Perfect, perfect, perfect topic. Just this morning I told my hubby that I was about to give up on the brick wall of my paternal great grandfather and maternal great grandmother that I have been working on for years.

Today's video doesn't really tackle brick walls. It's more about how to get your genealogy mojo back. Regarding your brick wall, I suggest setting it aside rather than giving up. Work on a different project for a while and then return to the couple you mentioned in a year or so. Fresh eyes are often better, especially if you spend some time on a different part of your family tree. Additionally, new records come to light and might be the ones you're looking for to solve your research question.

Thanks for your idea on how to manage balance all I want to do. It's ALWAYS been a problem for me.

I'm glad I watched this one again. I'm making notes I should have made the first time including The Genealogy Serenity Prayer . AND this reminds me of a thought I had the first time. "Devon, we want to see you in your Catwoman outfit, please!"

Let me get back in shape and I'll post it. I don't fit in it right now.

I have work out on each of the ancestors that I have been working on. That way, when I feel crazy about Joseph Beyer, I can put him down. I have zero on him and he makes me nuts so I go over to my newly- found Hogans who make me feel joyful.

Yep. Switching between lines can be extremely helpful when lines get stuck.

All really good advice. I think one of the things that dictates my interest in a topic is my association with others concerning it and my assistance or collaboration with them seems to be a primary factor in what I am pursuing at the time. However I also suffer from seizures and they have affected my memory to the point that a month might go by and I might realize that I have not been active with a particular project because I had completely forgot about it. I was keeping separate spiral notebooks for separate genealogy projects and that was working for awhile but I was having more problems writing that many notes so I decided it was easier to type them up in a Word document. Or if I am having more success that can also dictate where I like to stay. Currently that is overwhelmingly in Italian research. Other than genealogy I also have my own music and Italian language studies that I try to keep up with in my spare time. Not sure how to keep them all in equal focus. Again the participation, collaboration or interest of others usually dictates a lot of that. I will be appearing online in an interview next month so I need to prepare for that (Italian genealogy research) so for the present that will take priority over some other projects. Yes, it is a difficult thing to figure out sometimes. I guess each of us probably has different methods of dealing with it or some of us just don't or don't all the time. I don't really think it's necessarily etched in stone. At least it isn't for me. ;-)

My research style is working on multiple projects at once. I can't seem to make myself focus on one thing at a time. This came in handy in my work life. But, I sure wish I was more consistently organized.

I tend not to fight my nature. Andy can work on multiple projects at once. Perhaps the key is to limit yourself to only a few at once and keep a tracker of some sort so you know where you left off on each one. Research Plans are great ones for research projects. Spreadsheets are great for projects like writing a book or making a video.

This was a fun video, and I can relate to the hyper focused style! LOL. I do keep a list of research questions for when I get off track but that’s about it. Currently, I am struggling with how to find an ancestor of my husband's who was a mariner and died in 1886 in Nova Scotia, during a period when the province was not registering death records. He may have died at sea. We cannot find any reference to his death, but the family knowledge is that the year is correct and it fits with the story. Maybe newspapers would be my next place to look?

I would seek out newspapers, land transfers, and probate records as the next logical place to search.

@@FamilyHistoryFanatics Thank you! I was also inspired by your channel to look into doing my genealogy properly with a research log and documentation. So I am on a self-teaching campaign using available internet resources to learn how. Already, in just one day of using the research log, I have seen the benefits and found 9 documents for another ancestor I would not have found otherwise. The research log is keeping me on task and more focused. Thanks for your inspiration!

I just found out that my father is not my father. My parents are deceased. I have no idea who he is. All I know is that he is Jewish. My other father and siblings are Finnish and Swedish. . But I am 25% Jewish. No Finnish or Swedish.

Okay. Then, you should follow the research strageties explained in this video series even though it's targeted as known adoptees, you're research process would follow the same path as theirs. Genealogy for Adoptees ru-vid.com/group/PLcVx-GSCjcdk1GsAs9NfLWKvACcjE3Afg

I am so sorry that you're going through this, Glenda. I have been there, too. I was 53 years old (now 57) when I found out that my daddy was not my father. It was one of the most difficult periods in my entire life. I pray that you will be able to find out who he is or was and soon. Where did you have your DNA tested?

My mother is in the same position after a dna match revealed her father was not her father. All parties have passed on. My second cousin who led the research for this branch of the family passed away last May. My research dead ended with her passing. My heart goes out to you.
