Having the ripper mounted to the 3pt instead of a caddy allows for some crazy fast turn-arounds on the ends. Sure, it berms up some soil, but I saw that it smoothed out really nice when he did the headland passes. Probably even saves a round on the headlands due to the tight turns. Nice work, Billy!

It reduces the headland pass to 3 passes down from 8. It gets right to the edge. When they seed wheat and soybeans they make 3 60ft passes on the headlands. This 3pt gets the tractor to the edge leaving three 22ft passes to work out the edges.

The 915 mounted the 1167 is an 11 shank model. They found it was difficult to move on the road become it does not fold. Deere also makes a 13 shank model. The 9, 11 and 13 do not fold so you need lots of room on the road for transport. The farm has found 9 to be as wide as they want to go in transport. The 9 shank in red clay puts this 1167 and the three 9RX 640s to work.

The farm has found good support with John Deere. They trade each year so it makes it easier to trade green. It is a family farm so it is not just up to one person on the line up. Billy has always looked around at machines he likes best beyond color to personally operate. In the years I have known the farm Billy has run for NH3, air drill seeding and tillage a Ford 1156 on triples, an STX450 Quadtrac, 9620T and then an MT865B, MT875B, three MT875Cs and two MT875Es. He found each of these tractors had good advantages. The farm was not John Deere until tbe mid-1980s. John Deere 8850s we’re their first green machines. Their first 4wd was an AC 7580 and they relied on a 7060 and 7080. The AC row crops were replaced by a WFE 2-155 and 2-180. Then everything went green. In the early 1970’s they used IH 1066 tractors. I think the first John Deere on the farm was a Billy’s first 24 row corn planter was a green Kinze in the early 80’s he pulled with an open station 4320. The G and 4320 are still on the farm.

Billy's a beast, even with a huge farm to run he want's to be in the field, is there a reason he doesnt run a Deere when the whole farm is JD.
@bigtractorpower
@bigtractorpower Год назад
It’s always good to visit with Billy. He is in the field every day each season. The farm has always based their equipment choice on a good relationship with their local dealer. For many years the farm was all Allis-Chalmers until AC went under. 45 years ago the primary tractors on the farm were a AC 7580, 7080 and 7060. For a short time they had a WHITE 2-180 and 2-155 tractor. Forty years ago the local John Deere dealer told the farm they would take care of them the way AC dealer had with parts and service and soon the farm had three John Deere 8850s. Billy is always looking for top performance tractors to run himself. In 1991 the farm made a deal to purchase two FORD 1156s and a 976. Billy liked the 1156 so much as the farm went to Deere 8960s, 8970s and 9400s one 1156 stayed. In 2001 the remaining 1156 was traded to a Case IH STX450 QUADTRAC. Billy was highly impressed by the QUADTRAC performance in wet fields. Then the trying to stay all Deere the STX450 was traded in 2003 for a 9620T. At that time row crop tractors and combines were traded each year and 4wds every three years. Today everything is traded each year other than Billys tractor which is still 3 years. Billy and everyone else on the farm were not impressed with the 9620Ts rough ride. In 2006 Billy traded to an MT865B, then an MT875B followed, then three traders to MT875Cs then two traded to MT875Es and now the 1167MT. Billy has liked the AGCO two track tractors. Smooth ride on a 120 inch setting. Over all it works best for the farm to be all Deere for the annual trade program. Each of the 15 primary tractors on farm average nearly 1,000 hours a year.
