If the waiter brought the bill over while I'm still eating I'd be furious. I'd tut and complain to the others I'm eating with and then smile at the server in a typical passive aggressive manner and never return to the establishment and being sure to tell everyone about how rude the staff were

Give me my food then go away !! If I want something I'll ask you ! If you bring me the bill while I'm still eating, what happens if someone wants to order something else during the meal !? Knives and forks are NOT utensils ! They are CUTLERY ! Talking about religion/politics is a no no ! It can start wars !! Seat plans on planes are there for a reason ! In case of an accident the staff need to know who was sitting in which seat !

Britain is a secular country for good reason. The Church has been too political in the past, too powerful. we’ve had too many persecutions between Protestant and catholic communities. It’s an unwritten rule that we do not talk about religion or politics in the company of people we don’t know.

Kalyn... They are not "utensils" ... The knives and forks / spoons are _cutlery_. The utensils are the items used in cooking / preparing meals. JT (JT Reacts) from Kentucky, is _very_ loud and he is iften told he is loud by his followers / subscribers and he _is_very_loud_ but he doesn't think he is! Americans are abrupt, loud and iften seem rude. Some do, some don't. There are Brits who act likewise, but generally speaking, we Brits prefer quitely-spoken and polite people. Re religion. It wouldnt offend me because I would just tell anyone who asked me about religion, or church, etc, that I am an atheist, and if they pushed for further information, I would likely be quite explicit in explaining my viewpoint in the matter.

Not rude so much as we are just not so obsessed with it . For a politician to start banging on about God would be seen as very odd behaviour indeed .

You show the iving room bathroom incase they need it . Upstairs is off limits unless that’s where the loo is . Then you would close your bedroom doors

You realise that your home is small in the U.K. when you invite family over for Christmas Dinner. 😂

"Ohh no, you have it" is British English for "I'm having this! It's mine". Because the correct and polite thing is for the other person to refuse to take it. "ohh not at all. Please, you take it". By being the one to offer first you have already indicated that you have taken ownership of the item, because you can't offer something you don't already have. Should the other person actually take the item, that would be considered as rude if not more rude than not being offered it in the first place. Brits just have a politer way of saying things. We live, cramped together on a small island its just a veneer that evolved so we don't go mad.

go violent you mean. manners keeps down the cost of replacing blood soaked carpets. when you dig down we're not all that civilised really.

I dont fly, but apparently changing seats on a olane without asking a flight attendant permission first, uts considered unwise as _in case of an accident_ your position is necessary for identification purposes. It's logical therefore to let the flight attendants know if you want to change seats for any reason, and not cause a panic amongst those trained in a certain way to find you not sitting where you're meant to be. I therefore agree with Kalyn's British friend, and nit with Kalyn re the plane seats issue. There are _sensible_ reasons for such "rules".

thats interesting because i remember as a kid four decades ago people thinking americans were even more polite than us. when and how did it change?

Not all Brits spend time with friends outside the home, in Wales it's most likely done at home, but the only time we would show guests around if they haven't been to your home before especially if the home is new, other than that you don't need to show friends around your home to make them feel at home it's not necessary.

I'm not sure about the home tour one. I suppose we don't do it as a matter of course but I'm always interested to see someone's pad & might even ask for a loo around (not in their underwear drawers) but it does very much depend on my relationship with that person, how well I know them etc... I probably wouldn't show someone around unless they expressed an interest, apart from my garden, which I would almost always show off as I AM proud of how beautiful it is. When it comes to the cheque coming with the meal, I actually like that idea. You have time to check it over & plan how to pay it/divide it up. When the cheque comes at the end of a meal, suddenly everyone becomes an accountant. I find that very uncomfortable & either offer to pay or leave my credit card & go for a vape. If I'm going out for a meal I'm not worrying about paying the least amount possible. If I'm broke I'll stay home! The loudness varies from city to city & group to group. We do tend to be a bit more reserved than Americans but the UK has it's fair share of loud people. Cardiff lads out for a beer are EXTREMELY loud. I think most people in the UK assume that other people are atheists unless they state otherwise (or are wearing a symbol or dress denoting their faith). I don't think we've a very religious country nowadays & I know very few Christians. The queueing thing is 100% true. It's the cornerstone of our civilization! ;)

