Interesting points about "creepy" Hannover. Two extras could be included. One: on the Ballhof, where you showed the Hitler Jugend Haus, when you walk to the waterfontain with the three globes and look towards the Kreuz Church, you will see the Kreuzstraße...this is the only street in entire Hannover which looks just like it did in 1944 before the city was bombed in WW II. Two: at the trial of Fritz Haarmann in 1924 for the first time in Europe a psychological Report (Gutachten) was presented as evidence. A critical essay about the trial was written by the famous Theodore Lessing. This was one of the first critial observation of a criminal case, which led to a more objective justice system in Germany.
The myth that Haarmann sold the flesh of his victims is kept alive by a song, a parody on a then well-known number from the light opera "Marietta" by Walter and Willi Kollo. While the original lyrics is about blue violets ("Veilchen") and the luck of a happy love affair coming to you the parody says that it will just be a small while ("Weilchen") that Haarmann will come to you, with his little cleaver ("Beilchen") and turn you into minced meat.
I have no idea what the two Kollos thought about that song that circulated like mad through the country. Hardly anybody knows about their light opera anymore, but should it be performed on stage today people will probably start giggling as soon as the familiar tune of the "Haarmann song" starts.
I did not know about the calculator!! But I know quite a bit about old Fritz...ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-emQw8YJcDcg.html however spending a few days researching all that I could really made me depressed. I loved making that video but hated it at the same time
