That lil sucker came out very nice! I have a nasty habit of picking up native flakes while arrowhead hunting, LOL. Especially flakes that have some size or nice color to them. Gonna have to try this! Thanks for another great video!!
Mr crafty is on another planet when it comes making these amazing pieces of functional deadly art !! he is one of the few MASTER NAPPERS !!! out there .
I have a BUNCH of thin little fakes and didn’t know if I could actually make a nice point with flake scars all the way across but you absolutely nailed it in this video, thank you for sharing with us, I’ll have to try this
As far a I know, there's no proof that shark teeth were used for arrowheads but I'm sure they were. There is proof that they were used for barbs on war clubs and fishing spears.
Those lil guys sure are hard to hold on to I have issues holding them with my large hands but I love the way this turned out very nice point I have been having issues thinning my points I just knapping again after twenty plus years and seem to have forgotten how to run a good thinning flake lol
Yep, forgetting how to run those good flakes happens to me too and it doesn't take 20 years... more like 20 days. And I use to have trouble holding on to these small ones until I stopped using really tough stone. I only knap the best stuff when I make the small ones.
It's amazing to me how perfect it came out. Is using a metal tool considered cheating? Did you ever try putting one of these tips in an arrow and shooting it?
Nice video. I like the close up work. No commentary is fine when you have a good camera. I've watched a lot of your vids and this is some good video coverage of what you are doing. Thank you.
beautiful, one day if i practice enough i might be as good as you maybe even better but thats highly unlikely its most likely as good or not as good i doubt i could surpass your amazing skills, if you do any hunting and still have that arrowhead id like to see a video of you shootin somethin with it if not thats fine i just wanna see how effective one of those would be since i heard small points can kill but i havent seen anything that small get shot yet. atleast you should try shooting a practice target to show off the penetration
Yes, that's aluminum. And I do prefer aluminum because of its cost. Copper is very effective and I will use it for "showy" or precise flaking sometimes.
So you basically use the same tools in antler than aluminium? Meaning the diameter of the tips and the "nails"... I will like to stick with the ancient tools, but I have a problem in finding good quality and affordable deer antlers, also, they last shorter, specially if you use tiny tools! Great video, by the way!
Metal tools were not available to the Indian Tribes to help them shape their arrow heads historically. I imagine they could not produce as finely detailed finished arrowhead as you did in this demonstration.?
In the historic period, after contact with Europeans and others, metal tools were available to Indians who chose to continue producing stone points. In the prehistoric period, native copper was available to a large number of Indians and was used for things like beads, awls, ceremonial masks, axe heads, and many other items. But regardless, I will show in future videos that metal is not needed for such detail.
