She's such a sweet girl and she is in very good hands.🐾💕 I wonder if the Canal Folks (CRT) are trying to bleed as much money out of the 'taxpayers' as they can before they decide to close down the entire network or most of the network of canals. The CRT doesn't understand it's the boaters and volunteers who are the backbone of the canals - not the higher echelon of paid suits. I worry for this world. Once the good things in life are gone, there will be nothing worth squat. And I mean the workers that get things done. Hi Lacy, Mike and Hamish - we also think the ultimate plan is to end movement on the canals and rivers as a leisure and living activity. We think CRT does understand it, but they are doing the will of others, not of their membership. Great song choice from one of our favourite albums, Deja Vu!

I feel sorry for the continuous cruisers that are going to find it difficult to survive on the increased licence charges. It’s sad to see Tilly’s eyesight has declined so much. I’m afraid I’m one of those who live permanently on a narrowboat in a marina. It all came about as I never learnt to steer and my Husband died suddenly last June. I know I should learn but I’m happy in a Marina, not how life should have worked out, but hey, I’m healthy. Enjoy your Winter mooring, it’s only for about 4 months of the year. Sorry to hear about Tilly but she seems happy and still has a good loving life with you.
Hello Wendy - so sad to hear of your loss - it changes everything (we’ve been through it and it certainly changed us). We know lots of friends who stay on the marina year round - it’s important to have a choice and we’re certainly not criticising staying on the marina, it’s just that we love seeing new places too! Hi Carol, Rob, & Tilly: Happy New Year! That's great that you found moorage in Skipton and have all of the amenities close at hand (water, fuel, laundry facilities, etc.), as well as a chandlrey, restaurants, pubs, grocers, etc. It will be fun to vicariously explore Skipton with you during your winter moorage. I'm sure that Tilly will love going on "sniffs" in town and the surrounding area, as well as enjoying doggie treats when available in the local shops. I'm glad they provide "doggles" and the echo-location collar to make things easier for dogs who are visually-impaired. Regarding the increased fees, few people are commenting on the decreased revenues that the CRT will be receiving from the government in 2024 and beyond. Nobody likes increases but considering what the CRT provides and how extensive the canal system is, in Britain, one does get their monies worth. We’re hoping CRT will be able to find other ways of covering the future shortfall that doesn’t hurt poorer boaters who can’t afford to pay for a marina. I agree that they should be independant fro the government, but they knew they were losing funding for over five years now and did nothing to increase revenue for that day coming. Now they want boaters to lobby thier Mp's to preasure government to keep funding them?? High paid positions held by poor business skilled managers. Plus less services for boaters, if they need repairs they simply close them down and do away with them. They removed the dog litter bins on the canals saving hundreds of thousands, where do you think the dog S*** goes now?

Love you guys…. A great vlog as always. Can totally understand why you’re in the marina for winter. I would too. I sympathise with the aches and pains…. I’m there too 😜We’re not on the canal but a river and it’s so unfair that the boaters always get penalised with increased outgoings. So many other people use the waterways and don’t pay a penny towards the upkeep. We were following a person on you tube who canoed the system but refused to pay for a license!!! Needless to say we don’t follow them now! Take care and give Tilly a hug. 💕💕
Seems like boaters should write the CRT and see if they could encourage/reward CC'ers for also being lock volunteers or toe path cleanup etc. by some amount that offsets the inflation. If the users of the network are allowed to demonstrably show that they are putting sweat equity into the system. I'd volunteer to do some chores like that to save money.
The real issue is you cannot charge boaters extra for continuous cruising when you pay for a continuous license in the first place. So the License fee is going up by 10% this year for a continuous crusing License plus! another 5% for continuously cruising? ...It's a boaters choice to stay put and have a home mooring, they never got a reduction for not using the system? CRT have totally got this wrong and will end up in the courts to fight this issue I think. Great vlog what a lovely area you are in :)

Great vlog folks, yep, CRT completely misjudged this one. Many who can afford it will do as you have done but the others will leave the canals. CRT wont make as much money as they are expecting I suspect. Hopefully the marinas wont see an opportunity to hike their prices but greed is rampant in the UK, i fear. On another note, we are considering buying a boat but as Christians too, where to fellowship is a real issue. Another reason to have a home mooring. Blessings guys 🙏

Iv retreated off the cut even more than you and gone back to my house until it's warmer , last night was no fun at nearly -10 at 3am with a broken heating system and then waking up to every window on the boat being frozen over on the inside , also I agree with you while heartedly with crt people iv emailed them and theyv always been very polite and helpful my only issue is how the money is spent and that's a top management issue people who work for the crt I have no issues with their always polite

@@NarrowboatLiberty going back tomorrow as the temperature is getting warmer and I should have the heating fixed soon iv already received the eye watering quote 😂 just waiting for the part to get back and I'm going to have a log burner , diesel heater , and Aircon unit installed over the next few months to have as many fail safes as possible
Like you I sympathise with those fellow boaters who face an increase in costs, however, concerning Continuous Cruisers vis those of us who maintain a home marina mooring may I point out that 10% of all marina fees currently go to the CRT. It could be said that it balances the proposed increase for CC’s to some extent.
Thanks Idle Days - we didn’t know about that 10%, so in a real way, you’re also funding the CRT in addition to your standard licence. I do think CRT is trying to find other income streams, but the people who can least afford increases - the subsistence liveaboard continuous cruisers - are going to be driven off the canals, if we’re not careful, and that’s a tragedy for us all ❤️ Best wishes Rob, Carol and Tilly dog 🐕
Also if you moor in a marina part of the marina fee (usually at least 9%) goes to the CRT. So all the CCer’s are really getting a good deal compared to the rest
