Geoff and Steve arrive at the famous 63,000 year-old meteorite crater near Odessa, Texas with a dazzling array of the very latest hunting equipment: ground penetrating radar, a military bomb detector, and the mighty Rockhound - a go-anywhere amphibious tracked ride that gives new meaning to the phrase "all terrain vehicle." Braving temperatures in excess of 105 degrees, the guys use every trick and tactic in their search for space rocks, and stumble upon a most surprising discovery.

For thousands of years, meteorites have slammed into the Earth's surface carrying an invaluable record of the origins of our solar system. But finding meteorites on Earth, some buried over centuries by thick layers of dirt and sediment, is no easy task.
Meteorite hunters Steve Arnold and Geoff Notkin travel to some of the most remote locations around the world to explore the scientific and financial value of meteorites. Featuring treks in Chile, Sweden, Australia, the US, Mexico, and more, these meteorite men meet with top scientists, geologists, astronomers, and meteorite experts to reveal a deeper understanding of how meteorites have helped to build our solar system and shape our planet.

I convinced a friend to come with me out to a dry lake bed to search for meteorites. It would be an absolute dream to find one!! This is my first time hunting. I don't know how many people have been out to that particular lake bed, but I have high hopes that I'll find one they missed. :) We're leaving in a few days. I'm super excited to go! If I find one, I don't think I'd be able to give it up beyond getting it tested. I have a couple of campo nuggets. Knowing they came from space before our planet was even formed, when we were all energy existing somewhere else before we were like, "Wake up, babe, new planet dropped," is just so cool!

I happen to be from Odessa,Tx and I used to go to a windmill and water tank that me and my friends would go swimming, unfortunately that was about the only water around .So as another past time in my childhood we would go rabbit hunting auto there and we frequently would ponder around Meteor Crater and it was as dead as the trees and non existent grass out there . However I always thought it was just something that was made up to make Odessa seem exciting but now I am a bit more excited but it's still not a place a want to live again , It's just desert hot dry windy dusty desalinate area. The good old Permian Basin ,lots of oil and gas though and home of the world famous Permian Basin Oil Show

Wasn't there a person with the last name of Garvey with an interest in meteorites that was also involved in Fentanyl manufacturing In Kansas? The authoritiea traced the operation back to Kansas initally by analyzing the reports of overdoses. Kansas had so few back then that just one report Showed up as a spike in the data.this was in the days before medical secrecy was a big thing. Back then the insurance companies would mine medical data to project and determine the cost of a hospital aquisiton they were quite frustrated by Kansas Because the Database formats were all different in the medical fields and mining was difficult not long afterwards. Hippa security was imposed. So now for a flu shot you have to sign a release that gives away all your data. Just another example of how we are all bought and sold in Meat space on a daily basis. This is how conspiracy theories get started The Truth is stranger than fiction and Those objects in your rearview mirror really are closer than they appear.

My great grandfather plow up a meteorite when he was young using a mule in those days. He used it to hold a door open. He gave it to me in 1964 his age was 92 back then it is about 12" long and 5" wide rounded edges full of round pits with what appears to be like tiny crystals mixed in the meteorite. I never seen a meteorite this large and the field it was plow up in was miles from anything but a horse trail. Today a subdivision covers the area so searching for more pieces is a bust. North Georgia area isn't known for space rocks more known for White Lighting/mountain dew...lol.

Been there a few times A dude used convicts to dig shaft in the middle of it years ago Looks a lot like a caleche pit to me. No , I said no pieces have ever been found Just a not so defined ridge exist on the west side. When I was there there was only a small hut to show where the crater is. You just walked in. This was in 1960s No nada zip none Did they even mention the deep shaft dug by convicts? I understand the site has been upgraded several times FOR TOURISM, because oil business has its ups and downs There is no telling how many metal detectors have been ran over this whole area. Might find all kinds of oil field scrape iron, firearm shells, even ranch trash from the early 1900s

I would be happy to find 8:54 even a small meteorite. And after I found it, I would hate to be in an economic position that made me sell it. While I'm alive, I've have a great display and conversation-starter, and after I die, it still has value. A meteorite is an ideal heirloom to pass on.
