Wow! This video saved my life. I am recording an excellent pianist that always plays with a huge dynamic range which, of course, is really hard to get translated to various media without compression or EQ artifacts. Though I don't like the idea of having to tamp down the dynamic range of her work, I really don't have much choice - especially if much of her music is going to be streamed over cell phones. It's either tamp down the range of midi velocities and have no compression artifacts or tamp down the audio range with compression and suffer the artifacts. I'll choose the former. Thanks for the vid Mike.

Some very useful tips here, Mikael. I frequenly struggle with MIDI editing but the biggest problems is that the screen doesn't update when I make changes. I can move a note forward or backwards with the arrow keys or delete a note and nothing happens. Do you have a fix for this?

Wonder if the same values to humanize an instrument like a Cello, or Violin, given by the DAW would fit in an electric guitar MIDI line, obviously keeping in mind the guitar techniques, such as; Pal-mute, slides, hammer-on & pull-off, bends, tapping and all the articulations related to play a real guitar. Would I have fix it in that case?... It's more!, if you got a video tutorial just explaining something concerning that, I'd appreciate... Very good job!

Hello there! How can I set different midi velocity touch response in logic ? I do not want to press hard the keys. I do not care about the dynamics (the harder you press louder the notes sound) I want the notes to be always loud as soon as I press. When I use my keyboard's internal sounds I hear the sound as soon as I play the keys because I have changed the velocity response on the keyboard to fast response, but I do not like the sounds of my keyboard, I want to play the sounds of logic, but is killing my fingers, I get tired because I have to press hard on the midi keyboard but I cannot play hard if I want to play a fast piece. Please help me Genius.

Hello Mikael! Thanks for the video! Regarding #2, Velocity Ramp. If I have multiple notes in a single part, like a piano part, or a polyphonic violin part, using the pencil tool like you said replaces all the velocities and unifies them into one linear line. It doesn't maintain the relative velocities like you are demonstrating here. Is there a setting I need to change? Thanks!
@NHockerJazz
@NHockerJazz 4 года назад
Nevermind! I was using the pencil tool, I didn't realize the difference between pencil and pen. Although I don't see the pen tool as an option when I press T. By holding command I get the velocity ramp like you showed.

Thanks Mike! I have a question regards to the bar numbers in logic. Is bar number 1 always bar number 1 in Logic ? (In DP is possible to have bar number 1 anywhere). Now imagine you want to have a free click of 8 bars; in logic it is possible to have maximum 8 bars before the first bar, but this is not possible to be recorded as MIDI or i am not right?
@mikaelbaggstrom
@mikaelbaggstrom 5 лет назад
You are very welcome Sina, I am glad you found my tips helpful. Regarding your question, you can in fact move the initial project start to be before bar 1, so technically you could add 8 bars before bar 1. Just hover your mouse on the top left of the timeline, and then drag. I'm not sure that is exactly what you want to do, but that's the only thing I can think of at least. Hope it helps. :) Sincerely, Mike

Oh my goodness!! This is such a blessing. It had become quite hard to play my MPK249 because some of the notes (no matter how soft I played them) would have a higher velocity than normal. The Velocity Processor in the MIDI FX completely fixed that issue IMMEDIATELY. And it was nice to know that I did not need to have any MIDI notes recorded before it worked. PERFECT! Thanks! Now, I will check out the other 6 tips. LOL!

Hi. For some reason when I change the velocity, it seems to have no effect on the audio. I see the colors change from purple to red on the MIDI display, but I can hear no difference in the *sound* itself, when I play the music. Some people online have said that this may be due to using a 3rd party plugin. I use Spitfire audio. Does anyone have a solution to this problem or any tips? Has anyone had any similar experiences?

I know it's been awhile since you posted this but it just proved very useful to me for the Velocity Processor which made the inexpensive 88 key "semi weighted" keyboard into a much more lively and interesting keyboard to play - it was just impossible to get the dynamics I wanted. It's still not weighted but now it's usable. Thank you.

How do make a Lane which will display all the note velocities in a track or region for easier velocity editing and note-by-note velocity editing too. I already have all the notes and they each have their own velocities. Maybe using Data Byte 2 would help in this but that doesn't show up in the Convert Window. Thanks

trick 2 doesn't work the way as described. With the pencil tool line drawn, all velocity line up in a vector line. It does the same thing as the velocity tool.

Hello ! How can i just get down the higher notes velocity of my Midi keyboard ? I love to play a pipe organ bank, very realistic but unfortunately the higher notes are too loud rather than the lowest notes ! Actually i need to play on my keyboard ditectly and i need the good velocity setting to fix it in order to have the good sound directly when i play on, is it possible ?
