When I was a little kid living with my grandmother, her house was less than 80’ from the C&EI tracks. When we heard a train coming we always ran out of the house and over by the tracks and waved. Not only did the engineers wave back, they threw little bags of candy to me and my sister as the trains went tearing past us. Even the guys in the caboose would wave.
Wow!!!!!! Now this is something that very rarely if not happens. This is something so unusual. Train stops and the engineer takes his time to talk with the guy. This is totally awsome. I mean, yea maybe a bus driver would do something like that but it is unheard of for an amtrak train to just stop like that and the engineer comes down to talk with the camera man. That is wow!!!! An awsome engineer.
That is soooooo awesome Brodie!!! You wouldn't believe it, today in Germantown TN I was waiting on 16Z and that same engineer, Phil showed up and we got to talk about trains, and catch 16Z together!! It was awesome, he suggested I watched this video =- ) He's a great guy!
so sad from the days when the depot was still there, I would walk the tracks from the interlocking and spend all afternoon there on a Saturday drinking a coke and watching trains. fond memories of when centralia was much more lively and had more to offer railfans. miss the p30chs and Illinois central, gm&o , southern cigar bands, mo-pac eagles and BN green, those were the days
I noticed whoever putting the amtrak logo on the side of the locomotive forgot tail end of the letter R the letter P was stuck someone forgot recheck there's work.
I know Phil! On our train ride back from New Orleans to Chicago, he got on the train in Carbondale (his base), we met him at Champaign when we got off for a stretch break, and then we walked into Union Station with him! Phil is the best!
I mean it doesn’t matter if the company isn’t American the thing that matters is if the locomotive is built in America or is built in an American type of way.
best job in the world in my opinion i work for union pacific and love this job it can get boring at times but you definitely will meet some interesting people on the rails cool engineer
@@TrainManBrodie started in year 2000 on the tucumcari line in topeka ks as a switch man and also brake man now engineer on the 1-5 corridor as of 2017 driving mostly the sd70 sometimes the es44 out of seattle
Cool video.. where my dad lives here in Australia.. i know a loco drive thru my scout group and he knew where i lived and he always blew hes horn when he came past as the train tracks ran at the back of my dad place.
Why do US engineers horn so long at every railroad crossing? Are they obligated to do so? It's interegsting to me since in EU it is different due to noise regulations, though sometimes would be better to horn more frequently due to the lot of morons near the tracks.
if you goto 48-50 seconds in the video you can see the lettering on the side of the train. The P is actually an R, the leg has peeled off. On the other side of this same loco. the A is also peeling. There are a few videos with this loco showing this. Hope that explains the P
Is this the "Saluki" train out of Carbondale? Perhaps the extra baggage car is for the SIU student's bicycles. The engine looks like it is owned by the Illinois Dept of Transportation.
Those new Chargers definitely have some better get up and go then the P42 Genesis locomotives they are replacing, much quieter too. Hope they turn out to be good locomotives in the long run!
