Today was the last day in steam for 6023 King Edward II on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway before she's off to The Dartmouth Steam Railway (formerly known as the Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway) for working in the summer months. The engine has proved to be very popular to the general public ranging from passengers to linesiders during her short foray on the railway.
I decided to try and catch the Blue King as much as I could during the day. Today was a purple timetable and the King was hauling Train 2 and 7820 Dinmore Manor was hauling Train 1. The weather at the start was cloudy but then the clouds broke and we had a long spell of hot, humid and sunny weather which tested me during the whole day. I managed to get 4 shots of the King and 2 from the Manor, unfortunately later in the day, my external mic wouldn’t work and tried numerous ways to make it work but came to nothing, so the last shot was sounded by my internal mic rather than my external mic.
Here are the shots included:
- 6023 crossing Stanway Viaduct with first train to Broadway
- 7820 storming out of Gotherington
- 6023 roars away from Cheltenham Racecourse (Lineside Pass)
- 6023 leaving Winchcombe (Lineside Pass)
- 7820 crosses the road bridge out of Gotherington
- 6023 makes her last run out of Cheltenham at Southam
