J&K Engines joins us today to talk about building Powerstrokes and overcoming challenges each engine provides. What’s needed for a stout 6.0? How does that differ from a 6.4? Do 7.3’s need a lot of help at higher power levels? What breaks on a 6.7L Powerstroke?

@@estebanjuarez2779 mines all stock but I highly recommend you get a 6.7 over the 6.4, the cost of maintenance is high keeping it on the road...

@@ironjohn5914 than you very much Yeah I’m new to the power stroke and heads that the 6.4 requires cab removal … the 6.7s price point is my limiting factor… looking at two other 6.0 a dually and a single… honestly just need it to move my travel trailer around a few times a month

Have owned a 7.3 and two 6 liters before I got into my 6.4 The 7.3 was cheap and easy to fix, always started but was a chore just driving the thing around town. Love the 6.0h, hard to beat a 6 speed single cab with a 10 blade that you can hear from the next town over. But man the look, sound and comfort of a clean lariat/king ranch 6.4 thats straight piped is all I need, when she blows I will gladly put another motor before going to a 6.7 and thats no diss on the 6.7, if im pullin a trailer Ill take the 6.7 all day….i would never trust my 09 on long trips or with big weight behind it🙄

Why do you have a diesel truck if you’re not towing anything?

I personally own a 6.4 its my favorite platform. It has the tech comparable to the 6.7s and the ease of working on a 6.0 combined. Heres the damn truth. 6.4s had no more problems than the similar year Dmax, and cummins. Mahle cheaped out on casting process. ( seriously im not kidding, look it up ) all of them cracked pistons. I personally put 15k$ into my 6.4 and blue printed the motor completely. Even redesigned the cooling system and oil system. My truck runs 1200whp and gets 16mpg city 22mpg hwy at 80mph with a 8in lift.

I quit counting miles after my odometer quit working about 15 years ago on my 1990 f350 with the 7.3 non turbo. It had 300 k before I bought it and the motor started smoking right after I got it. The cylinders had pin holes. A shop in Evansville In. rebuilt it, re-sleeved and normal parts replaced. That was 25 years ago... Daily driver up until a few years ago. I estimate the new rebuild has 600k +or- on it and close to a million miles on the truck. Normal maintenance is all I have done. If I had to pick a bullet proof engine it would be the 7.3 International. It don't have rpm range or turbo, but it will work hard forever with oil changes and normal maintenance.

The new 6.7 needs to have an oil change every 3k miles. And more than that and They have oil dilution. Don’t change that oil and you’ll potentially be replacing your fuel system.

I always hated the 6.0, now it's probably my favorite. I've had 12v&24v 5.9 6.7 cummins, lb7 lbz which I still own, lmm. I love them all but I have a bulletproof 6.0 which might be my favorite. Also have a 14 6.7 powerstroke which I also like. I'm down on the 6.4 though I'll never own one of them

Put the 6.7 in a 69 ford no emissions with a manual trans 4x4 or better yet put a 5.9 12 valve in that truck would be so cool .

If you don't need the extra torque of the 6.7 then go with 6.0, do as suggested, don't go half ass, it will reward you over time

@Darren Occhiuzzo I paid 10k for my 05' 6.0 2 years ago and I had a new water pump, oil cooler, it already had exhaust on it. I believe it had a warranty engine put in earlier in its life when it was a fleet truck in VA somewhere. In my opinion a non Def model year is better.

Great video. I have a couple of questions I was hurt two and a half years ago and can no longer go back to my line of work so I'm needing a company truck I might have to pull something like a trailer at some point in time I've always loved the idea of having a diesel truck diesel truck I come from the thought process that I'd rather have the power and not need it then to not have it need it are there any suggestions you could give me I'm looking at a budget of around 20 to 25,000 any help I would really appreciate. Plus the fact that I'm going to be using it as a daily driver I was concerned about gas mileage or do you think a gas pickup would be better for me wholesale what kind of mileage should I be looking at Max maximum gas mileage or diesel mileage for that price range
@drkies

A 6.0 will give you all the power you need and gets about 16mpg. Problem with the 6.4 is that it isn't really supported. Lots of people like them but few shops like to work on them. 6.7 has 65 sensors in it. Wait till those fail.

I hate V8 diesels. I have owned 12V, 24valve, multiple 7.3 IDI's, and the turbo also the 7.3 power-stroke's, I have only owned I think 1 or 2 6.0's, and 3 or 4 6.4L power-stroke's. Never a 6.7 PS. I prefer an in line cylinder diesel that is easy to maintain. The "maintenance"; well is your emissions systems working properly? You pretty much have to strip these things down to the basics to make them work for the long term, that was why the 6.9 and 7.3 lasted(just keep the oil topped off, they leaked enough for the other components), that would be "basic maintenance". I don't want too hire a F-c[ing computer engineer to reset my oil light. How many dang filters are they putting on these trucks now for "maintenance" 3 fuel filters 2 to 3 oil filters, coolant filters, and then they have to add a bunch of radiators to cool the systems because it is so venerable because they run so much oil because it has to be extra clean and filtered and cooled, and sometimes we have to burn more fuel to clean out the dirty fueled exhaust, and we get terrible fuel mileage. At what point do you just be like, "at what expense is this worth"?

Here’s the biggest weak point, THEY ARE A V8! Dumbest idea amongst light duty diesel trucks and not sure why ford and Gm continue to shoe horning them junkers in a engine compartment!

YOU OBVIOUSLY DONT KNOW MUCH. THERE ARE 10 S. OF MILLIONS OF V 8 DIESEL ON THE ROAD STILL. MANY HAVE NEVER BEEN REBUILT. EVEN CUMMINGS HAS LOT OF PROBLEMS.. IF YOU COMPARE ALL THINGS TO AN OLD STOCK 12V, THATS A DIFFERENT CHAPTER
