First phase of the demolition of the first 250 feet of the iconic 6th street viaduct that crossed the US 101 freeway, CALTRANS assisted with this portion of the demolition by coordinating the closing of the freeway for 40 hours. The demolition is scheduled to last for 9 months Thanks to Samer Momani of CALTRANS for this footage and Skanska Construction for the camera position

That bridge was on of my favorite pieces of architecture in Los Angeles. Driving over it you couldn't help but feel like you were in a detective movie.

Though it is sad to see this bridge go, I am impressed with the amount of work they were able to get done in 40 hours. Makes me feel like my tax dollars weren't being wasted.

This was a historic landmark that never should have been demolished. It would be like New York demolishing the Brooklyn Bridge or San Fransisco replacing the Golden Gate or London getting rid of Tower Bridge.

we removed it and replaced it with a more modern version which is pedestrian and bicycle friendly. big good!

I love watching the demolition of a piece of my regional history. This bridge gave Los Angeles its character during a time when Los Angeles’ population was predominately white. I see this as a way of demolishing the image of white Los Angeles. To progress 🍻

Where did they put the debris that fell onto the freeway? I saw no evidence on them trucking it off somewhere. Did they just push it aside?

+Bigbuddyandblue All demolition projects have to conform to environmental rules. This includes the removal and desposition of debris.

So, they can make money period. That aqueduct with no water under it would outlast anything they build now. Tartarian Empire built it long ago.
