I would love to see you do some educational stuff on youtube. We have nothing like that being taught around where I am, and I gotta tell you, it's impressive. I don't even know where half your wraps begin and end.
Thanks, I'm glad you like it! =D As far as I know, I'm the first person to be posting a lot of the cradling and contact work - it's pretty experimental and the result of long hours of tinkering. I've done traditional martially-oriented rope dart tech - shots and empty knots - but it isn't what has been capturing my attention recently. :-)
That was truly wonderful in every way. I've seen plenty of rope dart. I haven't seen it like this before, though. And that's saying a lot for an art that is on the order of 2,400 years old.
"sorry I went off camera for about twenty seconds because I'm dumb." Nooooo you're not. It's so easy to get lost in the flow you forget about everything even that you're filming.
>.> I... do not have the patience for tutorials, goodness knows I did try to put some together. Part of this is that I myself learn best from just watching other people's flow (Tiana's hoop videos are my absolute favorite examples of what I learn best from) so my immediate inclination is to make the things I most enjoy seeing from others. I do teach at festivals, though, and there's a cropped version of the FD workshop I did; youtube won't let me link, but search "rope dart" and "fire drums".
Aw, thank you! This is a practice log about four years into my own journey. It's interesting to look back and reflect on it now! The song is "Medicine", by Daughter, remixed by Sound Remedy.
Your flow is so fluid, and your soul is so connected to your dart. 💚 I know others have said it, that your flow is very unique for rope dart but was it your first flow prop? My first was a hoop and it feels like you just get to a point with your prop where it's so familiar you aren't intentionally thinking about moves in your head, you just know what works naturally, even of you haven't seen it done before. I feel like that is how you are with your dart, spontaneous.
Delaney Hall That is very thoughtful, thank you for noticing. Yes, dart was my first flow prop. I’ve branched out so much since then - and you’ll likely notice a lot of my movements are very informed by hoop! - but this is the prop I keep coming back to. What I do is rarely conscious, unless I’m intentionally drilling something specific. This is freeform dance, which is my own highest ideal.
This is such a cool video!! I just discovered all of this stuff :) someone told me about flowtoys.com, and I was looking at flow darts, than I found your video :) This looks so fun!! Did you learn just by watching other people and than trying? or did someone teach you? Also, what song did you use for this video?
haha! when i say mean, its kiwi slang. Mean=Awesome! And I think it matters not about if its martial arts based form, Its the passion behind it.Keep doing what you love! :)
Dude u r sick rope dart. Ive been working on rolling drAgon realses pearl but uve made me think about the '360' plane so much more. Keep it up will sub if u do it on fire ^_^
This is fantastic, your flow is incredible! Your transitions and the way you seem to lose yourself in the music is absolutely beautiful! Great Work! What song is playing?
I just started doing martial-type rope dart/chain whip about a month ago, and your videos never fail to inspire me. My dart game is way more stiff than this tho xD How long did it take you to get this good? (I ask on a four year old video lol)
Well, I'm replying on a three year comment, so there you go! This video was posted after about four years of practice. I've come a long ways since then - consistency is the biggest thing! I hope you've been able to practice in the years since you posted this.
@@dresdenbluefire Off and on. I’m hoping to pick it back up soon, because it’s just such a great way to _feel alive._ Since you noticed me, I just want to say thank you for inspiring me to get started with what I had c:
I'm not interested in that style, TBH; I can do the martial work but it doesn't interest me. :-) Thanks for the thought, though. Frank Hatsis is my default person I tend to suggest to people interested in a martial style, but Fazio is pretty excellent as well.
