Thank you for showing the finished weld. There are those on here that like to talk about how to do it but never show a close up on the work when it’s done. Nice job welding and nice job on the video.
just in time! that pro tip when doing the fill & cap with 7018 is exactly what we are facing, our instructor told us that we should always point our rod at the center of the pipe, but as we do that the bottom weld with the 7018 always sags, no matter how fast we do our travel, thanks for that!
ISO 9606-1 weld tests allow the use of a grinder on the root string only. I don't know how it works job to job but the International test allows the grinder regardless of what the tester says. Know your rights guys, it can make a difference. Some great tips as usual Jody, they make the videos very rewatchable (depending on where a fella is on the learning curve)...and Andrew is a Jedi level pipe welder. Thank you.
I welded miles and miles of pipeline back when I was a youngster. One job I was on in New Mexico I burned probably several tons of rod . We were welding a pipe that was 90 feet across and 3 inches thick. It was a mine shaft that went 600 feet into the ground. Quite an interesting job that was. Most of the welders were burning 1/8 rod and would take 12 hours or more to do an 8 foot section. I would burn 1/4 inch rod and do 4 - 8 foot sections in my 12 hour shift. All the welders hated me but the boss paid me 4 times what he paid the other welders. So I didn't care what they thought. We were getting paid by the hour but I knew the man that had the contract and he took good care of me. Fun, fun, fun.....
good morning teacher! you are very good at coated electrode. I'm from Brasil-MT, the welding technology is exceptional. Very good my congratulations ...
Hi Jody, from the age of 15 starting my apprenticeship only allowed to use hammer and chisel to cut back for root … as I progressed worked with a journey man who also taught me not to use the grinder very much as he always said we get paid for putting metal in not taking it out … we were on piece work then … the good old days 🇬🇧👍 Sorry forgot to say the weld looked very good smooth operator that’s what we get paid for.
6g was always my favorite test it's all positions in one, my welding instructor would always hound me to get comfortable before you start or it'll turn out like sh#!
When I'm doing 6g with 6010, I always have undercut on the top of the bevel in a few areas. Rod angle is my issue but everytime I try to adjust my angle I still have the same issue if not something else like a crater or something like that. I run my amps at around 65-70 1/8th land and gap. Anyone have advice to help? Thank you
I wanna comment about pancake weared by Andrew is pretty cool is blocking shine light from the sun, i usually wear the commun welding hood helmet every time i call my helper to come to close the shining 🌟 light because i don't see any things sometimes happen 😔
I wish my weld puddle was that smooth this week! Currently welding tube’s and square’s in Swiss outside on a parkinglot with conarc elektrodes and basic machine, sticks barely start or get stuck, cuts out everttime 😭😂
Remplissage passes étroites est plus mécanique car moins de tension dans la soudure. Finition en passe large, ci le soudeur est habile c'est aussi une bonne façon mais attention aux souflures, moins bons mécaniquement ❤ Bonne information. Merci ❤
Jody, I've got one for you. 1/8" 6013 vs 7014, AC, for us wantabes. How they compare for the most bead length pound for pound-dollar per dollar. For our simple projects. "Thanks"!
Bought 6010 rod flux color is red. I only need 40 amp to weld 1/8 inches steel. And 50 amp to weld 1/4 inches steel. Any higher amp than that will burn through. Not sure if it's the rod or me. I was told I need 75 amp for 1/8 inches and 90 amp for 1/4?
Hey man loved the video. I have a question for you. I'm 14 years old living in UK and I do blacksmithing and welding jobs. I want to start practicing open root in 3g and eventually pipe. But my little inverter can't run 6010. 6010 rated machines here cost at least 4 grand. My question is can I use a 6011 for open root joints like pipe and all that? Thanks for the help
Hey brother I hope I’m not too late to help you. The short answer is yes you can run a root pass with 6011, the slag will be more difficult to get off and the arc won’t be as stable, it will however work.
Great video i beem practice pipe in my garage cus school to expansive. I have gotten better even on my tig. Im not a pipe welder. I just want to learn the process
Hello all. I am an electric welder for 6g pipes, ten years ago from Egypt. I would like to work abroad. We do not differ in wages according to your evaluation. Thank you.
105 with the 1/8 7018? Seems kinda cold I’d be worried about leaving slag or a hollow head especially if after you grind your root it’s narrow. Any thoughts?
I didnt try to used 6010..we always used 7010 and 7018. In pipeline in saudi arabia...and we used miller and lincoln welding machine i remember when i was trainee same like that..
The testing here in the u.k. is different, I'm doing this test but I carnt do a 6010 root and E7018 fill and cap as they are saying I need to do it 8n 6013, E7018 and 6010 so that's 3 separate tests because they all cover different ranges. Is this right?
Different countries vary. In USA we have AWS, ASME,and API nad more and they all differ. Plus a company has some say in it too as long as they comply with minimum standards
@weldingtipsandtricks thanks jody, it's iso 9606-1 over in the u.k. and by the chart and qualification range I'm going to have to do the 6G test with 6013, 7018 and 6010. £800 per test so not ideal. Any advice on the 6010 electrode?
I'll be starting school in Daytona, FL in the fall for welding. Someone told me about your channel. I'd like to find some videos on beginners and what to expect.
Well I dont have any videos like that yet..but I would say expect to be by yourself for hours at a time welding. expect to be frustrated sometimes but just know that its normal not to make progress every single day. sometimes its 2 steps forward one step back...but overall you are still making progress. pay attention, learn the fundamentals, make sound welds first, then make them pretty. good luck
I was surprised at the 105 amp setting for the 1/8 7018, I was curious if that was done to avoid the potential of burning through the root pass and also reducing the buildup for that pass or does that machine tend to run rods hot for the setting ?
when i test in the phillipines the welding mask doeisnt automatic thats why always have arc strike to the test pipe..saupose to be..doing testing must be have some provide automatic welding mask
