I’d recommend checking the solenoid pack. When the solenoids start to go out it’ll make the trans shift funny leading to excessive wear.

It was definitely a failing converter. The funny shifting wad caused by metal debris in the valve body.

At 133k my 2015 62TE, most of the time, it started to shift hard into drive when it was cold, and wouldn't do it when warmed up. We've only had it for about 4 months and as far as I know, the fluid has never been changed. Carfax doesn't show any fluid changes either. I decided to drop the pan and saw a lot of big metal slivers on the magnet and found a chunk of metal. Put new fluid in and it was fine(ish) for a little while. The wife and I went on a trip of about 8 hours total and the check engine light came on about 45 minutes on the way back home. I didn't have a scanner at the time either so, I did the 3 ignition key turn trick and it popped up P0740....So I knew it was time for a rebuild.

The dealership has a new firmware flash update to improve shift quality. It costs an hour labor at the dealership.

Where could I find the details about what exactly is in the update?

mine just likes to lock/unlock/lock/unlock over and over(in 6th) till it gets mad about it and limp modes me(even at 80MPH) Limp mode puts it into 3rd gear.... not good when going highway speeds. Ive tried everything and I think its the TC/lockup clutch as well. Mine is only 85k miles though. 2013 journey.

If you had a scan tool you could see if the computer is actually unlocking it or if the torque converter is failing.

No codes can be thrown and a faulty solenoid valve could be the cause. There’s plenty of videos showing the diagnostic process.

What would explain the clutch material in the pan?

@@Bbernhardsr normal wear. if you change fluid drive 500-5000 and find the same magnitude of debris then yes failing converter

@@Bbernhardsr yeah im surprised mopar still makes these brand new. no reason not to purchase reman parts for this job. shut off eco. change your fluid count on another 150k.

@@pearlrival3124 it is funny that you said shut off eco because I was wondering how much that added wear to the transmission. It seems that eco mode really lugs and bogs down the transmission.
