HERE ARE SOME COMMON CONSEQUENCE OF DAMAGE TO THE FACIAL NERVE ( CN VII) 1; FACIAL WEAKKNESS OR PARALYSIS; one of the most characteristic symptoms is weakness or paralysis of the muscle on one side of the face, this can causes drooping of the mouth, inability to close the eye fully, and difficulty with facial expression . 2; LOSS OF TASTE; the facial nerve carries taste sensation from the anterior two thirds of the tongue. damage to the nerve can lead to a decreased or altered sense of taste on the affected side. 3; DECREASED TEAR PRODUCTION ; the facial nerve controls the lacrimal gland, which produced tears, damage to the nerve can result in reduced tear produced on the affected side, leading to dryness and potential eye discomfort . 4; INABILITY TO CLOSE THE EYE; facial nerve controls the muscle involved in eyelid closure. damage to the nerve can result in difficulty or inability to fully close the eye on the affected side, leading to potential corneal exposure and damage 5; FACIAL TWITCHING OR SPASMS; damage to the facial nerve can lead to involuntary twitching or spasms, ( hemifacial spasm) of the facial muscle on the affected side 6; Bell's PALSY ; Bell's palsy is a condition characterized by sudden onset of facial paralysis or weakness , typically affecting one side of the face, it is often caused by inflammation or compression of the facial nerve, leading to temporary paralysis. 7; HYPERACUSIS; is an increased sensitivity to sound, damage to the facial nerve can affect the function of the stapedius muscle in the middle ear, leading to heightened sensitivity to loud noises.
