jeez, these kids are crazy! when I was 7-8 I think the most challenging drill we had to do was skating around the circles forward and backward with the puck, and half of us couldn't do it... I wish I had training like this video. holy cow.

One thing I would like to see more emphasis on in Russian hockey is a return to a strong team passing game. Need more Soviet style. Not many coached teaching this anymore. I follow Russian hockey close for many years now.
@IlyaSmirnov1980
@IlyaSmirnov1980 6 лет назад
Russian style has always been based on the high level of player technology. Hockey in North America is based on a power struggle (this is facilitated by small grounds). However, you can quickly learn the power struggle, but if you have not been given technical skills in childhood, you will never become a master of dribbling. Therefore, Russian hockey players adapt perfectly in North America, having a high level of technical skill, they quickly learn to fight power and that is why many Russian hockey players immediately become leaders and hockey stars in North America. On a small platform, all these technical elements look more spectacular than on a large one. When there was a shutout in the NHL, many hockey players went to play in the Continental Hockey League in Russia, not a single American and Canadian could not become really bright players in the Continental Hockey League. A large area and a large number of players with high technical skills made power hockey pale and not interesting. Even very mediocre hockey players from Russia, possessing a high level of technical skill, quickly learned to move away from power techniques on a large site, and technical skill helped them in this. If you want a lot of power techniques, then this is North America hockey. if you want a lot of technical elements, dribbling is in Russia.
@akteon1979
@akteon1979 5 лет назад
Agree. Team Russia coached by Vyacheslav Bykov was the last best iteration of Soviet-style hockey. Miss this game style so much!

As a Russian I have to say these kiddos have tons of a talent,but lets not forget mental part of the hockey as well. You can be as talented as Ovie,but be mentally unstable and break at some point and let your team down,especially when you are between 14 and 20 years old. Just as an example past 2020 WJHC where Russia was leading 3-1 and then all of the sudden quickly went "chill mode" way to early,as a result, 4-3 and Canada claimed the gold. I`m playing hockey myself and I know what I`m talking about. Cheers to all hockey fans around the Globe.

Cool stuff. Yet, not one of these kids will ever break Wayne Gretzky’s records, or even go to the NHL. Wayne Gretsky grew up playing on ponds and on home made ice and his dad would throw down a couple of obstacles here and there, that’s it! And look what he became. It’s great to practice all this stuff, but greatness come from within, some have it and some don’t, regardless of having kids do all this stuff.

If Wayne Gretzky played nowadays he would spend his whole career in AHL. It's ridiculous to compare hockey now and back then. Two completely different sports.

There is a reason why best players in the world only come from a few specific countries. And this reason is not just some mythical greatness that comes from within, it's about how good the youth coaches are and how good is the youth program in general . Ofc nobody will become one of the best if he doesn't have the talent for it, but I very much doubt that without great hockey schools any country would produce great juniors on regular basis.

You are an ignorant idiot. Wayne is Great, that for sure, but talent means crap if you don't put extra effort and hard work. And he was working his ass off. Don't compare hockey from 70 - 90is to today hockey. What you knew 5 years ago is not enough today........ask any pro hockey player.
