From WWOR-TV 9 in New York Kudos to the Atlanta Braves fans who spent the night at the ballpark. Their reward was the scheduled postgame 4th of July fireworks show at 4:30AM, less than an hour before dawn.
That's what I love about baseball. More than any other team sport, anything - and in this case, virtually everything - can happen. This game made for one of the all-time great box scores.⚾
That's the most excited I ever heard Ralph. I grew up on Ralph, Lindsey Nelson and Bob Murphy, the greatest broadcasting team ever. GOd bless them all ❤❤❤
I saw this live on TV. I remember it was the 4th of July and a lot of fans were left because they were going to have fireworks after the game. Also, Camp had to bat because the Braves ran out of pinch hitters.
I have to live with the fact that 17 year old me went to bed after Hojo's homer in the 13th. Probably the only iconic 1980s Mets moment I didn't see live.
Try this, as a Mets fan since 1969, I shut off game 6 of the 1986 world series after the Red Sox took their 5-3 lead in the top of the 11th inning. didn't find out Mets won until next day!
The funniest part of this video is that the title says "7/5/1985," which it only does because this was around 3 a.m. that morning. The game actually started six hours earlier.
You're right. Unless it gets to an extreme moment when a team runs out of players and has no choice but to let the pitcher hit. Considering all the lefty/righty matchups managers do it might be a little more likely, but nothing like this.
@michaelholman5645 - I’ve never liked the DH but there were NL teams who’s minor league teams played in leagues that used the DH and it led to pitchers not even knowing how to bunt, let alone make contact at all. So the majors sealed their own fate with regard to the DH.
I watched that entire game including the rain delays on WOR-TV. What a great game that was. Ron Darling finished the game. Keith Hernandez hit for the cycle that game. Fulton County Stadium was extremely wet that night. That was the start of a four game set for the Mets against the Braves. That game will always stand out as one of the best games I have ever seen.
I was 13 years old when that game happened. As a Braves fan living in Arkansas, I watched the whole game on TBS. I remember screaming after Camp hit that homer, only to find out it work my father up, who was pissed that I was still watching tv at 3am in the morning. I told him what happened and he didnt want to hear of it.
@@paullentz1972 - parents haven't changed much through the years. But that was an amazing game. You being a Braves fan I am sure were upset being on the wrong side of the game. But it was an iconic game. Considering how bad the Braves were in 1985, it was an impressive game. And from 1991 to today your team has been great.
John Sterling with the call. It's hit to deep left field, it could be gone, the ball is off the outfield fence, Camp is taking his time getting to second, but he's in safe for a stand-up double. Huh? What? Are you sure? That ball is outta here.......
I am trying to find an after the game/fireworks interview where a lady was going insane because she thought they were "BOMB'IN ATLANTA". Can anyone help me out?
There were 2 rain delays of 91 and 40 minutes as well. The game ended at 4:40 AM, less than an hour before dawn. And if that wasn’t enough, at 5AM they set off the 4th of July fireworks anyway.
The Mets won 16-13 in 19 innings. Including two rain delays, the game finally ended a 4AM. There were supposed to be a 4th of July fireworks show after the game, but instead of postponing them they went along and set them off anyway. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@joshs4594 Camp came up with the bases loaded and 2 outs again in the bottom of the 19th...and struke out to end the game. If Camp had hit a grand slam there, that indeed would have been the nuttiest thing ever to happen in MLB.
@@joshs4594 Yep. The people that lived in homes near the ballpark were not happy. Well, they don't have to worry about that any more since the Braves now play in the sticks
@@joshs4594 And then police dispatch was inundated with calls from people who were woken up by the fireworks and thought the Russians were attacking Atlanta ...
