You did it: captured one of the highlights of the build with an ideal view. Two nations, building together, sharing cranes on this last spanning. Flags waving with pride. Grats!! TGIF across both countries.

Absolutely FANTASTIC! I must admit to a few goose bumps, shivers up my spine and yes, even the beginnings of a tear or two of pride when I saw the two arms of this beautiful bridge being joined, the two flags fluttering on the last beam and a worker from Canada and one from the US standing on that connecting beam shaking hands. To me that picture represents the friendship and affinity that exists between the grass roots of our two great nations regardless of any individual's political beliefs. I can't wait to drive from Toronto to Windsor just to see it in person and to drive across it.

I have had the pleasure of watching this thing grow. It is on my way to work. From the pillars to the cables. It is a wild thing to witness over a couple of years. Especially the pillars growing. This is an expample of how two great nations can get accomplish great things!

Smart engineering. Connect both sides with girders. Put a level in the middle, cinch up either side 3:55 and presto! Perfectly straight connection!!

For people concerned about whether enough Canadian or U.S. workers built the bridge. Bridges of this type and size takes some unique workers. We don't see bridges of this style and size going up every day. So workers from all over the world are required. Better to have the right workers. Than just hiring workers from a limited pool of employees.

When that crew is done with that bridge could you send them to the Merriman bridge over Hines Drive. They need a little help as that bridge is taking longer than the Gordie Howe bridge.
@michaelpjeffries1521
@michaelpjeffries1521 3 месяца назад
I do not believe they are a regular road crew, slapping a bridge together. Who move on to next project as a team once completed. It was monumental effort to build international bridge. Needed for a long time, specially when truckers were protesting delays, as it was being built to ease congestion at the border. Required a crown corporation to make it happen. Sorry for the frustration, that is speed of progress.

@@michaelpjeffries1521 It was a joke. They're taking longer to build the Merriman overpass over Hines than it's taking to build the GH bridge.

As I recall the deal was U.S. Feds 25% Canadian Feds 50%. Michigan 25%. Michigan Governor began playing games, stalling etc endangering the whole deal. The Canadian Feds stepped in and picked up Michigan's piece and the deal went ahead with Canadian Feds 75%, US Feds 25%.
