In this video we check out and begin to repair an EICO 628 emissions tester. In the process of finding issues, we also describe the interpretation of the chart settings for different tubes. There may be a Part II video once some additional parts arrive. Additional information can be found at
* EICO 628 manual, bama.edebris.co...
* RCA tube manual, archive.org/de...
* Updated 625 charts, bama.edebris.co...
* ARF thread on the bulbs, www.antiqueradi...
* Some additional technical information, tubesound.com/...
* All about neon lamps, w5jgv.com/downl...

I have the Eico 625 and would like to replace: miniature bulb (Part#2 /symbol B3 / #42 OVERLOAD) + miniature bulb (Part#3 / symbol B4 / NE-51 SHORT IND.) Someone knows what are the values needed and where I can find these bulbs? Thanks

Bardzo ciekawe rozwiązane z kodowaniem lamp na zwijanej taśmie w mierniku. Bardzo mi się to podoba. Ładny miernik . Pozdrawiam

Uhhh I got lost somewhere around Albuquerque. I’m sorry, normally I like your videos, but You narrative is so choppy and broken it’s hard to stay with you. My apologies for not sticking with you.

Exactly my problem - I loose focus between the huge pauses between words.

Hi, Very very very good video, you have done a great job in the presentation. Very professional, I have an Eico 625 that I continue to use, in radio restorations, and I must say this video has cleared up a lot of things that I did not understand... Thank you kindly for making this video for us... have a great day....

Hi. Great vid. I have one of these and going thru the manual in the maintenance section it states that at power off the meter should be centered. If not to adjust the front screw until it does. That seems like, wrong. Any idea? Thanks.

Thank you so much for this video I am restoring Eico now and has made a lot of sense to what I have been doing I have made a new roller chart and have been rebuilding the Meic as old one was falling apart and ripped the old chart I will be doing a full check tomorrow and voltages to and try a valve one day

Those rolling charts are really confusing due to all the errors in them.

Very impressed that you would take the time and make the effort to create this video. Thanks so much. I also have an Eico 628, and I may be able to aid in the homebuilt-or-factory question without even opening it. My 628 tube sockets are riveted in with factory rivets and yours are put in with machine screws. I betcha that means mine was factory built. Do you know if Eico published an addendum to the chart? I ask this because I would like to test a couple KT88's. Again, thanks so much!!

Excellent video. One comment: Term IC quite often really means internally connected. So it does not necessarily mean not connected (NC). For example pin 1 of EL84 tube is in many old tubes connected internally to pin 2, i.e. grid 1. It sure then is internally connected and the pin 1 of the tube socket cannot be used for example a connection point for screen series resistor etc. In many later manufactured tubes it is not connected at all and then the pin 1 of the tube socket can be used as a extra connection point.

The EICO 628 tests every tube as though it was a Diode and only measure current emission which has little to do with the actual value of a tube. A better tube tester is one that measures inverse resistance to Transconductance , the actual gain factor of a tube.

Thanks for this vedio.I am a technician of old TV radios I want to know if a tube is working well or not working. To test the short circuit, leakage and emission.

Explaining the 628 tube tester has become a snake pit. I was able to follow you for sure. I also built my own 625 back in the day, which was the earlier version of the tube tester.

According to the user manual. You are suppose to toggle all 13 switches, one at a time, to each of the three positions and look for short light . Except the ones underlined. Even the ones set to neutral position. all 13 switches.
@BlisterBang

You toggle the switches only up to the number of pins on your tube. If you are testing a seven pin tube, then all the switches above 7 aren't connected to anything. You can toggle them, but there isn't any way that there could be a short with them since they aren't attached to anything inside the tube.

Hi, where did you obtain the chicken head knobs from?
@radiophysicsandelectronics6923
I found them at Antique Electronic Supply. Actually, I ordered ones that were too small (my mistake), but have the proper size on the way.
