Jayce is probably the best designed champ in the game. The kit is so perfect and it offers everything a good player needs, item variety, playstyle variety, rune selection variety, can engage, can disengage, can poke, can oneshot. You're bad and u pick Jayce? You're going 0 20. You're good and u pick Jayce? You're going 10 2. Doesn't really demolish lane because of his low stats lvl 1 and being forced to buy tear, scales well and has plenty of "counter" picks to deny him taking over the lane and pretty easy to gank and kill if you catch him out of position. I don't know why Pantheon is allowed to be in this state, he's like the down syndrome version of Jayce in terms of skill and just stat checks from lvl 1 to 18. Insanely overpowered.
When I first started league, I asked my friend what champ he thought was the best and his response was Jayce. This was back in S3, and his reply was pretty much the same as yours lol
