LAUNCHING 2021! I've heard from SO many amazing people who want to make an impact in their communities by starting a nonprofit AND find a way to do it Full Time! I'll be launching the Founder to Full-Time Academy soon, which will include online training, materials, and support for folks starting up. Glad I've come across your chanel. I run a non profit and have started many different projects most of which are now self sustaining now. I look forward to seeing more of your videos and learning from some of your experiences.
Can you do a video on Aspiration credit service (credit card that divests from fossil fuels) and other finance orgs or systemic change softwares that can be utilized?
I like number 5 as that might be what I need to consider. You mentioned fundraising for that single event which is where I have concern. Will I bear all the tax burdens if I were to do fundraising for equipment necessary for my cleanup? There is a nonprofit that I may be able to work with under their status, but what happens to the equipment once we're done cleaning up the harbor? I'm talking two or three years down the road.
Tax burden - potentially, yes. So, if you can find an existing nonprofit with existing 501c3 status to act as your fiscal agent for the project, that would protect you from that.
@@AmberMelanieSmith Thank you for the speedy reply. Your willingness to share your knowledge is wonderful. Without it, I may have jumped into the wrong thing. I'm glad you have more videos from which to learn from.
I am learning so much from your channel. Thank you so much. Can you clarify and give info about sole membership non profits in a video? Is this just written in the bylaws ?
Hey there! I don't recommend that structure as it has some ethical issues and can be less effective / prevent true community representation (which nonprofits should have!), but here is a helpful article that explains both sides: www.501c3.org/protecting-your-dream-starting-a-sole-member-nonprofit/
@@AmberMelanieSmith Thank you. Yep that’s the article I read too. I’m learning about the pros and cons. I understand why someone who puts all their heart and soul into it as a founder would choose it, but I’m working on building my board and bylaws , so I have a lot to learn . Thank you again.
@@AishaLaDon 100%! It's rough out there for founders :) I think a balance is good - on the one side, the founder works their butt off - but on the flip side, what if the founder is doing more harm than good? In those cases the community being served has to be protected - I think that's what the conflict of interest policy is about at its core.
thanks for posting this question....i am also starting to do my research on this topic for my community and trying to understand all aspects of options available to support a community.....
thanks for this video...very helpful...especially when youre just trying to understand all options and what direction to go in....philanthropy would be ideal ....but that is unlikely at the moment...perhaps future goal would be to do that.....are you able to do a video with some visual presentation between a non-profit vs business ...its pros and cons....create a hypothetical of non-profit and a business with similar/same goals....and how each one would look like? just to get a better sense for the difference between both?
Hey there! Yes, it can feel overwhelming sometimes for sure. I actually do have a video comparing for-profit vs. nonprofit - I hope this helps answer your questions: Starting a Nonprofit vs For-Profit Business (Pros and Cons) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nf_f-BNu3D8.html
