Since beginning my career as an ESL teacher, I felt that my Yorkshire accent began slipping away from me little by little. I reconnected with it in this little video.

Not every Yorkshireman says toneet that’s more Barnsley in South Yorkshire however if you live in Doncaster (also in South Yorkshire) like me you’ll notice we say tonight or it goes more like “t’night” I’m actually from Pontefract in West Yorkshire but grew up in Donny

We use 'n'all' a lot in the Gloucestershire accent, we also use the word 'mind' at the end of nearly every sentence, and I have heard it a lot on Emmerdale, any ideas what that 'mind' is all about and where it came from, mind?

Listenin' to thee, fair cheered missen oop. I'm in Cornwall now and when I stray into "Yorkshire" dialect it is often confusing to the locals. I asked for a coke in the local pub and was asked why I wanted a cork?

@@JoeMilneEnglish Cheers to you too. Well, mine is not so strong, and wi'me teaching a technical subject, it has moved more to a kind of "Yorkshirist RP", but my Dads' was reight strong and it brings back many happy memories when I'm reminded of his voice and pronunciation.

So, instead of "anything" and "nothing," they say "aught" and "naught" in northern England? I wonder if they also do that in the Borders region of Scotland.

Joe are you still at TutorABC, I've been teaching for iTutorGroup for nearly half a decade. Last year they suddenly decided to force me to sign a new contract with a base pay cut and a new bonus scheme which reduced my pay by almost 40%. My ratings were over 9.6 after teaching over 7000 lessons. I hesitated to sign the contract, they reduced my number of bookings, I then hesitantly signed the new contract, nothing changed in my bookings. Out of the blue, they sent me an e-mail saying they will not be renewing my contract and now my account has been deactivated. I had given so much to this company and I find the way they treated me extremely unfair. If you are still at TutorABC could you at least share what is going on?