I think I'm in the place I'll live until I die, I show guests round because I've gone pretty far out on decoration of rooms and I'm kinda proud and definitely want house guests to know where stuff is and feel comfortable - if you're welcome in my house, treat it like your own and I'll definitely show you where the cleaning stuff is ;) - don't panic if you spill something, but don't expect ME to clean it up 🤣 If I'm eating, I'm taking my time - my 1st memories are stuff like family meals, talking and all that kinda stuff. Do Americans rush through family meals? It seems weird to me psychologically that if you're paying for a meal you don't take your time about it? When I was there - I know how fast food works + wouldn't want to sit somewhere like that for a long time on plastic seats, so would ask locals - usually older folk, "where's nice for a proper-restaurant" and clearly state NOT fast food, but somewhere to sit and be comfy - so didn't really go anywhere frantic-busy and the staff would bring the bill + I'd pay when ready, order more stuff if I wanted more (portion control lol) and go when ready. Didn't even occur to me that the bill-thing meant EAT+LEAVE. If anything, I might have thought people would not pay and run after food.

When the London Christmas and New Year Sales were a really big thing in the UK, all queuing rules were completely ignored. When the stores doors were open people just surged in.

Talking about religion is fine here, but not the way Americans do it. We have religious freedom here and that means you cannot assume that everyone you meet is either a Christian or an Atheist. Above all, it's considered rude to try yo convert others to your religion. Ask someone what they believe and ask what that entails and nobody will object but if you ask if they have found Jesus, you will get sarcasm or anger, even from Christians. I am a Christian druid and UK Christians are mostly fine with that (the local church also has Christian witches) but American Christians have a problem with it. Some also object to my sister being a Methodist preacher.

If you know a neighbouring family for a couple of decades, you may get invited into their garden, if they really, really like you. The house is usually reserved for their family.

It's really annoying when servers keep asking you "Are you finished with that?" etc, as it is seen as them trying to hassle you to finish and leave.

In my experience ‘house tours’ aren’t unheard of in the UK but are something that is only done with the people you’re closest to and likely only when you’ve not long moved in or have done some redecorating (but it’ll only be the redecorated areas that are shown…almost like some sort of software update). Though generally speaking we are quieter spoken in the UK than those in the US, you will find that if you visit a pub in the evening, the volume gets higher the more drinks are had. As someone who has often been told they speak quite quietly, I tend to have quite a sore throat after an evening in the pub. As someone who grew up in West Central Scotland, I’d agree to an extent that there isn’t a great deal of direct discussion about religion because everyone’s relationships with their God is private…as most intimate relationships are (and you don’t get much more intimate than sharing the content of your soul) BUT there will be indirect questioning to determine the religion you were brought up in (ie asking what school someone went to, is an easy way finding out whether or not someone is Catholic) which can in some particularly sectarian sections of society, can be a very big deal. But things like that are about bigotry and almost have nothing to do with actual religion itself but it’s highly improbable that someone other than a Minister or Priest is going to want to talk theology with you…well, maybe some very close members of your family. I personally would describe myself as agnostic but my Mum had a strong but quiet faith and my Dad’s faith seems to have grown in thirty odd years since she died. He will often ask my siblings and I about what we believe our Mum will look like when he meets her again and if they’ll recognise each other (I answer that I think we will look different to everyone as what we’ll see is how we most remember that person), he will also often question the types of discussions that they may have when reunited. But discussing the possible afterlife seems to have become more of an occasional comfort for our dementia suffering, around 80 year old Dad, more than some sort of presumption of character or deep theological dissection.

My "house tour" ... * I open front door. *Take guests up the stairs. * I then say something along the lines of "through the door on the right is the living room, followed by the kitchen and toilet room. Bathroom straight ahead of you (at top of stairs), bedrooms to the left"

I would have thought it was obvious. Kalyn is expressing views as an American about UK/US cultures, and Neal is responding to them as another American. They are both interested in the differences. I hope you have expressed your feelings on Kalyn's channel, where she may get things wrong, but surely that's the point: perceptions of how we and 'they' live. It's interesting how many times we express, even bray, a stereotypical negative view of Americans, even though we might not have personally met them or visited their country. Robert, uk.

The seats on a plane thing is helpful in the case of a crash. Need to let the flight attendants make a note that the seating arrangements don't match the boarding list, both for evacuating the plane and for identifying remains.
