
I’ve risen cruisers and currently ride a cafe racer, but have always wanted to ride a sport bike to collection. Maybe one of these years. Will definitely have to take it easy at first. I know they’re a completely different beast. Enjoying the content Cheers
I've been learning by just sending it 5% more than I did last time just to see how I will react. So far its very easily manageable though im only running a gsxr600. I really dont want to buy a bike already so I've been taking it easy for the most part.
20+ years riding always check your oil, Learn the sound your bikes make so you know when something sounds strange, avoid listening to music. Reason why riding is an aware sport. Lubricate your moving parts. Cables etc.
Talking about beginner bikes, I'm thinking of getting myself a ninja400 and fucking around with the parts as I get better with riding so I can squeeze more power out of it as I desire. Learn to work on my own bike as I learn to ride and also possibly build a track missile as I go. Or just a beginner friendly squid mobile.
Love the videos as usual, I love the information you give to the new riders. I can understand why buying a less horsepower bike to learn but remember your videos are seen worldwide so for me saying that I live in the Caribbean and money might be a bit of a challenge, meaning (1 us dollar is 6 or 7 dollars in my country) ,here you have to buy the bike or car you want and learn with that because it's really expensive for us here, give jack his jacket when great advice is given, here's a small example for you, here a used bike in good condition may sell for between $60's to $70's and it still has problems to deal with, then if you want to upgrade to a better bike you won't get the price you might want even though the extra cost you spent. So here we buy the bike you want and learn on it,again great video as usual and keep it coming. @@slick-sloth-Smith Yeah he ended up getting prosthetics & has been good for a while now I think. . It happened back in I think 2015 or 2016..But much appreciated bro. But indeed your right, “it’s all fun an games until somebody gets hurt.” Just gotta remain aware & respect the bike at all cost.💯 I gotta channel to that I’m somewhat trying to growing, maybe one day check me out sometime if you ever get a chance man! -Stay aware🙏🏽

Best advice would have to be, learn how to stop your bike properly long before you test your limits with speed.. if you cant properly slow yourself or stop in a hurry then you shouldnt be smashing the throttle
The best defense on a bike is a good offense. Remain a step ahead. No blind spots and think for others, cause they are not thinking about you. Trying to stay at or below the speed limit because daily car driving teaches you that, will get you in a sandwich situation, or dead. People in cars dont respect how squishy you are and they plain dont see you. Being a step ahead is also not allowing cars to surround you. Even if it means going over the speed limit some till you have a good space to yourself when cruising. Or.. a lot if you are experienced. ;)
