Pluses for the 6Gt.1. Higher velocity, if you want it. It still feeds from a magazine better than the Dasher and BR. It can use a wider variety of powders, A larger range of bullet weights and shapes. It is arguably easier to tune than a 6.5/6X47, 6Br etc. including a 6/6,5 Creedmoor. And, it still allows you to track trace and stay in the scope for missed follow-ups. Oh, and now its available as factory assembled Match rounds with a new 109gr ELD from Hornady, and from Clay's Cartridge Company with Hornady brass and Berger 105gr Hybrid.. All that being said the Dasher and BR are awesome cartridges. Oh, almost forgot, the 6GT's longer neck improves bullet seating stability especially when stretching out seating depth closer to the lands. Nuf said

I run a proof 6 gt comp contour on a defiance ruckus action! It shoots lights out! It’s extremely accurate! Watch the interview with George Gardner , they came up with it , out of warranty issues on his dasher builds.. One nice thing, is you can take all your burned out dasher barrel s and rechamber in 6gt!

My reason for the go to of the GT comes into component versatility to run it… more powder selection to get the same performance and speeds as Dasher or BR. Now a days it harder to get your go to powder. I’ve ran Varget, H4350, N140, N150, H4895 and more

Thanks so much for all the time and effort you put into your videos. I have been shooting rimfire for some time but years ago did a lot of gunsmithing shot long range for sniper training and deployment. I suffered a significant spinal injury, rehab took some time but when I could I started shooting rimfire and enjoy that. my rifles and reloading equipment had been sold while I was recovering so I’ve got lots to buy and not much of a budget. Fortunately my lathe and tools remain and I’ve continued to build rifles for friends and people I had done work for prior to my injury. I have had to give up hunting and some days just keeping up with things is a challenge to keep going but I find myself wanting to shoot longer distances again and have, of course built some of the light recoiling, flat shooting rifles for my customers. I have been looking at the sea of 6mm offerings and struggling with what to build. Not much money and lots to buy. I’ve got a good press and a few odd things from a friend but that’s about it. What you said makes sense, the less I need to fiddle with forming brass, not shooting hot is great for me physically. They tell me I’ll continue to get less mobile and might not have a lot of time, but I hate giving up and shooting has been my sport since I was a boy and I’d really like to get out and enjoy the time I have. It’s hard to believe how much things have progressed. I’m sorry for the long winded comment, I know you’re busy but any advice and assistance you could provide would be so appreciated!

The 6XC needs some love ;) I was thinking dasher or GT but brass cost is a factor. I could have gone 6 creed, but imo the XC tunes easier with the same powders, and $82 per 100 pieces of peterson brass from David Tubb is a game changer for me.

I went with a custom barrel in 243win, for the simple fact it's the most popular 6mm cartridge in existence. Getting factory ammo for the empty brass wouldn't be an issue, if my supply of Lapua & Hornady brass dried up.

I just made my mom a sweet little single shot 243 and I have to say, I have to agree. I am not looking to compete or anything, but I very much like the idea of 243 AI in a 26 inch, 1:7 twist barrel. I need to talk to my gunsmith to make sure I can set up the throat to work well with the Hornady 110 grain A-tip and Berger Elite Hunter 108 Grain and still be able to go down to some 70 grain factory loads or any factory loads in general. In my head at least, this is a sweet potential rifle set up.

I’m not a competition shooter. But used to shoot gophers out to 300 and a bit with my 6mm Remington in a model 700 varmint barrel. With 105 gr speer spitzer bullets I have recently put it a MDT chassis. Updated to FFP 34 mil tube scope And I am ringing steel out to 750. Not saying that the Br or Dasher or GT are not great choices. But the old 6mm Remington is still a very accurate cartridge. Thanks for letting me ramble. Lol Cheers
@ExpatriotSilencers
@ExpatriotSilencers 3 месяца назад
The 6mm Rem is a very large case for gophers. Burning all that powder heats up the barrel and will burn the throat. 6BR is a WAY better choice. You are shooting a case and bullet really meant for long range at pretty short range. There are much better options. A bullet like the 70gr Max or Ballistic Tip would be much better. I started out shooting gophers with a 243. The 6BR with a lighter varmint bullet would be a better choice..

