GB Railfreight Class 69 No 69004 arriving into Melton Mowbray on 20th September 2024 and then being named at the Asfordby hub of Network Rail's RIDC (Rail Innovation & Development Centre) facility two days later. The naming was undertaken by GB Railfreight RIDC employees Jack Arthur Straw and Lee Copes. Interestingly, it is believed to be the first visit of a Class 69 to the test track.
69004 was converted from BREL Doncaster-built Class 56 No 56069 at EMD's Longport site and entered traffic in February 2022. The apt British Rail 'research' livery was selected to help celebrate GB Railfreight's role in operating the RIDC, something which they have done since March 2021.
