This Leica M-Mount 35mm f2 lens from 7 Artisans is a lovely little wide angle for Leica rangefinders will also mount to all mirrorless cameras (with an adaptor) and is a very nice addition to any photographer's kit.
With a very short focus throw and a very high quality feel, it makes beautiful images and has outstanding background blur characteristics. The focussing tab means you can focus with one finger and it's very quick to focus on the street, giving you the best chance of catching the shot!
I've often said that F2 is all you need, and this lens really makes that clear. Small, light and portable, very nicely made and with fantastic images quality, if you're looking for a really nice F2 lens that won't break the bank, this one is definitely worth a look!

Nigel, yesterday, the last day of 22, I decided to make another step in my photography self education. By taking notes on settings and such, I learned that all my old lenses are or can be sharper than my Canon L kit lens. The key is in the distance! Each of my 24 to 300mm lenses seem to have a similar working distance where focus is so sharp that you can see "x". For me, I focused experimentally on the stitching of my shirt. If I could see it by zooming in on my preview, then the focus was tack sharp. I found that most of my lenses were that sharp if I stood around 3 to 6ft from my subject. Subsequently, this year's end party, I took some of the sharpest and blurriest/bokeh-est pictures I have taken. The Pancolar 50mm f1.8 finally showed me it's true colors. It did such an amazing job. I used it at f1.2 and thanks to you I ventured into its sharpness at other apertures including f8. Surprisingly my Takumar f3.5 showed me a new face at f8. At around 4ft from the subject it was crazy sharp and not just sharp, but it had this very distinct vibration-like sharpness. The images almost look like there aren't enough pixels in my Canon 6D to show the resolution of the lens. Also, I had been using my 6D at high ISO with no flash. I purchased several broken speedlites, fixed them and used them last night. On my previous educational moment, I learned how awesome colors rendered using flash. It was amazing. I had one speedlite on a 8ft pole with a diy 3D printed diffuser, and another speedlite on camera bouncing off the ceiling. For the first time, I guided and posed people, I changed settings and adjusted, rearranged. Anyway, I'm really impressed at the performance of my vintage lenses. Now I understand a little more.

I've been using this lens for about a month now. I post photos in various Leica groups and no one knows the difference. So apparently it's good enough ha. Handling is great. Looks good on M bodies. Bit of flare, bit of distortion, hell of a bargain.

Always enjoy watching your videos. Such a nice-looking lens. For 35mm f/2, I have the Yongnuo 35mm f/2 for Canon EFS on my Sony A7ii with the E-F autofocus adapter.

I have their older 35mm f2 Sony-fit lens which I used on my APS-C Sony A6000, so it became a 52.5mm. Great lens and I shot mostly at f5.6 or f8 on holiday and found it very sharp. They make lovely lenses and they are very affordable compared to the big brand names.

Nice video and very nice pictures, Nigel! I think 35mm f2.0 is a sweet-spot. At least two of my favourite lenses are the Canon FD 35mm f2.0, and the Nikkor 35mm f2.0, in that order, I might add. The older Canon FL 35mm f2.5 is a really nice lens too.

Nigel, Long time viewer, a question I have seen your reviews on the following 2 lenses, which one would you say is the better and why. Carl Zeiss Jena DDR 35mm f2.4 Flektogon or Konica Hexanon 40mm f1.8. I have and love the latter but always looking at others, thanks.

Always a relaxing time..I keep thinking that wall behind you needs one of your shots..But nothing's free in Lens Land. Then there's the mounting and framing...

That wall needs a little attention I'm afraid, more in the line of wallpaper than lenses! Ah well, someday soon!

Nigel I have 35mm 2.4 autofocus lens already I find myself using it more lately. I also have Takumar 35mm3.5 manuel lens I occasionally use

I always enjoy autofocus when I use it - but it's always nice to come back to a simple, manual focus classic!

The Takumar 35mm 3.5 is so very cheap in price, very small lens, clarity is so surprising and the rendering is not known because most do not know the outstanding performance of this lens because it looks so unassuming. Most people would not even consider shooting a 35mm 3.5 lens because they would assume that it is not a quality rendering lens…!!!

Nice video as always. But I am wondering, seems you always comment on color produced by a lens. With all the variable settings on modern cameras, how do you determine what colors the lens is actually contributing to the image?
@zenography7923
@zenography7923 Год назад
I shoot all lenses with the same camera settings, so any variation in image characteristics, colour for example, shows up very clearly.

I am a big fan of your videos and your photography. You inspire me to start a collection of vintage lenses for my Sigma fp L. One tiny bit of constructive criticism is that you need to put some consideration into your Vlogging set up as if it was one of your beautiful photographs. The information in this video is fantastic but the lighting on your face is much to harsh.

Thank you for this video! Actually, this 7artisans 35mm/F2 lens has no Sonnar formula at all. I found the technical drawing in the "7artisans shop on Amazon". It doesn't include the cemented group of three lenses that is the heart of every Sonnar lens.

Hi Nigel, it's way sad and some kind of politics that true issues about the new 7A 35/F2 are being deleted here...without any comment from your side. I've found this channel interesting before.... greetings.

Oh boy, do I have a baaaaaad copy😢😢😢 Your pictures look exactly, what I hoped, searching and finding other reviews round here. My pictures are soft and show bad ghosting and fringing in the corners, even at Aps-s. Is anyone else unfortunate with his/ her copy? I could really enjoy your top video even more if I was able to share your findings😢

It looks as if sample variation is still alive and kicking, even in these days of computer controlled production, and CNC machining.

@@petersnow389 Yes, that´s how it looks. Do you know, if there is any chance to optimize it, when you have a lens tool (to remove optical elements that is)?

@@stephanpaier9887 does your camera body allow for focus calibration? Perhaps some adjustment is needed? I have run into this with a very expensive lens on a pro body and the results after calibration were stunning. sharp as can be after the calibration.

Whatever the optical qualities of the lense may be, it's certainly up for winning a lemmon for design. The small front element almost vanishing in the fat barrel's plate is a design choice beyond belief and excuse. Just awful. I shouldn't dare stepping out on the street with such a contraption. Brave of you that you did ;-)
@zenography7923
@zenography7923 Год назад
I think a recessed front element is a good design feature - it protects the glass, and can help to keep stray light rays from causing flare. No bravery required!
