My grandmother signed a contract to "loggers" Who paid for 17 trees. On the first half of the day they have already taken 12 out and have ruined the woods. They are only 2 acres in out of 40.
Cannot stress how important it is to hire your own forestry consultant. We have used the same guy for almost 40 years. Not only has he guided us in forest management, he has gotten us hooked up with NRCS programs for timber stand improvement which have greatly increased the value of our trees and put a few extra bucks in our pockets. He works with the mills and their loggers to make sure there are no surprises during any timber cutting. Every tree is marked at breast height and at the ground to verify the selected cut. And don't think you need a hundred acres of trees, our guy works on plots of a few acres up to 500 acres.
I just had my timber cruised ,by a consultant , I spent nearly every day with him and we marked 2,011 trees , of my choice and his 18" abh and nothing below , he then put that out to several mills , I now have a second guy coming in with offers to see how they all compare