Technically, your rifle was actually having an extraction/ejection issue as a result of the scope mount interference, rather than a feeding issue. Also, both of these 6mm rounds are redundant; the 6mm BR has been winning competitions for years.
@Blair338RUM
@Blair338RUM Год назад
The BR family will ALWAYS have feeding problems. The 6mm GT sounds great but I shoot a 6mm HOT ( 6mm/6.5X47 ) and the accuracy is superb and easy to tune. I’d definitely will go with a 6GT for my next barrel though.
@thejonoaffair
@thejonoaffair 2 года назад
I love all the 6 BR family of cartridges. They're nearly impossible to shoot badly haha. I had a similar ejection problem with my Sako TRG 22 in 6BR. What happened was the case got flung out by the ejection plunger just as it left the chamber, but before it made it back to the ejection port. Such a short case is allowed to almost turn sideways inside such a big, beefy action. Re-barrelling to a 6x47Lap and then an additional switch barrel in .260AI makes for a good all-rounder!

The Gay Tiger round is more tolerant and has more inclusivity when it comes to mags (less modification), and the slightly longer case prevents over-tilting when loading into the chamber- even when cycling the bolt at gay tiger speeds. 🐯⚡💯

I have run a BR and a Dasher and my Dasher is much more accurate, especially out past 600 yards. We shoot out to 1200 yards in our competitions. You would have less case capacity and it may be more difficult to run the 109s in a BR as well.

I 100% agree with the straight 6br. I have been shooting the 6br for many years and have no reason to change. I find chasing the latest and greatest only wastes time and money for me but I am not shooting high level competition either so there is that.
@annahonorata990
@annahonorata990 Год назад
Shooting 6 Dasher at 2750 fps does not make much sense. If you want to shoot 109 Hybrids at 2750, you can go with 6BR. No fireforming, just load Lapua brass out of the box and shoot. Dasher was degined to handle 109-115gr bullets at 2900-3100 speed window.

@@IMPACTSHOOTING yes, you did:). I think you need more velocity than 6BR to tackle the wind at 500+ distances. you can run 30gr of Varget in 6BR at 2840-50 and that's pretty much it. You can go hotter with a compressed load, but then what's the point of not going dasher. It's difficult to accept advice from a girl, but believe me :). been there, done that.

Few weeks ago we shot our season finale. I run gas gun. (6 ARC) After we shot our last stage I wanted to check out some of the others guys' glass. As I'm doing so my friend says "Hey, few rounds in that mag if you want to try a bolt gun". No, I had not shot a open division bolt gun. He has a beautiful rifle chambered in 6GT. I thought sure, why not? Season is done I'll try it. To say I was impressed is a understatement. That open division rifle made 875 yards seem like childsplay. The recoil was light (But then again it is a 20+ lbs rifle), his glass is better than mine, easy to track, it was fantastic. All that said, after next season (2023) I plan on switching to open division but I'm going a totally different route, bolt gun in 6 ARC. I already know the limits of running a 105 and 109 berger with VV N150. (No, there's no load data for that.) With 105's on N150 I'm running at 2614 fps, sd 5 es 25. Slow? Yes. Consistent? Well, way better than factory ammo. Recoil is very light and out of my gasser 1/2 MOA is not a problem. So when I switch to bolt gun I'm sticking with ARC. Nobody makes a smooth action you say? Tuebor Precision in MI does. I'm not looking for screaming velocity. All any of us needs is consistency and accuracy. Is BR a bit faster? Yep. Not enough will be gained for me to spend the money to entirely change out dies etc to switch to anything else.

Recoil. Most shooters switched from 6.5mm to 6mm because of less recoil alone. PRS style shooting is 50% about recoil mitigation. They are timed stages. Being able to see your hits and misses without the target leaving your reticle due to recoil is at least half the game. "Time on target". If you could "effectively" get a 180gr 7mm or 225gr 30cal projectile with a .650bc+ to shoot 2800fps with the recoil of a 6mm......you could knock out half the competition. Some people are trying to "break the mold" by shooting a 7br or 7SAW and even 7saum but they all recoil to much to be quick and effective or cant push the high bc bullets fast enough. PRS is a .224-.257" game these days with most of the top 10 shooting 6mm. I think the .257" bullets MIGHT be the new sweet spot. You could also use those in the NRL hunter series.

I’m running the 109 Bergers out of my 6br @ 2778. Am I trying to push the 109 too fast?

6gt since I can run it in a gas gun without issue when I'm shooting with the gas gun crowd.

I am going GT. If Dasher has loading problems a smaller cartridge would be worse.

A bit off topic, but could you please tell me where you got the Vortex clock or how I could get one? I’ve searched and can’t seem to find them. Thanks!

Ek hoor jou van die voordele vir stadiger skiet. Die probleem kom in vir my by onbekende afstande in veldskiete.
